Good morning,,
well it’s raining here, no work for me this week, I don’t think! They give rain all week on my app! Still it gives me more time to work on my idea for the business,,
I have had an offer of a chat about the marketing, from a funster for next week which is nice, and it’s hard when you don’t really know how to word and present an advert for a new building idea!(well, new to me) I haven’t even gota good name for it sorted out yet! But I do think it wants to be a name that states something as opposed to my name, which I have traded under for years!!
now because of my mindset, which has formed now due to the year of experiences I have had, I really am happy to give anything a go now,, I have nothing to loose, and I still have my back up plan of either becoming a criminal, later in life or a degenerate tournament poker player, in live tournaments around the country! ( don’t you love a dreamer!!)
ok, I’m going to do a few chores now,, so I will catch you later!
I’m very tempted to open my building business idea to you lot on here,, I do need advice and I would like to just get a general reaction to the idea,,, so I may do that later this evening,,, Enjoy your day! Xx

I had a 2.8 injection many years ago,, diamond white, limited slip diff, recapping seats ( grey leather) fastest car I’ve ever had!
twitchy back end though!! Lovely car!

move had a very lazy day,, in factI’ve only been outside twice!! Once to empty the cassette, and once to take the rubbish out!!
I’ve been writing down ideas for the advertising I want to start,, but I still have no idea how to market myself!! John ( ex gasman) funster has offered to help next week, so I’m grateful for that, he has some experience with marketing etc,, nice offer,, now he doesn’t even know what I’m proposing yet but this is a brief explanation of what I would like to do !!
I would like to offer 3 types of building service, to any potential customer who has the time, inclination or money,, I shall list all 3 services, and then explain as best I can !!
1.... full building service ( as normal)
2....work with the customer to complete his project,,,
3..... offer a service where I can teach the customer at every stage, to do the work himself ( with guidance).
ie,, show him how to set out,, instruct him in groundwork’s, concreting etc,, show him for a day how to lay bricks/ blocks etc, then show him how to putthe roof on, plasterboard,then plaster etc,,, this could be done either as a set fee, or a daily rate whilst teaching we would be doing a days work as well!
now if a customer wants to have a go, they can save hundreds if not thousands of pounds on labour etc,, and I could also get their materials organised for them at cost!
I would go round to them, explain the three options, and let them make a decision,, setting out my costings to them,, eg. Working with them to complete the job,,teaching them as we work together,,
just teaching them the basics in a day or so at each stage, then they get on alone,,,
or I can, obviously do the whole job if there not capable!
now I know it sounds a bit sketchy, but what do you think in principle!!
if they fancy having a go, either on their own, or even working with me, under instruction, they could learn and save a lot of money!
do you think it’s a viable proposition?

Just watching TV and an advert keeps coming up trustatrader.com what's that all about? Can you get on that?

I think there is a danger boundaries between options 2 & 3 could get blurred and you'd end up at their beck and call at all hours for which you may end up not getting paid for. You may also need to be careful about where the liability lies if it all goes wrong.
I can see it could work if you get the right customer, but equally it could turn into a nightmare with the wrong one who thinks he's a builder and definitely isn't.
My opinion is that you are overthinking things too much.
If I were you I'd stick to what you know best and are good at.
I'm sure there is plenty of work for a skilled brickie and you could pick up lots of other more varied work.
I don't think you need marketing at all.
Could you offer your services to other small building work on a casual basis to small / medium building companies ?
Also estate agents, letting and sales often need small building works and repairs done.
Above all keep it simple, flyers printed and Facebook page maybe, don't go spending money on marketing.
The downside is it may limit you to a town or county, but funsters could find you work I'm sure if you want more nationwide work.
I'm pleased your looking positive towards the future now and I hope you can get sorted with something that will make the most of your talents

1 or 2 will work fine, 3 is a non starter. for a start, you will need professional indemnity insurance to teach anyone. they would have comeback against you when not if it all goes wrong
option 4 is a tried and tested route that works. project manage and oversee building projects for people that want to employ the trades rather than a builder. consultation fee to discuss the project and advise and a percentage of the final cost to oversee it fully.
