I have a solution for good Mobile Data (300G) whilst in Spain (then any zone 1 country)

Hi all, has anyone used the Tiekom sim in an iPad to set up a hotspot whilst travelling? I have had a TP Link M7350 4g LTE mifi for a while but am losing a bit of confidence in its power to pull in a signal. Therefore wondering about the IPad option. Failing that need to research an alternative mifi with aerial connection? Thanks in advance
I have the TP link and it mostly performs slightly better as my I phone signal wise, using a tiekom sim too in my tp link.

I was thinking that if a Spanish company like Tiecom can offer this deal and obviously make a profit from it, why don't any UK based providers do similar deals?

Thanks I will try it in the tplink when away at the end of the month, cheers!

In my experience, a mifi device will work slightly better than a phone or iPad. If you want to invest a few quid, I’ve been a fan of the Netgear routers and find them excellent as a hub for the MH.

A bit of feed back for the forum from my experience.

As a result of Carpmart excellent recommendation I ordered a Tiekom SIM - they posted 2 SIM cards to my UK address and once set up worked without a glitch in a TP-Link M735. The router had also been recommended by another member on here. A neat little bit of kit. This set up worked for 5 weeks in May and on my return I sent a quick email to Camino who terminated the contract.

I'm away in September to France & Spain for another 5 weeks and I have emailed Camino who is now in the process of setting up the second SIM card for my use. All in all a top arrangement!! Many thanks for the advice!

I also use mine in a TP-Link M7350 and have used it in the UK, France, Germany and Spain without any problems at all :) I'm super happy with it :)

5 months use -

UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary. Worked faultlessly.

Stopped working in Serbia so I emailed customer services, who quickly reminded me that Serbia was outside 'Zone 1' and no roaming agreement exists.

Can't praise it highly enough for this type of travel. Game changer for us.

I think you will find you may get a slightly improved signal if at all and probably best getting a good router that takes your sim and roof/mast mounted antenna.
our motorhome WiFi has class7 router matched with a roof mounted antenna and always gets a good signal😊

Thank you Carpmart for an excellent tip. Emailed Camino, sim arrived a week later and now using in UK ahead of trip to Île de Re at the end of the month. Our 4yr old can chew thru more than 10Gb+/day with an hour or two of Disney Plus so this is a godsend while outside the UK….

Which apn are you guys using while in the UK? Still using the auto apn ac.vodafone.es which works fine for me, but the Mrs is complaining Argos & Hobbycraft are showing prices in Euros

Update (16-08-2022). On the recommendation of Carpmart I ordered and had delivered to me (to my French address) 2 SIMs, we started our travels in France, into Belgium, Germany, Denmark and the Norway for the first three weeks absolutely no problems excellent coverage, couple of days ago real problems with it dropping connection but eventually re-connected, yesterday no connection at all, the Netgear connected to the roaming service (Telnor Norway) but no internet.
Contacted their service via e mail and they advised that Vodafone Spain had blocked roaming on the SIM (only used 53.4 meg of available 300), they very quickly got back to me and advised to utilise the second SIM which they had activated and this is the explanation, content of email reply
We have 2 types of Vodafone SIMS that are exact at the user level.
Since August, Vodafone has made changes to its Roaming policy without prior notice and is applying SIM locks on some type 2 cards.
All these blocks have been carried out on type 2 SIMs and to date no type 1 SIMs have been affected.

What we are doing is changing SIM to all customers who have this incident to type 1 cards (free of charge and resetting data usage to 0 GB).
In principle you shouldn't have problems again but I can't assure you since Vodafone acts without warning.

Just to add, the coverage and reception in every country we've passed through has been brilliant and even in remote areas in Norway still good signal, currently half way across Lofoten islands and still excellent.

Is there a way of telling if you have a type 1 or 2 SIM card? I have three cards for use albeit I was sent them last March?

Me too. Mine still in the post so not sure what I’ll get.

Me too, I received my 2 sim cards on Friday, going to activate one next week for our trip at the end of August.

Just bought a Lebara sim for 1p, yes a penny, 12Gb a month data Including roaming in Europe, 100 mins phone in Europe, goes to £6.99 in six months when you cancel and get another, works in my iPhone and my Netgear router

In reply to which type of card is 1 or 2 I've no idea they haven't identified how to tell in their e-mail which I copied at the bottom of my post.
Since putting the other card into service the connections have been faultless, I will post if anything changes.
I have to say they have been excellent and quick to respond to any questions or queries I've had.

I also had to change my sim card earlier this week in the UK. My sim card suddenly failed to connect and would not reconnect to the internet. Prior to this it had been faultless. Very prompt email response suggested my card was damaged. activated second sim which has been working perfectly since. I would still recommend Tiekom as the service has been excellent. I cannot understand why the big mobile companies are incapable of providing a reasonably priced sim for high data use across the UK /EU in this day and age. I hope they are not going to trip up companies like Tiekom who are providing this service.

I’ve been waiting 8 days for arrival of the SIM in the UK. Got two delivery days left before we head away, what do you think my chances are???

Took mine three weeks to arrive........arrived day before we left! 🤞for you.

Sent me into a panic because we go away next Wednesday and I couldn't remember where I had put the second SIM which I might now possibly need! Found it after 20 minutes frantic searching :)

SIM card arrived this morning ……….phew. Off tomorrow so that’s good news. The only outstanding concern is whether or not I’ve received type 1 or type 2 cards.

Maybe ping Camino and ask her if there is an easy way to identify type 1 and type 2 SIM cards?

Sent an email this morning so hopefully hear something on Monday.
My uneducated guess would be SIM one and two are no different prior to activation, SIM 2 simply becomes known as SIM 2 because it’s the “spare” (SIM 1 has already been activated) and can be activated with the new Vodafone gubbins. If you catch me drift.

Some guidance if you don’t mind.

Contacted Camino yesterday and requested for one of the SIMs to be activated.
Had a reply asking which of the 2 I wanted activated and I replied.
Not heard anything since.
We’ve tried the SIM in the router and drawn a blank.

Did any of you get an email confirming the SIM was activated and did the email contain an other instructions, I.e something you needed to do to get the SIM working?

Many thanks

Update
Camino has activated the card. We get a message in the router saying “insert PUK”. Have no idea what that is and even if I did you can’t enter any data into the router.

Any ideas anyome?

Many thanks
