Inconsiderate motorhome driver

You'll have to explain that one!
Follow the light. You have never seen cars trying to keep up with the blue flashing lights even though they are
just the public .

sticking just far enough to get through whatever. Without being stopped.

Lenny HB if you don’t get up to the speed limit (whether it’s 50,60 or 70) pretty quick on a motorcycle test you will fail it!
I distinctly remember getting a bollocking from my instructor on the dual carriageway in Scunthorpe for not doing that and explained it would have been a fail🤷‍♂️👍
Aye, a lad I worked with (EFAD blue light driver) failed his motorcycle test for going too slow. That took some living down.

if the hold up was caused by a bus, taxi, cyclist, antique vehicle etc etc ..........

some drivers drive slow, some drivers drive fast - why do we get so angry or annoyed? perhaps the driver behind the motorhome was holding everyone up by not passing when they could? i often drive in the belief that if someone wants get past then they will and by applying my brakes to slow down, at times i think are helpful, it gives them that opportunity.

i dont understand why it is considered as being inconsiderate when driving at a speed that the driver is comfortable with? i agree it can be frustrating and i have been more then frustrated at times, but i cant imagine someones possible lack or otherwise of a father figure would influence their driving style.

i am Spartacus, now where can i buy a Tiger sticker?
From pappajohn’s summary, the motorhome is driving at a variable slow speed and on & off the brake.
So no one behind can be comfortable.
If it was just a slow slows the other drivers could adjust. 🤷‍♂️

The Slow Driver
Slow drivers are more likely to cause accidents than speeding drivers because they disrupt the flow of traffic. ... Most accidents involve people who are driving 10 mph or slower than the speed limit rather than people who are speeding. So, slow drivers are not only annoying, they are also dangerous. Although it's far more common to be ticketed for speeding, it's also possible to get a citation for driving too slowly. Generally, it's illegal to drive so slowly that you block or impede the normal flow of traffic.

Dear oh dear whats the rush, you'll only get to the next slow one / hold up a bit sooner, chill.
Totally agree , and the more of a rush your in the more slow ones you'll meet take it easy

Have many people been done for driving too slow. I guess not many as the police will be stuck in a long line of slow traffic with so many bends it is not safe to pass …

Patience is a virtue always in a woman never in a man ! Well so I'm told .

I was an observer for an IAM car group. Speed limits were a perennial topic we had to explain.

One way we used to talk about them was to ask the associates ("Trainees") how fast they would drive on a dual carriageway on a warm summers day. 70mph was the usual answer. Ok, so what speed on the same road with thick fog, snow, high winds etc etc. - hoping for a lower answer!
Similarly, what about a narrow residential road with parked cars on both sides leaving room for only one car to move and a 30mph limit - again 30mph is not a good answer.

The underlying theory for both the IAM system and the emergency services systems is about being aware of everything around you (including weather effects) and adjusting your speed appropriately,

When taking your advanced test, the examiner sat next to you to has to see this demonstrated to meet the requirements of the test and that does include driving at the speed limit when safe to do so.

🤪stay calm & remember “rule 1🙂👀👍
(The bit about the word censor )

It’s not aimed at any Funster so isn’t a transgression. 👍

It isn’t inconsiderate to drive at a speed that you’re comfortable with, in fact it’s essential that you travel at a speed that you’re comfortable with. What isn’t considerate is allowing a queue of traffic to build up behind you and that’s the point being made by the OP.

Is it not better for them to drive at a speed they feel safe at rather than go too fast, have an accident and block the road for hours?

Of course it is! The point being made was that they were holding traffic up for 24 miles; they should have pulled over to let others pass.

I had many years ago had the job of dropping off and collecting jcb tractors
no lorry delivery’s at that time within 30 miles from base.

it was a job requirement that you were not permitted to hold up traffic
if there was a passing place.

now everything goes by lorry.

👀 I think that’s the crux of the problem. Funsters understanding of Rule 1 :xrofl:
defeating the word censor breaks rule 1 without being aimed at a Funster.

Try doing 30 on any motorway . Youll not last long
What will happen?
Asking as I looked a few minutes ago for a minimum speed limit and on motorways there isn’t a minimum but, driving at 30mph would attract other infringements - like driving with a lack of due care and attention. 🤔
You could name check the Mersey Tunnel as a place where you’d struggle with disregarding a minimum speed.

If I remember Spartacus is a long film ? Are they making this into a film , was it an India tiger or Chinese tiger ?

It's a bit of a paradox 🤔 if you defeat the word sensor by not writing a bad swear word, or writing a swear word in a polite way, is that wrong?

It’s going to be a big tiger sticker not another film :giggle:

So 24 miles @ 60=24 mins, @ 50= 28.8 mins ,@ 40 36 mins if the motorhome weighed more than 3.150 tons speed limit on a single carriageway 50. So if he drove at 40 possibly a new motorhome driver you lost 4.8 mins.I am sure there are many people the wrong side of the grass would have been quite happy to have been stuck behind the motorhome.

I don’t think it’s the few wasted minutes. More the, what gives the slow driver the right to deliberately hold up other road users? I’m sure this could be driving without due care attention and would hopefully attract the attention of the police. If there were any police that is.
The slow driver is at best inconsiderate, more probably incompetent.

That road is not an easy road and it has a very bad accident record
It’s also the norm in the summer to make slow progress in queue
I’m not remembering many pull in places to let traffic oasd

I think you’re missing the point somewhat.

Do you also have a justification for the actions of middle lane hoggers (rhetorical question)?

Ian

Better to arrive late than Dead on time
Or drive correctly and keep everyone moving at a reasonable pace. You know, not trying to dictate to the other road users what speed you think they should be driving.

A speed limit is a figure to keep below not a target to reach.

Wasn't me, I scare the sh*t out of myself going too fast on small roads.
More annoying are those stupid car drivers that crawl along and you are stuck behind them in the Motorhome & everyone behind is blaming you.
Yes, but it gives a bit of pleasure when they shoot past you, only to find that they are still doing the same speed as they are now behind the one that’s slowing you down. (sorry, not very good grammar).
