Ian and helga go south !!

Had a similar thought as above, is your van parked on the level, fridges can be a bit sensitive to being on a slope. Mind you if it's not lighting at all then that is probably not the problem. If not working on electric hook up are you sure it's not where you are plugging into that has a fault, worth checking with something else and check for reverse polarity.

We sold a van to someone a couple of streets away and they rang up a week later complaining that the fridge wasn't working. We went round and there it was on a sloping drive, the gas burning away but the fridge wasn't getting cold, "But we have tried it on the hook up too" they said. Colin tested their socket in the garage and it was wired up wrong (self installed a few days before!). He levelled the van and the fridge started to cool down, he also retired the garage socket for them.

Not sure how they got on after that as they were probably too embarrassed to call again.

Lololol

Lololol. I am flat or level. I have no dramas with power going in I just think it's an old fridge which has decided to retire. I will have a look at his place his I mean.

Mr Ian The Builder...

Just had a chat with a (Brit) friend of mine down here in Portimao and he was telling me how well his son's building business was going. Apparently he is always looking for good, reliable men who know what they are doing.

I thought of you.

Are you good and reliable and do you know what you are doing?

(No Agency Fee required... it's all part of the Funster network!)

JJ :xcool:

Lol. Jj. I ain't finished this one yet mate. Lol. Seriously jj if I get work mate it will be my own I don't and can't work for anybody else unless I'm on the bones of my arse and eating dogs!! But thanks for the offer mate.

Well we got a lot sorted today! Nearly finished the doorway just re stoning the reveals then rough finish plaster to match the rest then starting on turning the garage/shed into a bedroom, Jo bless her went out and got a heater today and a hob with 2 gas bottles the neighbours sold her so now she doesn't have to light a real fire and she can cook for England !! Also managed to fill one of the 1000 ltr water tanks and that will be good for my sand and cement! Slow progress but we're getting there! Jo is happier now because she can work her hair straighteners of a generator which I told her was really important while she's living in a shed but if she's happy that's all good! Lol. I will post in a few days when I have done more and have more to report, have a lovely day tomorrow one and all, and spare a thought for the less fortunate than ourselves! If Jo ,and working here has done anything for me at all , it has taught me that to live and be happy we don't need 95% of what we think we do!! Merry Christmas Felice navidad

Ian, been following this thread from the beginning , it's like reading a novel, man, you've got it made , just your luck to meet a lady on the ferry who needs help , I'm sure you've hit on the style of life everyone on here would choose if they had half the courage you seem to have, good luck to you mate and have a good Christmas in the finca :xThumb::xThumb::xThumb::xThumb::xThumb::xThumb:

Have a great day tomorrow Ian and Jo, all the best. :xThumb:

Ian some Christmas Wish you have turned out to be for Jo, sometimes things just happen don't know why , hope you both have a good Christmas Day you deserve it. :xThumb:

I ALMOST wish I had come with you cause it looks as though you could do with a hand, but I am sunning myself in the Algarve and resting after the long hard slog to get here. :xlaugh::xlaugh:

I know we could have had a real blast working together or at least me making the tea or supplying the cold beer:xThumb::xThumb:

We know you will make the best of the situation as you can only see the positive side on everything.

Have you got 12 volt supply to your fridge, cause if not it won't work full stop.

See ya when we see ya.

Hello sundowners and all ! Jo cooked a lovely Christmas dinner on an outside stove and it was beautiful,, I was well pleased!! Anyway I hope you all had a lovely day both with or without family!! So now it's all over again so back to the grind! ( for the unlucky ones). Lol. I had another good day today and cut out and fitted a couple of nice stained glass windows Jo bought from uk! I will load pics tomorrow, but some not so good news for Jo she has this very old dog called Tyson, lovely old boy who unfortunately is on his last legs bless him , deaf, blind, but lovely! He seemed like he was having a turn today but I hope he gets over it!! Anyway tomorrow I'm doing some timber work for a suspended ceiling in the new lounge and bookshelves etc then plaster then tile the floors build internal and external shower etc. But all great fun! I tried to have an outside shower last night but the branch that had a sheet over it to hide my modesty collapsed as I was washing my privates and towell was down a hole! It was like a carry on film. I had my crown jewells in one hand my shower gell squirting all over the place in my other while frantically reaching Down the hole with my foot for the towell praying Jo doesn't walk out of the finca. I had to burst into laughter at the state I was in !! But hey ho. All a part of my adventure! Did a load of washing by hand today for the first time and what a palaver that is!! I am really looking forward to finishing in a few weeks and getting to a site with all mod cons!!! Now about helga. From first glance she looks ok but like I said no fridge at the moment, and today the water wasn't draining from my kitchen sinks properly so I got a plunger and it pulled a load of crap from pipe. Did notice though that the trap under doesn't have a rubber seal ( probably perished) through time and was slightly leaking under sink, I will get a rubber when I buy some tools I need for tiling from the ferrateria but it's ok for now with a temp fix! What I really need to do when I have left here is head for somewhere where I can stay for a bit and get all these jobs sorted ,, I would like to pull her apart a bit and give the old girl a spruce up... So back to it again tomorrow and I hope you all enjoyed or am enjoying your holiday. Will post pics tomorrow ,, Ian and helga XXX.

Yes ayes anthea it is a bit basic but it's dry and no damp, good roofs etc and with Jo working so hard every day it's getting better by the minute! Jo bought it 8 years ago and only now has she been able to come and live here, she had a few visits on holidays etc but understandably unable to do what I can , She originally bought it while she was seeing a builder in a relationship but now on her own, which I think is a real shame, it would have been as I said to her a fantastic adventure and experience for a couple to have done!!! Anyway anthea I hope you are well and having a good time. Wherever you are!

Jo found an angel when she met you on the ferry @ianthebuilder

Hope you get Helga sorted soon.
To be honest reckless it suits the both of us, it would have been just a few weeks driving otherwise, and to be honest working on an old stone building like this I have learnt loads myself wich I think may help me later on with any more I may be asked to work on!

Hahaha. You wouldn't have said that when I was all over the place in a collapsed shower last night! I must have looked like a bloody loon !!! Lol
Haha I'm still laughing.....sorry:xrofl:

When does the film come out!

In that sort of situation it's sometimes best to pretend you are an exhibitionist I'm told :)

Guy I used to work with is a bot of an adventurer and his description of camping in Iceland in the snow were entertaining........ as he said, when relaxing (nude and alone) in a natural hot pool one needs to remain aware of how deep the snow is getting so the tent remains within easy reach even when your towel has been buried and lost in the snow :)
