Gutted but it's going

So they should have been for putting you onto a pitch like that.

Did they put you back on the same pitch? If so, good luck getting off.
We are on hard standing but had to go forward to reverse....bit of operator error probably!

I have a 12 year old son and he has loved his motorhome holidays (since 2 years old). In the UK we mainly use the van for going to his weekend hobby so he sees friends there and most of them also have a van. We do use CL sites though in the winter mainly for walking he hasn't moaned too much yet about this but we did have a family join us at New Year so that helped.

We have wifi built into the van and whilst expensive its so much better than a hotspot/unwired mifi, everything connects effortlessly so he can play his switch online with friends or do school work on his laptop. He loves the fact that he can also shut the bathroom/ensuite door in the van so he can have peace in the back with his phone/ipad etc.

We take bikes and have paddle boards etc with us.

Last October we kind of became aware he wasn't as interested in our holidays as he had been- ok we were mainly wine tasting in France but he was given choices of some things to do. He chose a museum and a tourist train ride. Buying him crepes also helped.

So for this year we have booked a 'haven style" site in France for 10 days of our 3 week trip. The rest of the time we will find places to ride bikes, play in water etc. He did request to see more children on this summers holiday as in previous years we have used more adult style sites so there haven't been many children to mix with hence the site booking where there will be kids clubs and teen clubs. Previous years he's played happy for hours on the beach, in the sand and in the water.

Make sure you have the van packed with bodyboards, fishing nets, buckets, spades, bikes, paddle boards and the switch!! We won't be taking the playstation its too heavy!!

Enjoy Looe, hope it goes well.

Having a ball!!

Be fair 👍🏻It’s very late now and they went for a walk with a torch and had a look round in the dark . Yes you can use the VR headset at home but the same thing could be said about watching television in the motorhome 👍🏻. Let’s have some positive vibes here , this thread was created because the OPs son was not enjoying the motorhome lifestyle. If that’s going to change then who cares how , if the lad is happy then so is Mum 👍🏻

Good morning Funsters! I am lying looking out of the skylight above the bed...the wind is blowing but it's dry at the moment. OH and son fast asleep still...I love these quiet times in the MH. We are parked to the right side of the pitch so I need to do a quick manoeuvre later and work out getting Bud up on the levelling ramps-we seem to be pointing down hill slightly...must be because we are at the bottom of the country 🤣. I am looking forward to a day of exploring...even a game of bingo maybe tonight!!😉. Ready for a fresh coffee now...but don't want to wake anyone yet!!

With a decent van like that and only one child I’d be off to the Alps for some snow fun. With 3 people its quite easy to manage in winter and with ski gear, we are usually 5 people and that’s tough in the van in those conditions. But the snow might not be a bad idea.

Beyond that our lot just enjoy anything outdoors when we’re away although we do favour decent weather. We avoid TV, wifi and devices etc when we‘re away as we prefer them to be head up with life and not head down and into screens, they soon get used to it.

Sounds like you’re making great progress though.

We don't really want him to have his tech but I think that we are striking a happy medium for now.

I would much rather he has the tech and you keep the van . Rather than the original option which was he has the tech at home and you sell the van ! This is a great story to read. I am over the moon it’s going so well . My eldest son is about the same age and we do allow the VR to be taken away in the van but the funny thing is now , he never uses it . We have the best conversation and time together when we are away . Well done to you for making this work👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Why can’t he have one good tech, it could make all the difference and you could limit the time playing with tech to go out and do other things.
I agree with Swifter rather he has his toys and you keep the van!
I also can’t see why he is too young to have a pup tent beside the van, most kids will kill for their own bit of space!

To be fair since we arrived he has used his VR when he has been waiting to go out...yesterday we hopped on the bus to Looe and had a few hours there, he played basketball with some kids from the site and pool with Dad. Today we have a swimming pool slot for an hour. Bit blowy for a pup tent and he likes his drop down bed!!

It does sound as tho he got the hump with the van after a couple of quiet breaks, probably on CL or CSs that don’t hold any interest for children also weather can make a big difference!
I wouldn’t be too quick to dump the van as in a few years he won’t want to holiday with you, he will have his own thoughts!
Make a deal with him, some breaks are for you adults and some are just for him-alternate them!

That’s what we need, positive, helpful comments. They are trying desperately to get their child to enjoy motorhome trips. If the VR helps to this why knock it.
I haven’t been able to offer any helpful ideas so didn’t. I also didn’t knock what they are trying. Perhaps you could do the same.
I’m just glad they have managed to get away and the youngster looks to be happy to be there.
Well done to the parents, hope this is the start of your child enjoying motorhome trips.

Well I assumed he had his VR machine on the last trips, and there have been so many constructive suggestions for other activities.

What has changed that makes him happy with his VR on this trip. Or maybe he was not allowed to take it? Could that have made him grumpy?
