Think it's an old imperial weight law converted to metric.Years ago..pre 1969 if the ulw of a truck was under 3.0 ton under 21 s could drive them..BUSBY.Vans over 2 tons unladen are 10 mph slower limits on dual carriageway and single track roads I wondered if vans with windows had that limit or the motorhome limit for less than 3.05 tons unladen. Is is a bonkers way to set the limit why they don't just set it at 3500 all up like the vehicle class I don't know.
I'm sure it is but as most vehicles aren't plated for empty weight it's daft when 3500 all up is a category why not use that?Think it's an old imperial weight law converted to metric.Years ago..pre 1969 if the ulw of a truck was under 3.0 ton under 21 s could drive them..BUSBY.
Because civil Servants are lazy..Lots of old laws need abolishing..BUSBY.I'm sure it is but as most vehicles aren't plated for empty weight it's daft when 3500 all up is a category why not use that?
I don't think civil servants actually make laws, you can blame the politicians for that!Because civil Servants are lazy..Lots of old laws need abolishing..BUSBY.

He sold his Vineyard..think he winters in Caribbean now..BUSBYI don't know, he now has his own vineyard in Portugal somewhere?
He's not a bad lad, my truck company used to deliver heating oil to him when he lived in Weybridge, always had a cup of tea waiting, according to my driver's.
Yeah we visited his vineyard and his shop which is about a mile away, very nice place but yes ,he has sold it a few years ago.He sold his Vineyard..think he winters in Caribbean now..BUSBY

I would look into insurance on the DD - seen where people could not get insurance nor change class from Passenger vehicle to Motorhome once converted. We have gone a step up now, daughter has bought a double decker and says they are going to convert it. Summer holiday.
I think she's gone into it, I don't interfere with her but I will keep you informed.I would look into insurance on the DD - seen where people could not get insurance nor change class from Passenger vehicle to Motorhome once converted.
I cannot remember where I read it but do remember they were in limbo, left without classification and no insurance. I don’t know the outcome but for the sake of a call or two ?
When I sold my Coach & Bus business, I was left with a special seatbelted Metrobus D/D that no-one was prepared to pay the asking price.I would look into insurance on the DD - seen where people could not get insurance nor change class from Passenger vehicle to Motorhome once converted.

I’ve never had problems with small mini bus type vehicles but what I read was about a Double Decker so thought it worth mentioningWhen I sold my Coach & Bus business, I was left with a special seatbelted Metrobus D/D that no-one was prepared to pay the asking price.
I decided to hold on to it as it was in good condition and changed it from PSV designation to PHGV.
(BEWARE: The Bus Museum where I stored it was filled with buses with PLG in their windows, when I pointed out to the owners that PLG are for vehicle up to 3500kgs and the ULW of all D/D,'s are over 10tons, they told me that is what the Tax Office at Chelmsford had told them. It later told me the same until I questioned it with a supervisor.)
As I pointed out to the other owner, despite what anyone else tells you, YOU are responsible to make certain that EVERYTHING about you vehicle is legal.
Ignorance of the law is not a lawful excuse!
My biggest shock was how cheap the Tax & Insurance was.
In PSV mode, the Tax was £500 per year, it went down to just over a £100.
The insurance with the same broker that I had been using for 25yrs and had been charging £1000+, was £160!
It's come from a good home, so should be okay! This is it.

It's not really as ridiculous as it looks , she and her husband have 3 kids all with partners with a grandson as well plus she fosters three other kids, and they all tend to go on holiday together, in various caravans and tents and renting statics so they are all planning to go in the one vehicle instead but whether it will get done is anyone's guess. It's come from a good home, so should be okay!
Can't comment on converting one to Motorhome as I know nothing of what's involved with the DVLA but the conversation should be easy enough.

Only someone who has never converted a vehicle could say that Owen You still have to fit all the furniture, bathroom, heating, kitchen including the sink waste and clean water plus all the wiring. All units still will need scribing to the walls etcbut the conversation should be easy enough.
Yes but the room to do stuff is totally different to trying to squash everything in to a normal van.Only someone who has never converted a vehicle could say that Owen You still have to fit all the furniture, bathroom, heating, kitchen including the sink - waste and clean water plus all the wiring. And the need to pick routes with care.Only going to be limited by the sites you'll be able to get on.
About 6/7years ago I converted a 20 seater mini bus and yes more room to work in but that meant putting more stuff in Only good thing about it was he wanted a fixed bed at the rear so all the gubbings fitted under the bed including a 1000 ltr fresh water tank He only used it to take his two kids away for the odd weekendYes but the room to do stuff is totally different to trying to squash everything in to a normal van.
I bet there is more room in it than some small flats.
The legal seatbelts in the back for travelling might be a problem as the anchor points for the seats onto which the seatbelts can be attached need plating under the floor or onto the chassis .It's not really as ridiculous as it looks , she and her husband have 3 kids all with partners with a grandson as well plus she fosters three other kids, and they all tend to go on holiday together, in various caravans and tents and renting statics so they are all planning to go in the one vehicle instead but whether it will get done is anyone's guess.
And now they have taken the seats out you can see the room there is , you can fit house stuff in it.
