Inconsiderate motorhome driver

Many years ago I got stuck behind a tractor and trailer loaded with straw bales on the Whitby road north the flask Inn.
It wasn't an old chugger, it was a massive 4 wheel drive jobbie easily capable of 45mph.
Farmer Giles decided 10 to 15 mph was fast enough.
After a couple of miles I got past on a steep hill just south of the flask.....and pulled Infront of him then stopped.
If looks could kill I'd be buried at the roadside.
It gave me untold pleasure watching him trying to set off uphill pulling maybe 15 tons of straw and trailer.
Brake testing a tractor…….. oh dear, oh very dear……

Really? You somehow made stopping once he’d overtaken into brake checking. You should be writing fiction books. You’ve some imagination.

Making him stop is evasive action, it’s the very definition of a brake check. 😂
So according to your thoughts then every car that brakes or stops in front of you is brake checking you. That’s a very strange way to see other road users. Vehicles slow down and stop for many reasons. Brake checking is slamming on ones brakes immediately in front of a vehicle for no other reason than to try to cause a crash. How you read that into a vehicle braking in front of you I don’t understand.
Do you honestly see every vehicle that brakes in front of you as brake checking you?
Every time you, or I or any other road user either slows down or stops causes the vehicle behind to either slow down or stop. That’s not brake checking.

Threads like this confirm that this forum is full of grumpy old farts who are so over the hill they couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding complaining all the time and talking like they're Tyson Fury on speed 😄.

Honestly, get a life...

Yep :xThumb: Made a fortune as an author as well, thank you. Keeps me in comfy retirement

Deliberately braking to make a vehicle halt behind you, especially what is effectively an HGV is not only very childish but potentially dangerous behaviour. I am just so sorry that you are unable to see that

you'd fail a normal test.

You put the hazards on then everyone knows you have problem & find the first available place to stop.

Problem is though that the regulations do not distinguish between a 'normal' tractor & what is deemed a 'high speed 'tractor which is required to have hgv spec brakes ,abs ,etc: As soon as you hitch a trailer to either the maximum legal speed is 25mph.(40km/hr) & that is why the trailers have ,or should have, the 40km/h sign attached to the rear.
The purpose of limp mode is so that you can continue driving to get home or your destination while preventing any further damage while doing so. In most cases, your car will also turn off accessories like the air-conditioning and radio to preserve energy to run the car.

My mate used to ride his bike so slow, all the flies were on the back of his helmet ! 🤣
Sounds like my brother tells me his motorbike will do 160to 180 mph.
so what’s the fastest he has been. 40mph

Childish I’ll go with. Funny too in that situation. Brake check? Unless he stopped dead immediately in front of the tractor then it’s not brake checking. Have a look at brake check videos on YouTube. They’re crazy.

Caw canny young man, what is all the rush about. :xdoh:
No rush buttons, just annoyed I couldn't pass and couldn't go at respectable speed if I wanted to.
I'd just come down the A19 from Newcastle and rarely exceeded 60mph, mostly in the left lane, the difference was I wasn't stuck behind some selfish tw@t and couldn't pass if I wanted.

Is wanton and furious driving still on the statute books from The good old Town Police Clauses Act of 1847.

Should have the speed limit for tractor towing a trailer first.

On monday I dropped darling daughter at Gatwick and the M3 was dead going up, different story coming home of course. I suddenly caught myself nearly undertaking because of middle lane hoggers going barely 60 on a virtually empty motorway. I was then having to pull out into the outside lane to overtake and then back again into the empty inside lane. Barmy, 4 or 5 times.

2 and a half hours to get there and 3 and a half to get back and that included the shortcut around Larkhill/Bulford camp to avoid the worst bits of the A303. The things we do for love, thank you National Rail, she’s earnt her trip to Stockholm mind you.

I don’t mind coming into that situation because I’m no longer “that guy”

Yesterday while driving between Chorley wood and Chipperfield along what is best described as a single lane track, we were keeping up a good rate of knots when we came to a Waitrose home delivery van doing just 2mph it wasn't until I noticed all these twigs flying around that I could see past the van there was a Tractor cutting the bushes at side of road. We followed this for a mile or two which was great, we were only heading for the garden center then Two Brewers for lunch so this gave us a pedestrians view of this stunning area, something that you miss at 60mph. Not so good for the delivery van who was time sensitive but for us it was an enjoyable ten minutes in Caw Canny mode.:xThumb:

I kid you not I was coming out of hull where the A63 goes into the 3 lane M62 and it was empty except for one white DS3 in the OUTSIDE lane, I could have undertook but I thought “do you know what I’m gonna shift her” so I went behind her, slowed down to the same speed 50mph (yes on a m way) started flashing my lights and she pulled over into the near side lane and I overtook her and did the same, then unbelievably she moved back into the OUTSIDE lane!! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and she stayed there till she disappeared out of sight!🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Had similar many years ago coming down the M6 in the middle of the night with nothing around at all.

I came across one of those years ago, very bizarre?

Many earlier vehicles when the eml comes on & they go in to limp mode you have tickover & nothing else. Not possible to 'get home'. Originally was only to get to a safe place to stop.

I don’t think it’s the few wasted minutes. More the, what gives the slow driver the right to deliberately hold up other road users? I’m sure this could be driving without due care attention and would hopefully attract the attention of the police. If there were any police that is.
The slow driver is at best inconsiderate, more probably incompetent.
I work for a company who pays their HGV drivers to slow down, they pay a quarterly bonus based on achieving an A ( scale goes from A to G ) parameters for these are green band driving, cornering speed, braking, rpm, idling, and a few more, full bonus is only achievable if you doddle around slowly, it is proven that we have far less accidents, better fuel consumption, lesser wear and tear, driver stress has reduced Etc, it’s a lot of extra money, most drivers who don’t suffer from a bad temper behind the wheel comply with this. A maximum speed is just that, taking it a bit slower doesn’t do any harm, only people who are always rushing are annoyed by it, it requires a bit of an adjustment in your behaviour, it is so much more relaxed to not chase around and constantly trying to achieve the maximum speed limit , certainly on a lot of B roads , trying to achieve this results often in dangerous driving.

I only worry about cars in front of me .those behind are of no concern , i drive at a speed im comfortable with and one that doesn't have things falling out of cupboards etc . I did the same when i worked as a courier in big vans . Speed limits are a maximum not a target.

I think it is courtesy to consider all drivers. I am aware of those behind, in front and coming the other way. I am aware of how frustrating it can be to be stuck behind a vehicle going below the speed limit when you are in a car capable of going faster (completely safely).

Where possible it is just nice to pull over and let someone past if they have been there a while. I did it all constantly driving up through the Pyrenees and it was greatly appreciated by most drivers.

If those behind you of are no concern what if it was an ambulance?

So 24 miles @ 60=24 mins, @ 50= 28.8 mins ,@ 40 36 mins if the motorhome weighed more than 3.150 tons speed limit on a single carriageway 50. So if he drove at 40 possibly a new motorhome driver you lost 4.8 mins.I am sure there are many people the wrong side of the grass would have been quite happy to have been stuck behind the motorhome.

Even if there was a tiger sticker it's still not a pretty sight being stuck behind a motorhome. By the same logic, I will prefer to pass a lorry, even if it is travelling at a decent speed, just because it's not a great view.

That reminds me of the faulty towers sketch when questioned about the veiw ! He replied what do you want to see the hanging gardens of Babylon or herds of wilder beasts
