H M The Queen

After the 6 and half hour journey yesterday Princess Anne nimbly got out the car and managed a curtsey. Does anyone know if the cortege had any comfort stops? The helicopter pretty much seemed to shadow whole journey.
Looking at the probably unnecessary, but wise, police presence it might be too much to police a train journey. It is also possible that Royal train not in service at present and modern passenger trains not suitable - what was the last time you saw a luggage type carriage with wide openings? We couldn’t send her on a goods train! Are those pendolino ones still on that line?
A lovely thought though, of her on some sort of catafalque, behind a steam train.

Yes, they pulled off the dual carriageway at Brechin for around 30mins.
I had a look at Google Earth and it’s Brechin Castle.

Ha, ha Annie, my wife and I were saying the same yesterday, a mad scramble to get to the loo's at Holyrood House! I had thought they might stop off at some Laird's castle for a short break.

Regarding the Queen's final journey - the people of England are missing out on this, they should have been allowed to say goodbye, as we Scots were. I would have thought that the guys at York Railway museum could have got something suitable to carry the coffin, had they been asked in time.

Similarly, by car, there are shed loads of minor royal relatives that could have acted as honour guards, with suitable change over and rest points. as the convoy progressed south. The senior members could have taken over nearer London. I also think it would have been nice if, like the "rest in state" at St Gilles, a rest stop could have been done at some of England's great cathedral's e.g., York, to let the people pay their respects

Flying the queen down does appear a tad........ hurried.

I understand they removed the undertaker’s advertising from the windows during this stop

Absolutely facinated with the pomp and ceremony.
And some of the titles people have in fancy dress (i mean uniforms?)
I am sure only the Brits do it like this big time.
Lovely under extenuating circumstances.

The things that people could possibly throw down on the line though,, from whole bunches of flowers still in wrapping to Paddington Bears! A bit harder to clear up than the roads, people are not as respectful as they used to be. (A generalisation of course, I don’t mean Funsters)

I know it an odd thought, but do you believe the Queen is actually in the Coffin? It seems a great risk in todays world.

And don't forget them pesky leaves at this time of year.

Apparently that's when the Undertaker's name suddenly disappeared from the hearse.
I can only imagine someone received a "special" phone call - short, sweet, one sided and to the point ;)

Just watching the affection the Scottish military had for the half Scot the Queen of the United Kingdom, what a pity it would be for for the rest of us if Scotland ever goes Independent.

People will travel and stand in dangerous spots so they can say they were there and post it on the social media of their choice ,plus there's always the risk of a terrorist attack on the train with the world's eyes watching

Not only the uniforms and Symbols of office but the more unusual rights thats go with the office. The Lord great Chamberlain seen today for example. Has the right to dress the monarch on coronation day and give them water before and the coronation banquet. They also play a part in handing over the insignia of rule on the day too.

We will be seeing a lot more of this stuff over the next few days. Most age old and not Victorian make believe which a lot of it is.

Exactly. Not a lot have seen some of what's been happening with whom over the past days.

So lucky to be a commoner

1 service
1 interment/cremation
1 wake

To do it so many times and with little to no privacy.

And with dignity and poise

Very true they stay in the shadows bubbling away quietly and only come to light at times like this.
They also show just how intertwined and powerful the church is in our mechanisms of state.
One thing i'd be more than happy to have removed and reformed.

If they only come out every 70 years that's fine with me. I am just in awe of the pomp and ceremony.
As for the church and religion i have absolutely no interest in it.
