Gutted but it's going

Not got that one - use a 5577 usually, but it should be ok! (y)

One with a small screen gives you a bit more info on the signal received, etc….

Reading this thread it makes me realise how fantastic the Yorkshire Shepheardess is bringing up 9 kids out there on that farm..Had a neighbour when I was a kid,,17 kids,,16 boys 1 girl ,,happy as Larry,, They could not afford holidays but always seemed happy..BUSBY.

So the biggest question is ….

will you be keeping the Moho and what do you think will work best as a family while out and about.

I will let you know next Saturday 😉. I have appreciated the mostly supportive comments and raised an eyebrow or two at others. I joined MH Fun to get advice and support.

Broken Link Removed
Found this one too...
we have used this for a few years, but an unlocked one, worked fine for 3 teenagers and 2 recycled teenagers. It's ok abroad too, but wont be so good now we have roaming charges again.

With regard to mifi's you want one that's not locked to a network ie comes without a sim card and get your sim card separately so now, and in the future, you can change network providers as your requirements change and or better deals become available. The first mifi you linked to is cat 4 and will work okay, but cat 7 is better if you find one within your budget, the one i'm using is currently £54.95 on amazon.

HUAWEI E5783-230 (Black) 300Mbps CAT 7 4G/LTE Travel Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot. Will work with Any Sim Card Worldwide. Connect 16 Wireless devices. No configuration required (Renewed) Amazon product ASIN B08PBX2QN1
With regard to using it in Cornwall check which providers give the best coverage in the area your going to and look at buying a sim card on a rolling 30 day contract so you can cancel at short notice should you want to.

Glad to help, you may have noticed it says no configuration required, this is true if you are using a main provider, Vodafone, EE, O2 etc. However if you use a reseller eg Tesco mobile, Superdrug etc. It may require configuring manually, if you need help getting connected, pm me and I'll try and explain what you need to do.

Looks like EE has good coverage in Cornwall

Through all this WiFi talk ,I have kept out of it, as others know better than me but we used to have one of the older ones but with the advent of smart phones we found we could just as easily use the hotspot on those pretty much as good as the dongle and never use it anymore, all on one sim no need for any other.
If you have two phones on different networks , twice as good as if one doesn't work maybe the other one does.
That's what we have found anyway.

Think very carefully about buying a safari room - expensive, a pain in the b*m to put up/take down, heavy, and (probably) not used……IMHO!;)
We have a couple of awnings - one a drive away and one a porch type. Depending on where we are going and what we are intending to do we take one or the other - rarely both! I know lots of people say they have them and don't use them but we do use ours a lot and especially if we have the grandson(s) with us as it becomes a play room. If we are kayaking we can hang wet gear in there to dry. It's surprising how warm it can get in the awning and with a gentle cross breeze gear dries very quickly.

Edit: Our awnings are both the Sunncamp make. The bigger "drive away" one needs two people to put it up but the little awning can be put up by one person. We usually attavh it to the van when we put it up but if we have driven away usually don't re-attach when we get back.

Another edit: we found that if each of the children had a responsibility that was all theirs (eg checking fresh water tank levels at specified times and also being responsible for ensuring an adult was notified when it needed refilling and helping with that) they were less likely to moan. Also they each had a printed map (remember those???) and took it in turns to choose our next stop and the route. We found some interesting places that way - including Wroxeter Roman City and when in Ireland a lead soldier manufacturer!!!!!

We also taught all the kids how to check fluid levels, coolant, brake fluid, screen wash, oil and how to top each up and with what. They were also shown where to find tyre pressure info and how to inflate tyres.

