For 1 or 2 weeks I agree its probably not worth the expense. But for longterm travelling Europe wins hands down
Oh it's a different ball game if you can travel long term. Not an option for most people who are working though, although, a possibility for more than in used to be with the increase in remote working I imagine

Thanks for the info. I may give it a closer look in the future. Although I travel alone with the dogs here, and travel alone all sorts of places around the world, traveling alone abroad, in a motorhome (when I have only a few months experience) with two dogs, sorting out PPs etc, and only having 1-2 weeks at a time seems a bit overwhelming!
Many of us do it, and enjoy it. Other countries are so much easier with motorhomes, and with dogs, when compared to the uk.

We were booked on a ferry Plymouth to Roscoff 3 weeks ago. 8pm ferry and at 11.30 am got a text from Brittany Ferries to say the crossing was cancelled due to weather. By midday we'd booked the tunnel for 10pm, drove to Folkestone and head down at Watten Aire just after midnight. Still worth the drive imo !
We love the Aire at Watten and the closeness to the town, it’s a lovely spot

Spain sounds far too hot at present. Anything above 25C is too hot for me. Means all I can do is sit in shade and I don’t want to just sit around. Last summer in uk was too hot, spent more time in the house behind drawn curtains!
Spain is a large country and its not 25 degs everywhere,,,.ind you that's just comfortable for me..Bit cloudy here in Benicasim today and 20 degs.BUSBY.

I / we just love motorhoming , we’ve done down to the med , to the Austrian border and up to Norway and ALL points in between .
We also adore this sceptred isle ( a lot may i add ) , its the motorhoming we adore , every bit of it .

A statement has been made that most motorhomers only tour in the UK. It may be true or not, I havent a clue. We have a lot of members though so could be fairly representative if enough votes are cas

To be honest I’m saving touring the UK until I’m too decrepit to tour Europe ….… it’s so difficult, cold , wet and pricey in comparison 😂

There really is some tosh spoken about motorhoming in this country 🤣

Oh Bejeez you have confused us all.

Your Avatar says 'Ireland' is that ROI? Or NI? if NI do you mean 'this country' as NI or whole of UK?

UK , hope that helps your apparent state of confusion , and always remember just because you are confused it doesn’t mean the ALL are also confused 💡🤣

Motorhoming in this country ( UK to avoid any confusion to the ALL ) is fantastic ,it’s varied and wonderful and full of adventure , great sites and places to visit all year round .
“Europe “ also is as varied and wonderful to visit ( our July 2023 Loire trip is much anticipated ) ,just stop knocking the UK as a motorhoming destination . It just comes across as a little narrow minded and mean .

I’ll stay in the uk now, the whole AHC and pet passport, pet control charges have done it for us.toured France and Spain a few times in the past but will just have a few trips using britstops and park for night. diesel prices also are a factor £100 to brim the tank will get us 400 miles justabout. Oh and the road tax has gone up £325 now ! keep thinking of selling up but can’t decide.

Been motor homing fo 12 years now never had the desire to go abroad as I haven’t seen this country yet.
Won’t rule out the possibility of going abroad in the next couple of years though.

Having a bit more time to tour now and a better level of mobility we are enjoying finding parts of the UK we have never really spent time in or visited before. Whitby then Bamburgh last week and plenty more planned. Will do some Europe in the future when I feel confident enough in my health to leave the safety of these isles, until then I will continue to find plenty to enjoy and enlighten me here. I guess we will then do a mix of both. It would have been good if the original question had included that option.

We retired 13 yrs ago and have motorhomed extensively in both Europe and the UK. The Master Plan was to tour Europe whilst we were younger and the health insurance would be cheaper and to save the UK for “when we were old”. With Brexit that has now changed things and we find ourselves touring the UK more during the time we’re not allowed into Europe. So currently in cold Cornwall and Devon- but still having fun! Off to discover Holland, Germany & Denmark shortly for our 90 days.
We have two Golden Retrievers, who now have German PPs. i do find dog walking off-lead is much easier in the UK as in Europe there are a lot more ‘Dogs on leads’ signs or local restrictions that mean dogs must be on leads at all times. Many people will just ignore the signs - but my language skills are not up to debating the issue if I’m stopped 🤣

Short trips away in the UK, long trips generally Europe. Both have their pros and cons but we really enjoy both. This year I’m adding a two month autumn stint in France for the RWC. Getting tickets has been the hardest part of planning! Campsites, apartments etc. all pretty straightforward.

Only UK in ours.Always make sure we book a site near a bus stop or within walking distance. We have a 11 year old spaniel and Iam not prepared to pay 200 for a health certificate to go abroad. If we go abroad we fly.

It is not a case of knocking the UK it's just that we find it so difficult to use a Motorhome in the UK. Very difficult to park in towns finding stops for the night is difficult. We did a couple of weeks last year one in Wales and another one in November in England, it's just too stressful. Wild spots often not very good, sites expect you to book, how can you book if you don't know where you are going to end up that day also we don't like sites.
You just don't get all this hassle abroad.

Haha, you chose the wrong guy to reply to with that comment; Tam works part year to fund his travels.

It’s only a net cost if you don’t offset it against the savings you make on pitch fees on the continent.👍

Used to love going to the continent but getting health insurance stopped me,
Haven’t tried a quote for 3 years but if anyone can recommend an insurer
I used the medicaltravelcompared.co.uk website and went with
travelinsurance4medical.co.uk - a bit over £700 for worldwide excluding USA, annual multi-trip for couple both over 70,
I have a slightly dodgy heart valve, myeloma and a dodgy liver.
Up to 60 days per trip within Europe.

That has been my experience too. We did a tour of UK last year, taking in Wales and Scotland as well as the East Coast of England, which was largely new to me.

We enjoyed the trip but I had to plan it all in advance and book sites. This was necessary - several sites had "Full" signs outside them when we arrived but with a reservation we were let in. As anyone who has done it knows, in mainland Europe you don't need to book anywhere if you are just touring around. Different perhaps if you want a winter pitch in or around Benidorm but otherwise touring is just so easy.

Were in Scotland at the moment. High of 7 yesterday and rain all day. Looking forward a possible 12 today! No sitting outside here 😃
22 degrees last week
It's the same story as when I go fishing,
'much doing?'
' No it's crap, but you should have been here yesterday!' :whistle2:

We do both, regularly go to France but also have done many other countries, loved going to Croatia .
France booked for three weeks in July and again in October.
Just back from Peterborough, have various rallies, car, caravans and club shows in the UK,
A couple of steam rallies this year too.
Don't believe it is good for motorhome to sit unused for long periods, life is too short so get out and enjoy.
