Given the number of motorhomes for sale that only do about 2000 miles a year I'd say most people don't go very far at all. I don't think motorhomefun is very representative of the general motorhome population.

Also, when I travel abroad for a couple of months at a time I only see an handful of Brits. I expect most of them are in Benidorm!

Only done a couple of Beni sites, and while there were plenty of Brits there, they were easily a tiny minority.

Spain sounds far too hot at present. Anything above 25C is too hot for me. Means all I can do is sit in shade and I don’t want to just sit around. Last summer in uk was too hot, spent more time in the house behind drawn curtains!
Not holiday weather unless it's 30° we are in Northern Spain at the moment 33° yesterday & today, perfect when the air is dry without humidity.
We were sitting outside last night came in when it started to get chilly, checked the temperature it was still 27° outside.

Were in Scotland at the moment. High of 7 yesterday and rain all day. Looking forward a possible 12 today! No sitting outside here 😃

I believe that the forum may be biased towards those who travel abroad purely because they possibly joined Fun to gain information about aires, pet passports and the best way to avoid the peripherique in Paris. 🤷‍♀️
You forgot Rouen! 😱

we have to go back on the 2lst as swmbo has a scan booked
Totally off topic but how did you manage ref travel insurance?

Currently residing in Benicassim & the weather is definitely cooler here than inland, 22 - 24c predicted for the next 5 days.
We've experienced temperatures in the high 20's down in the Los Narejos area but it was 37c when we drove inland heading up here 🥵
Staying here for the weekend, then will make a 4 day dash across France to Le Tunnel....don't want the suntan to fade before we get back to North Yorkshire :gum:

Same same here. Lived in Europe for 20 years, but without the van, so I’ve done a lot of touring there already. Strange thing was, that I have hardly seen a lot of the uk, so works for us at the moment.
Before I retired I spent almost every week in a plane monday morning, returning usually friday, all over the place both short and long haul. Got totally fed up with it, though the airmiles and hotel points paid for a lot of first class flights and holidays. Might be ready for a bit of venturing sometime soon

We really like a variety of holidays, long haul and Europe trips we couldn’t do in the camper, just back from 2 weeks in the Azores and Lisbon, off to Boston in July and Cape Town in October. In the van we do a mix of Uk and Europe, leaving on Sunday for 5 days in St Andrews and off at the end of May for 5 weeks in France/Spain. Trying to make the most of my first year of retirement, now at the end of month one!

I was married to a BA air hostess and joined her on many long haul flights, so travelled the globe and visited some lovely places. To say I had a tailor in Bangkok gives an idea of the amount of times I was there. Then one of my postings to Army HQ saw me navigating the globe to all overseas bases and at least 2 weeks at each, before coming back to Blighty. Talk about jet lag, I did a 2 week trip down to the Falkland Islands, back to the uk for 24 hours, then to Canada for 2 weeks, back to uk for 24 hours, then Nepal 2 weeks, back uk, before returning to the Falkland again and getting caught on the Islands for 10 weeks due to the volcanic ash. When we returned to the uk, we had 24 hours before Kenya, then Brunei, back to Canada and so it continued for 2 years. Loved every second of that particular posting, but my body didn’t know if it was coming or going 🤦🏼‍♂️😄

Now I’m enjoying our country and all the wonderful, although expensive, places to explore.

Sounds a bit like it..... my worst was a major industry presentation in Singapore and then Exxon spring a mandatory contract review meeting a few days before. I got creative and booked a one world round the word ticket  Got to see clients in Korea, HKG, Japan and TW on the way back on the same ticket

UK at the moment because of circumstances - and then in quite fixed areas.

Our van is being used more as an actual mobile home where we can be where we need to be and not worry about accommodation as we have our own.

Once we are able we will be going on a cruise where all we have to do is turn up at the right place and time to board, whilst on board and then to disembark. And we still have our sights on a world cruise. The 2024 is probably too soon but 2025 maybe possible, the itineraries are quite different as well. Once the 2026 details are published we may be able to make a decision.

Had a caravan 2000 - 2005 so stayed in Britain.

Bought a motorhome in 2005 but stayed in Britain because we had a dog. Dog died in 2006 and to get the boys over the loss, we started to go abroad, usually via Harwich. Holidays became two weeks over the water and the rest in Britain. Loved the different currency and documents we had to carry, the difference languages, and the ease of crossing borders. On our first trip to France, the restaurants and cafes closed at lunchtime in the villages - that made us laugh in our rumbling tummies. When the Euro and other EU dictates came in, the awful experience in travelling abroad like cattle when we switched to Dover, and most europeans speaking English better than we did, we lost interest. Add in spending a day travelling down to the docks and another one back home became more of a drag than exciting.

Making more of our time when both still working became more important than mooing on the dock side.

I like Britain. There is a lot to do. I don't find the restrictions others do. No intention of going back to what is now the EU without the UK although one of my sons visits EU countries from time to time on work and loves it.

Things have changed since 2005. All motorhomers should travel abroad for the experiences and all motorhomers should travel around the UK.:giggle:

We would sell the van if we could only use it in the UK. We use it over here rarely to visit friends and relatives. We've been to a couple of Murvi Owners rallies and one Funsters meet at Topsham.

Across the water for us, every time. The only complication as far as we are concerned is maximising our 90/180.

The main reasons are simple - we don't like to book anything in advance, virtually impossible in the UK in the nicest places, and the change from life at home. The UK simply does not cater for motorhomers that like to move every couple of days.

I suspect the survey is somewhat skewed as people who join this forum are more involved in the hobby than others who don't take it so seriously.

A statement has been made that most motorhomers only tour in the UK. It may be true or not, I havent a clue. We have a lot of members though so could be fairly representative if enough votes are cast.
A very interesting question regardless of how absolutely representative the replies are.
We have only campervanned in UK since about 199something & have no plans to change that. But there are a few foreign places on the 'maybe' list so maybe...

Too true. You won’t find many British with enough backbone to stand up against something. We just do as we are told.
Yes you’re 110% right about time we stopped talking about things we are unhappy with! and took some action to alter the situation👍
If the idiots from stop oil and the likes can get things done, why can’t the British public stand up to get things changed ?
Oh! I have just thought about it 🤔 we are to busy moaning about it 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I holiday in the uk, I spent decades driving a truck around europe and north africa so although i like to read about other peoples travels abroad i dont want to do it myself

Only just started this adventure so I will stick yo UK. Next year I will prob go to Spain thru France. I have lots of driving experience altho in car in Spain. So feel pretty confidant of driving there. Just unsure of France as never drove there before . 🐶🐶👍🤣

I used to travel abroad a lot for work & pleasure. About 60 countries so far 🤔
For a big chunk of one 6 year spell as a field engineer, I’d travel for 3 weeks, then have a week travel free to be available for emergency customer escalations - luckily rarely required and I did rest. 🤪

If anything, all that overseas travel made me appreciate the UK more. So I’m enjoying visiting new & favourite places in the UK via a Motorhome.

Anyway, all that writing & I haven’t yet got to the anecdote your post reminded me of 🤦‍♂️
One Wednesday I was working at a London customer’s office and my employer rang to see if I could travel to assist a colleague who was having a real nightmare with his installation - on Thursday - in Peurto Rico 👀
I said yes, but don’t forget my summer holiday starts on Saturday.
I flew to San Juan via Miami.
Then went with my colleague to to visit his customer.
I assed the situation and then resolved the problem (just a DIP switch misconfigured).
I used my hotel room just long to freshen up before reversing my journey home.
All in time to fly off Saturday with mrskevenh on our hols. 🥳