Yep when you post on here you will always get a few who offer little in the way of solutions and just like to have a pop.
Don’t really know why? Maybe they are seeking attention that they missed out on as a child!! ::bigsmile:

I actually am jealous of the yorkshire “shepherdess” and think she has a marvellous life, ( jealous is a strong word)but it is a way of life i would have happily taken on and enjoyed ;
grasmere obviously has a “bit o’brass” and wants her son to be happy, and has come on here for a bit of a chat and advice ,about where to go to entertain an 11 year old,who hasnt got a few hundred acres to roam around on and a dozen brothers and sisters to play with, tractors to drive, ponies to ride,
i hope you create some great memories for your lad grasmere, and the storm has gone by the time you get to looe .are there any tin mines there? two of my lads have always wanted to go down a mine,
best regards pampam

🤣 I love your reply! A bit o'brass 🤔....not really but you're right about not having acres to play on, tractors etc. Sadly he is an only child and I do want to do my very best for him. He's a good kid, growing up in a very different world to the one his Mum and Dad grew up in.

We have just one son - much older now, but when we started camping he was about 10. We pretty soon realised that things worked much better if we either took one of his friends or went to bigger campsites with lots of activities available. Within a very short time he would be off making friends/taking part in activities with other kids of his age. Some 25 years later we still have contact with a French family we made friends with through our son’s friendship with their son!
Good luck!

Personally I would wait until the good weather, pick places you will all enjoy and perhaps take along a friend of his for company sometimes. I wouldn’t give up your motorhome and dream.:giggle:

Killhope Wheel is brilliant - it's a lead mine. My kids loved going there. (Durham Dales). Not far from Alston and the heritage railway, lots of walking and industrial archeology in what is now a serene landscape. Then I found my relatives farmed very nearby in the early 1800s and their house is still there and occupied. Plus some of that side of the family were locally famous in a good way!!!

Here's another idea ...... do Center Parcs do day tickets? If you park up at say Longleat you could have a day in the pool at Centre Parcs. We went to Sunparcs in Belgium a few times and they did day tickets. We would get a table to act as HQ and the adults would take turns to sit there for an hour - kids all over the place but had to "report in" every 20 mins and get drinks etc.

Evening everyone. Today I popped over to our storage and brought "Bud" home. I do love driving our N&B...got it home and parked up outside our house. The Mifi arrived today so we set that up and connected son's devices. Set aside one cupboard next to his drop down bed for treats and his tech. So far so good. BMX, scooter, basketball and football all in! Thank goodness for garages 🤣...Anyway, tomorrow I will pack everything in and we go south on Monday! Thanks for all the support.

Safe trip and (more importantly) ENJOY!!!! Keep us posted please. You've created a lot of interest (y)

Its hard at times with an only child, we had just the one as well. I remember the holidays to Lanzarote and Tenerife to those all inclusive hotels with a children's club, he'd have a look in through the door and we'd go through that "will he, won't he" moment, then he'd be away and that would be the last we'd see of him until later in the day. We had to tear him away to take him to see other things, such as the zoo or the bird park which he thoroughly enjoyed. Not our type of holiday but it worked a treat for him.
We did semi-touring with car in Europe, stay a few nights in one place and then move on - went to a Salt Mine and did the Alpine Coasters so many times that I think we were all relieved when we'd had enough.
Took a friend with him up to Alton Towers for his 13th birthday, stayed at the hotel and thoroughly "did" the park.
All our holidays were geared around him and what he'd like to do, we were a group of 3, I sometimes miss those days, but there will be other memories to come I'm sure as he's 29 now and getting married this year, and then who knows what will happen next.

Enjoy the time spent with him even if its not what you would do on your own, in a few years you'll look back and remember what a great time you had as a family.

A visit to the camping and caravaning club site at drayton manor worked well for us whilst tugging with the kids they loved it and only a short way from the tamworth snowdome so do both in one long weekend been back several times since with the camper.

If you do find yourself near Biscarrosse (as mentioned in a previous post) don't miss the opportunity to take your son to the dune de Pilat. A full day that's guaranteed to tire him out.

That looks awesome!!

Our grandchildren at about 10 began a very real interest in film making in those inbetween hours in the motorhome. I have some terrific videos on my camera! One of the first was called” how to live in a Motorhome”!

Just a thought this van isn't similar to the one that's burnt down recently?
Could be a match of great kindness get more than trade in and help out a fellow mhf.

Just a thought......
