Ian and helga go south !!

Lads, lads, Who are we kidding? We spend nearly every waking moment trying to find or trying to please the woman of our dreams!! And if we're successful we know we're the lucky ones !! Now about the building work , I have had a drink so I'm not gonna say too much but there is always a solution to the problem!! If I think I'm getting enough work or big enough work I can register and go legal in France!! I know it's complicated but it's another way of working!! I have been legal in England all my life and got nowhere, so France doesn't scare me! Death and taxes are what none of us can avoid !!!! Lol

Good morning ,,,

I'm awake ( I think) and don't feel to bad to be honest!! I went out last night and this is what happened !!

Got invited to play poker with the poker school lads! Great fun, got hammered !

Went downstairs when I got knocked out to have a drink with Tommy ( who leaves today) met lots of good people and got hammered again !!

A good night in my book ! Was told about the ins and outs of hiring a car ( policy from uk, bought online for excess ) best place to go etc.

Anyway I was going to move on a day or two ago but I think I will stay for a while! I like it here!!

Met a German in the bar last night and he drives a v w. Phaeton! I have only seen pictures of them so I'm going to have a good look at it today !! That will be interesting cause I don't think there's that many about in uk !!

I am up early to also help Tommy get sorted with caravan before he pulls off ! He told me a couple of funny situations he got into while he was here but I'm afraid they can't be repeated online !!!

That's it really, went to the loo and also put a load of washing in early so all good for 40 mins and all seems quiet at the moment !! Have a great morning and I will see you later ! Xxx

Morning Ian

Edit ps glad you survived the night, does Tommy pull the caravan with the Phaeton?

We went to the factory in Dresden where they assemble the Phaeton, I think I am saying that VW have just recently announced it will be discontinued.

This is the assembly plant, they call it the Gläsernen Manufaktur as the factory is all glass and steel, the big round glass thing is the carousel with finished cars in it.

You can do a factory tour during the week for a few €.

Yes those Phaetons used to be popular here. Bloke round near me had one. No idea if he still has. I've never seen one with the w16 engine though. Seen the w12 5L, then they went in to diesels as I think the petrol ones aren't that economical. There's 3L Tdi's , V10 5L ones ,4,2's. Used a lot of the engines that were in the audi A8.

Sorry Ian, I must try to keep up.

I know RULE 1 and spelling but let's blame predictive text and correct that to "DIESEL" to help your following masses.

You've spoiled it for me! I thought Seidel was a German tuning company!

Well I am on the bus going to barbate or as we Londoners like to call it. Barbatty!! Lol. Looking forward to my day out !! Will let you know about the car when I get back. Oh and it's a stretched one!! Looks bloody lovely inside from through the windows! Haha. Xx

Try and do as much negotiations from where you are. get photos of specific jobs and price accordingly job by job (easier to control) Not teaching you to suck eggs but as much as you love dashing about the place (stop tittering in the back!) You really dont want to waste your time..sounds like a handy contact though, good luck!:)

While I'm at it Ian....Always remember to measure twice cut once!:D

Londoner? I thought you where a country yokel from Norfolk:sick:

I nearly looked ::LOL:
reviews generally atrocious..I've never seen one. but with a VW badge who would notice:)

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/volkswagen/vw-phaeton-30-v6-tdi-lwb-2015-review/

There's only one Phaeton worth having, that you can buy, & that is the 12 cylinder.
The reviews are bound to be on the diesel versions. It all got dummed down. The original concept was a car to rival merc S class for luxury whilst being able to cruise at 300km/hr all day at an ambient temperature of 50ºc whilst maintaining the interior at 22ºc. Which it did admirably. Even though when on sale they were limited to the agreed 155mph.
They also had everything on board inc, satellite internet, cigar humidor ,etc.

How things have changed. Adolf Hitler charged Ferdinand Porsche with designing a car that would carry a family of four and their luggage, was air cooled and would cruise @100kms per hour. That's how we ended up with the people's car, Volks wagon. 300kms per hour now eh.

The German told me that his did 240 km per hour max. But it's comfortable at 200 all day!!!! Different world. Me and helga plod along at 80 !! Lol

He tows a tabbart twin wheel caravan also. The whole rig must be the length of a football pitch !!!

No but its a great challenge trying to avoid both

Or for 2 hours until he needs a petrol station!
We drove back from the French Alps in a friends V6 petrol Peugeot once at around 120+ mph and that's about as long as a tank lasted!

Everything crossed including eyes.

When we sold the house in Durham (chapel and school conversion so BIG) we had someone sent by the agent who walked into the hall and said "I wanted a modern three bedroom semi". and there are always they people who look round houses as a hobby....... I hope I never have to sell a house again.

That's because the agent will have targets to meet. We hear about it all the time and it must be much more competitive in London.
And you've got to think although it's not exactly what they are after it might just appeal to them and jump in.

Yes Judge there all the same when we were selling ours (large 3bed bungalow with large garden ) the estate agents sent an old lady round " oh very nice but I was looking for small 2bed with a tiny garden " waste of time for both

friends of mine put their 3 bed family house on the market and the agents sent an old couple round looking for something much smaller, but when they saw it, the garden was exactly what they wanted. you really dont know when the ideal buyer is going to walk in. and they do say that people make up their mind if they want to live there within the first 5 minutes, much like walking into the ideal motorhome layout.

good luck with the sale, and hope you find your perfect new home

Oh poo....just catching up....would like to have seen a pic of that:LOL:

Well I have just got out of the phaeton!! From the outside UNTILL further inspection it looks similar to a new Passat! Lol. But on closer inspection it looks lovely. ! Stretched to 5.4 Mts long ( an extra 400 mm). Approx,,

There is no name on the outside at all !

When the doors open I must admit for a vw it is stunning ,, understated interior, all black dash, lovely auto stick, the whole interior including head lining, carpets etc. Is beautifully made and put together!! White exterior, some metallic trim, brown leather seats with black piping,, like sitting in an armchair in every seat ! Really nice ! Now here's the rub !!!

It was made to order by first owner, all extras and stretched, Cost new 120.000 euros!!!! This guy bought it 6 months ago with 60,000 miles on the clock at 4 years old for ,,, wait for it,,,,

25,000 euros !! It has depreciated by 25.000 euros a year ( roughly). And to be honest I wouldn't know one luxury car from another but just from looking and sitting in it I would say it was worth every bit of 25,000 euros! But not 120,000 new!!! My opinion for what it's worth is that it is a beautiful car worth every penny. Used !!!! Move over Jeremy clarkson!!!! Lol

Ian your head has been turned by a car!!!?Not a lady!

He'll be getting Helga jealous!

Cars are mad, I have a 13 year old Audi RS6, 2 years ago it cost 1 tenth the price a guy at work has just paid for a new one. Mine went down a bit in value but is now back around what I paid for it, his is 6 months old and I dread to think how much it has lost!

Yea the 240kph (155mph) is the voluntary agreed speed limiter they fit to stop the EU imposing a legal maximum. Can be removed easily & even specified to be 'unlimited' if ordering new. Just an ecu modification.
