It was a statement that only a woman could make.

The question isn't is that an impact driver, the question is why do you not also have air powered hand drills, impact drivers and ratchets

Should you not have a pillar drill?

a lathe?

a chop saw?

band saw?

bench grinder?

angle grinder?

multi master?

electric plane?

circular saw?

router?

.................................
We have all the above and some. Note the we as my wife can use them all as well.

This post and the show us your toys, got me thinking what tools are in the garage.

I shall never question why any man in my life has need of so much. Because, if I do I open myself to his questioning mine.
Want more drills darling? Sure.. you go right ahead... I'm off to catalogue my collection of matching accessories coz I'm certain I noticed a gap in colour. And while I'm at it I might sort my hair band drawer.

And, much as it pains me to say it, the toolkit gifted to me 10 years ago is still a valued possession. I don't half get cross if something goes missing from it. Unfortunately the "Manual of all things DIY" did not come with it, I'm a Heath Robinson kinda person. And not averse to taking a saw to a thing. But I usually get there eventually. So long as it's done and aesthetics don't matter.
Oh and, while we are on the subject, do any of you males realise just how sexy a man fixing stuff is? Eh Mrsambulancekidd ?

I find it sexy when I mention to my man that I would like something DIY ish doing and he makes it a priority to make me happy. Lovely man

The house we are hoping to buy comes with a large garage with built in cupboards and a workshop (fingers crossed, we were so close then lockdown). I swear if anyone asked Hubby about the house he can’t answer the question but has planned where all his vehicles and tools are going.

The same could be said for screwdrivers. I have 9 full sets plus odds and ends collected through the years. A total of 94 individual tools. Then there are 1/4 inch bits. I'm not in the trade, I drive cars around a closed site for a living. As for drills I only have 3.

Yebbut, does he do the DIY jobs afterwards?

Well, in my collection I have 2 18 volt cordless drills, a screwdriver, and an 18 volt sds drill. All the same make so you can swap batteries. I have a 110 volt angle drill and a diamond core drill.I have two circular saws a jigsaw and a multi tool. I think that’s about it. :giggle: :giggle::giggle:

He had better use them to shorten the list of jobs that need doing...…...;)

Obviously not as he is just playing soldiers with them putting them in rank and file and looking at them as if they are a work of art ( something that with your artistic background you should be able to understand) and see the beauty in a power tool.
Being a woman adaptation has been the key due to the lack of power tools even to the stage of putting flatback furniture together 35 years ago with a butter knife and a stiletto healed shoe.
Any yes before you ask it was still standing and in use 25 years later when I moved out and left it for the next couple as they liked so much. (no repairs required)

But saying that I have found my mind wandering towards the need for a bigger power drill than the small B&D that I have. I am aware that getting a second could lead to the beginning of an army of power tools

That’s what I say to my husband about my (many ?) handbags!!
I would not argue as I am sure they are an investment as my desires are I’m sure your husband is free to make his own investments ?

Well, I have been educated by this thread !! And I must say I have pity for all the menfolk that are displaying, nay, BRAGGING about the size of their Toolboxes !!!

You lot are like the American Army, defeat any foe with massive firepower overkill !!

Whereas, I am proud to relate, that we were trained in the the SAS style of maintenance. Improvise with what you have. If you take more than a 6" adjustable spanner and a terminal screwdriver to a job, ANY JOB, then your a WIMP that needs your Mammy to help you !!!

Why would you want chisels when you have a screwdriver? A hammer ? Pah, whats a spanner for ? Only a softy would want a mains tester when you can lick your finger and probe the connections.

So I am with MrsAmbulanceKidd, go minimalist chaps, rediscover your manly side and go retro with the tools. Start with anything made from flint and work forwards through the ages, it will do you good !!

Careful with that one many men make investments in the kitchen I purchased a new kenwood, brought a blender and desire a oven that produces steam to help the crust on bread. All gadgets are investments ? you have to show your other half and talk about the benefits. That is the art of making n investment your wife or husband comfortable with the purchase. ?

30 years ago I had an ex-boyfriend who bought me an iron for Christmas he is still living with his mother the last I heard :sneaky:

When I got my own home I decided to treat myself to a real Xmas tree.
cut 2 inches from trunk before placing in stand and water regularly the guy selling it said. Hm. Bread knife to the rescue. Did it cut through the trunk I hear you ask? Well yes indeedy.
did it ever cut a slice of bread again? Um. Define slice?
And yes, not a straight butter knife to my name. When my (now ex) husband moved in he said "why do all your knives have bent tips or tips missing?" Er. About that..

Improvision is fine but not a prooer

improvisation is fine but not if you want a proper job. Examples are: a broken carbon connector on a distributor cap was repaired by breaking a biro taking out the spring and using the metal push piece at the top of the pen to replace said carbon. The car did a a couple of hundred miles got us home but the rotor arm was wrecked.

Gaffer Tape and a peace of wood kicked off a farmers fence fixed a broken stay for another journey

neither are permanent fixes and comes under the innovative ‘SAS’ school of fixing things

Will keep I investing in my DeWalt kit and proper tools thank you. Always use a Proper tool for a proper job ??

I had had specific knives to use as scewdrivers (they are still with me one in the drawer one in the garage) and called upon when the screwdriver will not suffice

i daren't list the tools i have ... it would make me buy more ....

none of them are for technical jobs ie working on cars etc, they are all for building something or other ...

i see no-one has admitted having a paslode gun yet ...... great but dangerous bit of kit (i put a 95mm nail through the fleshy part of my thumb, removed it myself and stuck a plaster and anti septic on it and still have it ...)

Yes, I've got a Paslode - absolute god send for heavy woodworking, fencing, decking etc

And whilst I've never had an incident with mine, my joiner friend rebuilt his a few years back, left something off just to test it before fully assembling it, operated it and the resultant gas explosion took his eyebrows off!

As my dad said once, boys don't give up their toys, the toys just get bigger !
My ex used to say that unless she went shopping with me I wouldn't buy fashionable clothes, just larger size school uniforms.

Are you hoping for more tool porn from ambulancekidd?
I do have a pillar drill & a dremmel, I did have a Black & Decker Wizard crafting gun which I donated to Mrsambulancekidd a few months ago.
Now that was painful but, I can at least visit that wee gun from time to time however, it'd take a braver man than me to ask to borrow it!!:giggler:

Oh I nearly forgot my electric staple gun. :h::h:

The only difference between men & boys is the length of their trousers & the size of their toys! :blusher:

Okay, so who has got one of these bad boys or even knows what it is ? I suspect that tonyidle and chaser may well know and maybe even John Barrett
