I believe that the forum may be biased towards those who travel abroad purely because they possibly joined Fun to gain information about aires, pet passports and the best way to avoid the peripherique in Paris. 🤷‍♀️
No better way to gain knowledge of experienced Motorhomers traveling in UK or Europe than join MHF but I don’t believe it’s particularly biased either way?🤔😊

Bit of both. France and Holland so far, and Belgium en route - have finally got rid of admin obligations associated with the business so will be booking a one way trip to France in September and taking it from there. Meanwhile we live 10 minutes from the nearest New Forest cattle grid so often just go out there for a brew and a read.

I think your survey is already proving that statement incorrect on the forum at least🤔
I get the impression that the result will inevitably be distorted, having rattled the cage of those who feel it necessary to point out that they always go abroad, or that they don't understand why anyone would suffer the disadvantages of motorhoming in the U.K.
(In twenty years m/homing I've never toured in the U.K.......... but that isn't relevant to the 'Some' in the OP's survey).

I think that is a very accurate observation.
I really think the typical buyer of a Motorhome buys it, and just uses it as it is supplied (so no inverters, no installation of refillable LPG systems, etc, etc) to go to campsites in the UK, and does not use Motorhome forums.
How many people who buy a car use Forums for the car they buy? I bet that is a very small number generally - but I also bet that number is a lot more for owners of cars who are also members of this (and other Motorhome) forums as that is what SOME people (me included!) like to do. I've joined a forum (since forums have been around) for the car model I own every time I have changed my car. I even still run a forum for a car model I used to own :)
It is nice to communicate and learn/share about what vehicle/MH you have. But it doesn't mean it is typical behaviour for everyone, just a select and inquistive minority.

Who in their right mind want's to restrict themselves to Motor homing in the UK. No Aires, Campsite prices through the roof, height barrier restrictions on most if not all costal car parks. Anti motorhome brigade everywhere. Terrible roads, over congested and riddled with pot holes. Wilding, virtually impossible and the only place remaining is overpriced campsite's (God help you if your pitched incorrectly by an inch or two, Jobsworth will be ready to castrate you). Europe and beyond has it all ! One only has to venture into Europe once in their motorhome to realise that the UK is still in the dark ages when it comes to how they regard Motorhomes and their user's. A bit of a useless poll IMO.
Clichéd pov
Not much :lipssealed:.

Just one year in to owning ‘buddy’ and both still working so just been the uk so far but heading to France for a couple of weeks later on this year when the works cup rugby starts.

I speak to more motorhome owners than most, No matter what the poll says, I'd say for every one who travels abroad in their van there are fifteen that don't. It's not something many want to admit. A clue is in the number of views. 2k views against 140 votes

At least the poll is producing some figures which were non existent before. The result may be biased but at least there is a result.
Its no worse than newspapers that happily publish readers surveys, even though these have a very obvious bias as people usually only read newspapers whose views broadly agree wirh their own

I think we tip the balance towards the EU and try and get 2 x 90day trips, possibly longer next time as we’re applying for the French visa.

When in the UK we try and get out as much as possible and possibly do 120 days out of the remaining 180.

If it wasn’t for ties at home I’d possibly go full time while i’ve got time left

Only UK to date, but that will change this weekend when we jump on a Ferry to Spain for 5 weeks.
Hoping for another 5 weeks overseas in Sept as well.

But where do you speak to them Jim? In Britain?! ::bigsmile: ::bigsmile:

You and I have never spoken, as I'm generally over the water in my bus ... with thousands of other suntanned, wined, garlicked, pasta-ed, escargot-ed, warm, dry, relaxed motorhomers ::bigsmile:::bigsmile:

Only UK to date, but not by choice. With a combination of Grandchild duties and me working overseas we haven’t been able to find a big enough window to make it feasible to cross the channel to date.

However, now I’ve retired, we are finally booked on a Ferry to France end of May for 3 weeks. Really looking forward to it, especially after reading loads of posts and absorbing the experiences and recommendations of other Funsters. The downside……………The couple of other Vans we are travelling with are going for 6 - 8 weeks 🤨

Off to Marazion next month for a couple of months relaxing by the sea, just read Mount's Bay filled with sewage. Makes me wonder why we stopped going to France.

I'm in Belgium at the moment tomorrow Luxembourg then to Germany then Austria then to Italy then home but I am going to a to a rally at west bay later on in the year , so spend more time abroad

Try to avoid the UK like the plague, it's so Motorhome unfriendly. Do the odd rally and festival but would rather hop across the channel and it's cheaper than staying in the UK for a week.
Tried Wales last year but that's got Motorhome unfriendly now so won't be going back.

On our way home in Northern Spain at the moment 33/34° today what's not to like.

First trips in a Motorhome we hired a couple of times in Germany. First trip in our own Motorhome after a weekend shakedown the following week on our way to the Baltic, weather looked crap turned right at Belgium ended up in Solviena. That was 2008 never looked back go abroad two or three times a year.

I'm always waxing lyrical to people about overseas travel, writing articles about how easy it is to camp in France, and how driving on the right is nothing to be scared of. But it seems the vast majority are happy to tour the UK. Fact is though, if you do talk them in to giving it a go they cross the channel at every opportunity.

I remember one Funster who we cajoled for years to get over the water. Not a chance, he was happy touring the UK, and would have none of it. Then someone talked him in to going to France, a few trips later, he ended up buying a place there to save on ferry fares! He still lives there today.

The fear of driving on the other side really puts people off I remember when I was a young 29 year old I was asking everyone I knew about driving over there. When me and the boss finally put a tent in the boot and went, there has only been one year since then when we haven't gone as we were going to the states that year.

Talking to a German at a wine festival who was a counciler in the local town. His son went to Bristol uni he was petrified of driving in the UK on his first trip he followed a coach for over a hundred miles.

We have it easy after congested UK roads it's so easy to drive over there.

Jim also has a motorhome camping site and would see many visitors who stay on his campsite.

I would rather tour abroad, weather, roads ,scenery, food,Aires. To name but a few reasons. Also feel like we've had a proper holiday seeing different cultures & everything that goes with it. My advice to anyone is if you're worried about driving on the right.... don't, if you can drive your vehicle properly you can drive it either side of the road.

I've never taken my Motorhome abroad.
Nothing to do with fear of driving on the wrong side though... crossed the channel to France quite a few times - best bit in France being the excellent Autoroutes out of there and allowing fast passage to Spain, Belgium, Luxemboug, Switzerland and Italy (all taken advantage of :D ) (as well as driving in the US who also don't know how to drive on the correct side and insist on driving on the right side, which is the wrong side, unlike us Brits who drive on the left side, which is the right side).

We are in Northern Spain too. Just North of Castellon de la plana. Only 24c here but we are on the coast so probably cooler. Back into France on Saturday and then slowly North as we have to go back on the 2lst as swmbo has a scan booked.

We are at Arguedas about 100 miles from the boarder, just came inside as it was getting chilly, checked thermometer 27 out 30 in both roof fans running.

Ferry back from Dieppe on the 5th not looking forward to it but got to be at a family do on the 7th.
