Gutted but it's going

Just a thought this van isn't similar to the one that's burnt down recently?
Could be a match of great kindness get more than trade in and help out a fellow mhf.

Just a thought......
If you're talking about haganap , Paul and Nikki live in our village! Small world. Such lovely people who I visited when we first bought ours. Really hoping that we don't decide to sell...but if we do they know where we are.

The Dune du Pilat is a good way to burn calories. Some of those beaches have a strong undertow so not a place for unsupervised 11 year olds. I remember being beaten black and blue by my surfboard down that way fifty years ago. Half a century ago! Suddenly I feel very ancient.

just came back from Tesco's and saw your van in the layby. surely you've not been away in this weather

Sorting it out in the summer holidays will be easy, go away for 8 weeks, drive through Italy , get on a ferry to kefalonia Greece, it is a lovely big ( ish ) island with enough to discover spreaded over a 4/5 week period, Cristal clear seas which are one of the best in Europe for snorkelling , it will open his eyes……

We are restricted to 2 weeks 🤣...

I do hope the weather brightens up for you… it’s diabolical at the moment! Where did you decide to go in the end?

Looe, Cornwall. A site with an indoor pool, games room, all weather basketball and bus stop right outside. BMX, scooter, balls all in garage! Adrenaline Quarry nearby which we all like the look of.

I remember being just down the road from the Dune, at a place called Arcachon, 2mtrs from the beach, not being able to touch the bottom and swimming against the current and staying in the same place, it would be very easy for someone who was not confident in the water to be swept away, I don’t recall any warning signs but it was in the mid 80's so may be more safety and or life guards there now.

Edit: I seem to remember that much of the beach there was for Naturists so possibly not a good place to take an 11 year old unless that's your thing as a family 😀

thats what you need. My kids were no different at that age, hated it. We had to adapt and make sure they had swimming pools games and pretty much everything.

Crikey! The weather is going to be against you again but I guess you know that.

Anyway, you’re committed now so I hope everything goes well and your son enjoys himself. Be careful driving as it’s still blowing a hoolie. 🙂

The weather looks mixed and we know from experience that it can change quickly down there. Setting off tomorrow and will take it easy. He's happy as he has unlimited wifi. Fingers crossed.

Personally I would have waited for the spring/summer especially given your son’s views on the MH.

Anyway as there’s indoor facilities it should go well for you. Is your other half looking forward to going away now? I seem to remember you saying that he wasn’t too keen.

Let us know how you get on. 🙂

Not going anywhere while this wind is howling...Cheshire east is very blustery. Watching M6 and M5 traffic reports. 🙈

Thank you for your considered response. I agree that the times that we have been away it has been cold, wet etc and we had a few minor issues. It must seem grim to him. I don't know what to do ☹
I think if you're going away and its cold wet and windy most enthusiast motorhomers would struggle.

A good holiday in the sunny south west France on a child friendly campsite plenty of activities for a few years until he's old enough to do his own thing at least means you keep the van.

Having had 4 boys we kept our caravan at the time they were not keen until they got to make a few friends on site. Amazingly they then didn't want to come home.

Personally I would not give in so easily. Make it an adventure. Before you know it they will have flown the nest and you have the van still and a bucket full of good memories.

Rule your own world.

Enjoy.

Don’t blame you - it’s been shocking all night here and expected very windy for the next few day - no fun out in that!

We did a kayak trip to the south of France and one child went to a different school, was a new member of the club and his parents were a little concerned. I suggested they see how it went for the first two or three days and if it wasn't working out they could move on, only paying pitch fees for the nights they were there (dirt cheap). The first evening he was very quiet but big eyes taking it all in and being included. The second night he joined in the banter and 2 weeks later he said to his Mum:

"Can we come back next year? To exactly the same place with all the same people?" Unfortunately it wasn't to be but he'd had a brilliant time.

I should add that he went to a different school as he was disabled. a wheelchair user and had learning difficulties. His Mum told me later that the holiday had opened not only her son's eyes but also theirs and they realised they could let go a little and let him explore his own boundaries albeit in a very safe environment.

Is he interested in WW2 stuff like the Battle of the Bulge. etc ? If so, a trip to Luxembourg would be a nice short hop. Nice bike ride Bastogne to Wiltz railway line, and lots of war paraphernalia. Motor racing circuit at Spa is on the way. Just pencilling in a third trip, this time in Oct for the autumn colours and some walking.

My son when he was 5 or so, due having an odd may school holiday, went round the vans that remained on site asking if they would be his freind I doubt he got much change from a group of retirees!!

Can’t help with the lad I’m afraid but if the motorhome home is automatic and you’d like it to go to a well deserving home where it would be loved and used to is full ability and A price I can afford then I’m your man 👍🏼

If you get down to looe then I’m not far and can come over and do a deal…😎

You could spend the money on something he will enjoy…😉

I’m serious and it’s a win win for both of us… 😊

I’d even let you borrow it now and again if the price is right.. 🚐

I'd ask him if he liked board or card games and invite him to play over in his own van. :)

Ambilkate knows that Amanda and I love to play when we get together.
