Is almost everyone on here loaded?

They are, we were on the beach when we had high winds earlier in the year almost deserted and again a month ago nice walks etc Sandringham CAMC is a nice base to explore the area. 👍
Used to go there every Christmas for years. Love walking around the Sandringham Estate too. Fond memories. You can walk for miles can't you straight from the site

Absolutely right nice walks etc and can understand why you visited for years. 👍

Diverse thread from loaded Motorhomers to driving in Pakistan.
Must be towards the top of the list for thread drift.
No thread drift at all in my book. Getting lucrative consultancy assignments in places like Pakistan, Qatar and Canada enabled me to fund my early retirement and my chosen lifestyle!

Just lately we have had numerous posts saying £30 upwards to £100 pounds a night is good value to just park a van up for a night, does anyone stop and think state pension is around £20 a day for everything, now I am not pleading poverty but does that sound like good value, it doesn't to me.
Have people today just got too much money , iv worked months for less than £20 , in a different time I know but it just makes me stop and think before shelling out these amounts, in fact I couldn't do it.
Has money just lost all value now?
No your not the only one, Yes a lot of camp sites have just got greedy, they make excuses about higher prices, but that's because everyone has jumped on the band wagon and put up prices, since when have we received oil from Russia? NEVER. Also not renewing our two club memberships, might keep the one just for the rallies, but that's all we will be using.

Never given a thought to how much state pension I get and I've been drawing mine for 10 years.
Maybe I'm naïve but I'd be surprised if many folk with motorhomes have only the state pension as their income.
A lot of them do, unless they sell their house for that extra bit of money.

Ah yes maybe but how much did you pay in cross channel fares and diesel to get to those aires?
Work it out over the holiday and the UK campsites are not a lot dearer.
If you go across for a mouth or two, your laughing all the way to the bank, no chance getting them prices in the UK.
My son stayed at a Premier Inn last week in Leicester at £96 a night.
Just looked up Premier Inn Leicester City Centre hotel for Monday night, Right in the heart of the city, only a two-minute walk from Leicester train station, price for one night for two in Standard Room, £47.00

Mondays tend to be 'off peak' (few business guests) rather than premium weekend rates I think, like the ferries and the airlines where the rates are demand driven.

"£100 pounds a night" is not a lot less then a Hotel room, there are plenty of £50 and less a night rooms.
Wish you had been here a couple of weeks ago when I was trying to get this across but gave up eventually.
It's ok these people with loads of money paying rediculas prices to park on a bit of grass, but it sets a precedent and folks who havnt got loads of money can't do it.
Then I get all sorts of posts saying how much money ,I and others have got which isn't really the point which was ,why pay more than you can get bed and breakfast for never mind how much money you have got.

There are many things I can afford to pay I just refuse to pay because I don't feel its value for money.

I would have thought Mon-Fri would be more expensive as these "budget" hotels cater for the traveling business man. What do i know.

I get your point chaser and agree with you but you live on a farm so what you see as 'a bit of grass' might be a highly desirable tranquil place to spend a night or two for those living in less green neighbourhoods.

I was saying to a 30 something local in Leeds how I loved coming to Yorkshire; the Dales, moors and the becks etc. They asked me where I was from and when I said 'near Brighton' they were flabbergasted and couldn't believe that I went to Yorkshire for a holiday.

But it’s not just a bit of grass. If only life was that simple. It’s a business with overheads, staff to pay, insurance, rates etc. what about set up costs electric, water etc. Generally the more expensive bits of grass have better facilities. As I have said in many posts, we all have choices. As a millionaire Charlie if you don’t want to spend £30 that’s your choice. Save your money for the government, some don’t mind spending £30 plus. As individuals we all make choices whether right or wrong.

The thing we were talking about was charging £100 to park in a field with no facilities , no staff, nothing, I am certainly not a millionaire in money but that is not the point of the op, ok some might have 100 grand palaces and money to burn but that doesn't mean they have to pay stupid prices that price ordinary folks out of parking up.

Sadly whether we like it or not it’s called choice.

Sadly nobody wants to pay £7 for a kilo of carrots.

Chaser I haven't seen the posts you refer to where folk have said they felt that paying £30-£100 per night was good value to park on a bit of grass.

The most expensive site near us is probably Concierge Camping and even they don't charge £100 per night yet their facilities are great and the campsite very well laid out.

As others have said, it's down to personal choice and of course the ability to pay.

I do think you somewhat underestimate the draw that a simple grass site has though Chaser. If you live in the over populated south of England it has become very desirable indeed. Perhaps you should think of opening up a field or two!

Can I ask where are these £100 pitches with absolutely no facilities on fields?

We manage to tour most of the year and exist on our state pensions, albeit more difficult in the UK
We’re both retired and the state pension wouldn’t come close to covering our fixed costs, never mind all the optional things we do. Will the increasing energy costs cramp your touring style?

Well I'm up shit street paid €17 a night for the last two nights a bit better today €3 to park all day free overnight.
