I'm literally crying, so sad to see this

So sorry to learn about your terrible loss Paul ....sending you both my best wishes for a successful claim and a speedy return to the world of motorhoming. Stuff like this can make a serious dent in your enthusiasm to continue but knowing there are so many wonderful club members out there wishing you well should eventually give you the kick start you need. Thank goodness no one was hurt and that you now have the horrible reminder off your drive.

Probably something you don't want to consider, but I think that could be re-built?

Might be worth seeing what the insurance company want for it?

I can understand if you never want to see it again.
The soot staining would render it a total loss. The damage may appear repairable but very unlikely. That is going to be a parts only job and go into the auction listed as not to be returned to use. The auction house will want it gone quick too because of the smell. Will make very little under the hammer I am afraid to say

Try and put it behind you Paul,,,,,, easily said than done... I know...

Hundreds and hundreds of "Funsters" are routing for you to get it sorted and back on the road...

You cannot think of calling it a day on the motor homing front.. :frowny:

Jim would $hit himself if you were to ask for a refund on your "Life Membership"...:hugs:

I expect you have very mixed emotions but hopefully having the vehicle off your drive and it not being a constant reminder of the awful events last weekend will give you a fresh start.

Wishing you both all the best in whatever you decide to do next.

Hi we have never met but I have followed this since your first post. Can’t add much to all the others, but when I read it first my stomach felt sick - so goodness how you both felt/still feel

But please take time to find hopefully another one you can love or should you chose to make a complete change take your time.

I sincerely hope you manage to think towards your future once insurance is sorted. Really hope they are good but remember never to accept first offer

Best wishes and hope to see a post from you with a big smilie face

Carol

Yes the pics probably don't do it justice..
The recovery driver said no way is it coming back...
Engine with less than 10k, great chassis and lots of salvage but not a rebuild in my view

My focus would now switch to making sure you get the best settlement price you can by scouring the web for similar vans and noting the prices achieved or being asked. Hopefully you will not need this info and the settlement price will be very close to the price paid.

This will be a great test of your insurer of choice.

Hope now that it is off the drive your insurance claim moves swiftly forward and you can start to make some plans.

So sorry to learn of this. I sincerely hope that your insurer settles very promptly and let’s you move forward.

Paul and Nikki, my heart goes out to you both. I truly hope this is not the end of your motorhoming lifestyle. You reached out to me recently when you heard about Brian, for which I am very grateful. I just wish I could be of some help to you now, but I know there is nothing I could say or do to make this situation any better for you. Just know that I care, and hope you both get back on an even keel very soon x x x

At least only owning it for a matter of days should place you in a good position for getting a realistic settlement. For someone happy to buy a 'write-off' and do some serious DIY, they could end up with a bargain motorhome. Even now, it still looks good.

Until you sell it

Gutted for you mate. Hope that the insurance company don’t stitch you up. Who are you insured with? Hope you win the lotto this week 🤞🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏🙏

You guys have really been put through the ringer with this experience. I sincerely hope the insurance company are empathetic to that and help to expediently resolve your situation so you can try to move on accordingly. 🤞

trust me, if you saw it, no sane person would entertain it. It's a write off completely from both an insurance perspective and a super DIY perspective.
regarding the settlement, I will stand firm. Their job is to put us where we were before the fire. It's going to be a toughie.

And you know one who is behind you

I'm sorry that you've had such a horrendous experience haganap. I hope that it is resolved quickly.

Your experiences remind us to regularly check our smoke alarm in our 'van.

having read all this, my heart goes out to you both, not because of the lose of the a very nice motorhome which is enough to make anybody cry with despair , but because of your lose of love in your hobby thats been with you forever. I do hope you can put this behind you, I hope the insurance company play fair and pay out in full and someday we will meet on a rally field and I can buy you both a big drink,

remember your day will come again.

Your lovely dog tag could be saved, I am sure. For example it could be set in some resin to seal it, if it is fragile and that would also mask any smoke smell.
CraftyCaver ?
So sorry to hear this. Yes i am sure it could be put into resin, i have set all sorts of keepsakes for people, do get in touch if interested.

Yep, that is the priority. Get online and try to find comparable examples of your van. The insurer may try to avoid the uncomfortable truth that the value of second hand vans has increased to dramatically over the last two years, so get some evidence, apart from your own purchase documents that the price you paid was fair and reasonable for the current market.

So sorry to hear this, time will allow recovery of the mind and soul. My condolences to you and family.

If the insurance do not offer what you can can show to be a reasonable payout, by examples advertised you can take the claim to the insurance ombudsman, who will look at it from a non biased view, but you will need to demonstrate why it's is worth what you ask by way of adverts etc. The insurance company won't like that as they will have to pay the ombudsman.

Best of luck

Roger

The receipt showing what Paul paid days before the fire should be sufficient. The personal bits and pieces and camping gear is another matter. How can anyone work out what 20 years of memories and all those treasured bits and pieces are worth?

Only thing is one the same now would be thousands more, if obtainable.

possibly, but prove that based on the equivalent actually selling at the high price, would be the insurance company's answer
