Well beat this one Robert.
I have a selection of cordless drills out in my man cave, all in their cases.
I went shopping in TinaL's car once and found in the boot of it, two of my Bosch Drills with drill bits sticking out, one of which was a small masonry bit, which she had used at her allotments.
I gave her a bollocking for taking my drills and leaving them in full view inside a bucket in the back of her car, along with my drill bit set, and socket set which now has all the sockets in the wrong holes:swear:
She threw a wobbly back at me and said "Right!!I will never use you tools again, I promise"

When I used the car a few weeks later, I found the same situation had occurred,or at first I thought it had Bosch cordless drills everywhere, even a Ryobi battery multisaw with six inch blade sets for metal and wood!
She had gone out to Screwfix and bought her own set of drills, screws, pliers & wire cutters!
You wait it wont be long before she leaves one outside in a bucket, then we will see if they work underwater wont we:giggle:
PS: I asked what she had been using the small Masonry bit for?
She replied: Ah! you will be proud of me, you see I do watch when you do jobs, I used "That Small Drill bit as a pilot drill to make holes for the wood screws when I screwed the timber sides of my raised beds together so the wood didnt split":doh:

I feel deprived hearing about other people drills. I have an early Dewalt with two batteries, a corded Black & Decker with a metal case ( left by last house owners), an angle grinder, a Jig Saw, a Sander, two bench drills, a lathe and a milling machine.
I don’t do DIY on a voluntary basis only when my marriage rights are threatened with deaf and dumb breakfast to follow.
 
I am going to assume when a non tool lady says drills she means anything that looks like a drill with a rotating bit.

For most men the answer is 4.
1) A drill to hold drill bits
2) Another drill to hold a driver bit.
3) An impact driver (1/4")
4) An impact wrench (1/2")

Some men may need an additional SDS drill for making holes in concrete.

For the ladies who wonder why 1 and 2 are necessary and why you wouldn't just swap the bits as needed, here is the answer.
The lady in your life has asked you to put up some shelves, make a cabinet etc etc. This involves loads of holes and loads of screws.
Rather than drill a holes, swap the bit and drive the screw in then swap the bit back. You have a drill bit and a driver bit in each of 2 drills. This way you get the job done in half the time or less.

I am guessing then you would ask, why no just put the driver bit in the impact driver. Well you could but the impact driver doesn't have the fine control of a drill so you would end up with some screws buried deeper than others. The impact driver is handy for doing the heavier duty stuff like putting in fencing and coach bolts etc, not so much your shelves or cabinets.

What about the impact wrench? Well I need that for when working on the car. The impact driver just won't do the job it is just not manly enough, it doesn't have the balls to get a wheel nut off or the bolt out of a leaf spring.

Literally none of these are necessary. Us men could go back to using a chisel and lump hammer instead of an SDS drill. We could use breaker bar and sockets set, we could use a hand drill and a brace drill for wood. We would still have as many tools but the jobs you want us to do would take longer.

I have tried to be helpful with respect to the drill situation... I am wondering if you can return the favour on the shoe and handbag situation please? Please note I went nowhere near the cosmetics bag situation :p

Absolutely. But don't miss out on a jig saw, biscuit jointer, and linisher. And don't forget the Dremel.

I bought mine in 2013 and it gets used several times a week (often for several hours at a time) and it’s still going strong, I also bought a spare chunk and driver chuck so can have 2 different drill sizes and 2 different driver bits to hand.
 
I shall never question why any man in my life has need of so much. Because, if I do I open myself to his questioning mine.
Want more drills darling? Sure.. you go right ahead... I'm off to catalogue my collection of matching accessories coz I'm certain I noticed a gap in colour. And while I'm at it I might sort my hair band drawer.

And, much as it pains me to say it, the toolkit gifted to me 10 years ago is still a valued possession. I don't half get cross if something goes missing from it. Unfortunately the "Manual of all things DIY" did not come with it, I'm a Heath Robinson kinda person. And not averse to taking a saw to a thing. But I usually get there eventually. So long as it's done and aesthetics don't matter.
Oh and, while we are on the subject, do any of you males realise just how sexy a man fixing stuff is? Eh Mrsambulancekidd ?

I am going to have to disagree with you on number 1. :ROFLMAO:

You need at least 2 drills for drill bits, especially when you get a bit older.
1(a) A decent hefty one that will drill through anything when you need to (my 18v XRP Dewalt)
1(b) A lighter one that is reasonably powerful and a good battery life that you can easily hold over your head when you are doing repetitive drilling in easy stuff (my 18v Bosch).

Careful with that one many men make investments in the kitchen I purchased a new kenwood, brought a blender and desire a oven that produces steam to help the crust on bread. All gadgets are investments ? you have to show your other half and talk about the benefits. That is the art of making n investment your wife or husband comfortable with the purchase. ?

I wish you lot would cease from drilling holes all over the country. This will lead to a Swiss cheese effect and weaken the whole fabric, possibly leading to total breakdown. Stop it at once!!!

Reading thru this, now I realise if I could have the money spent on some of the tools, it will easily buy another camper. A lot of them are doubles for back up, I never buy one if I don’t have a job for it. If I get a tool is only financed by a new job, in my mind it pays for its self. Twice I have been broken into the work van, and had lost thousands in tools. In my garage I have only the essentials and run down from work. It’s full of most things and sometime you still need to borrow something you haven’t got.

To add to my collection I forgot I have a very old Dremel I inherited from my father and I have just bought a heat gun from Screwfix. The heat gun is for the heat shrink I am using in the van. Don’t tell management it could be used for domestic things like paint stripping.
Daughter had a mad idea to decorate there room. I had to submit the workshop keys for her to borrow screwdrivers, hammers and the sander. Her work boss left paint on our doorstep.
It was quite interesting to stand back and let them do there own room. It is practice for there own place when they move out eventually.

I have several drills, top one being a 36volt six amp battery one that would screw your arm off if it stuck in a hole. Little ones more convenient and lighter. Horses for courses.
 
i daren't list the tools i have ... it would make me buy more ....

none of them are for technical jobs ie working on cars etc, they are all for building something or other ...

i see no-one has admitted having a paslode gun yet ...... great but dangerous bit of kit (i put a 95mm nail through the fleshy part of my thumb, removed it myself and stuck a plaster and anti septic on it and still have it ...)
