2. It’s illegal to not isolate gas tanks in a petrol station. it’s done for a reason ! That is safety.
I worked a number of years using LPG on vehicles and saw more than a few go up and when it does it’s always been because an operator hasn’t isolated the tanks before filling. Mix gas and large amounts of petrol and diesel and irt will make for a real BIG bang.
That said a reverse of a fire with LPG is the freezing factor it operates as a fluid at about -40 deg C so will burn thru flesh in a second or so and the flesh will not repair its worse than a flame burn.
Please take care with this stuff it’s not to be messed with.
I'd suggest some thermal lined ones rather than just rubber as that won't offer much protection from the 'cold' - mine have fleece linings, not perfect but better than just rubber. Thanks for that advice especially the last bit i shall put a pair of heavy duty rubber gloves on when i fill up

Thankyou. yes exactly what i was thinking off but forgive me i was being lazy in my descriptionI'd suggest some thermal lined ones rather than just rubber as that won't offer much protection from the 'cold' - mine have fleece linings, not perfect but better than just rubber.
One other safety tip, when releasing the gun do not bed over it but make sure you are at the side, when you release it there can be quite an escape of gas something you don't want to 'get you' in the face, not likely but certainly not worth the risk. If it does worry you though you could get a mask to go with your gloves, might get some funny looks though!Thankyou. yes exactly what i was thinking off but forgive me i was being lazy in my description
Tapping with a METAL key ... Think sparks ... Have you got a death wish!In the end I just did what someone else had suggested ie turned on the "empty" which has been running fine for the last 5 days. So obviously not empty but definitely seemed so when tapping it with a metal key.

I have a certain reputation on here which I assume you're not aware of so will let you off this time but I have a lump hammer which would soon shatter 'ice'.Minxy think you would be better taping it with your head if the tank is empty it’ll make the same sound as your head.

42/44litre .I just filled my 2x 11kg gaslow bottles(in Spain) and was surprised 32 litres went in!!!! How many litres do 2x 11kg bottles take?
uh oh... incomingMy fridge is on gas 24/7 even when driving
Don't care . Crash valve fitted. And my burner is fully encloseduh oh... incoming
So how long did the "empty" cylinder last for finally? Thanks all for the advice and warnings etc etc, been busy being out and about down here in Devon / Cornwall finding places to stay but also dealing with a few issues health and wife related hence the late reply.

But you don’t turn off underslung tanks ? I must have been lucky in 17yrs I’ve never turned my bottles off. I checked this with auto gas 2000 and after delivering gas in a 44ton truck I’ve done my homework but it’s just my opinionOriginal post saying that you don’t turn the cylinders off when filling

Need to make sure you use the bottles alternatively as the bottles fill together and constantly trying to fill a full one will bugger the 80% cut off valve.Close enough. I've only filled brand new ones once and it took between 42 and 44 litre to fill. These days I only ever have 1 bottle switched on and i tend to top it up every 3 weeks.
I'll try and remember that.Need to make sure you use the bottles alternatively as the bottles fill together and constantly trying to fill a full one will bugger the 80% cut off valve.
That's flecking dangerous unless you have some new fangled fridge with a balanced flue which I know you haven't.Don't care . Crash valve fitted. And my burner is fully enclosed
This van is the first one I've had though where the burner is completely encased .. so no chance of it getting blown out. Others only had an l shaped bit tin . This one is completely encased . Pain in the arse to access as I stripped it down In Turkey to clean the flu. That's flecking dangerous unless you have some new fangled fridge with a balanced flue which I know you haven't.
It's a naked flame just because it's got a bit off bent tin around doesn't make it enclosed
It's against construction and use regulations.
So you drive into fuel station with it on?This van is the first one I've had though where the burner is completely encased .. so no chance of it getting blown out. I initially just forgot to turn it off about 2 months ago but it's been on ever since .

As I said I initially forgot a few months back and since then I've just left itSo you drive into fuel station with it on?
Next time you are on my drive I'll test it with a can of petrol.
Can't you run it off 12v to save gas?Don't care . Crash valve fitted. And my burner is fully enclosed
He is lazy he would have switch the fridge over manually. Can't you run it off 12v to save gas?
Aye ...the 12v switch is on all the time too lol. Can't you run it off 12v to save gas?
Not lazy uncle lenny. The 12v switch I leave on permanently. It comes on and off with engine. I just forget to turn the gas off and on lol. Tbf apart from the last week or so I wasn't moving as often or as far each day .He is lazy he would have switch the fridge over manually.
