Gutted but it's going

We are meant to be going away next week... help me please to come up with a great plan to present! We are based in Cheshire and have 6 days. I am getting snow blind with Search for Sites!! I really want this to happen.
How about a Harry Potter adventure trail. Visit the places where HP movies were filmed throughout the UK?

We actually visited this place in Macon in 2018 but he was too young to do anything. He's taller and older now so definitely looks a good idea. I had forgotten all about it. What is RH&D railway? Forgive my ignorance!
I noted this had been covered.
Just come to Kent in August, sure MH funsters in this area will have update info to pass on
Smallest public railway, steam trains ect, MHF we had organised several meets, threads on funsters site.

The weather is going to be against you anywhere in the UK in February, but North Wales is close to you in Cheshire, and a trip to ZipWorld would create some adrenaline.

As well as the zipwires, there is also an underground trampoline park. Could also combine with a trip up Snowdon on the mountain railway. None of the above are cheap though.

This does look fun. He loves a trampoline park.. thanks

This is all getting very deep and involved now, when all that is needed is to ask the lad what he wants to do and find something along that line, rather than going through all this stuff that you think he should like and then getting upset because it isn't what he wants.

Whatever you decide to do, you must get unlimited data via a MiFi so he can get online! At least that way if the weather is against you he’s got his PlayStation! My husband wouldn’t go if I couldn’t guarantee tv as well! 😂

He did love Harry Potter...I wonder if there is anything happening at the castle?

i wasnt just thinking of the castle, i was thinking of visiting the big train bridge in scotland, the beach where dobby died, there are a couple of places in london - kings cross platform 9 3/4, the phone booth that is the entrance to the ministry etc - would involve a bit of planning and train travel into london, but you could visit a few places as part of a bigger trip? there are a couple of theme parks close to london ...?

it would be fun planning it and he could find locations by doing a bit of 'digging' on the web ?

I once took a Girlfriend Camping she said it made her feel dirty ! No way was I going to compromise being ‘out there’ for anyone so she was rejected by the following week (Harsh but true). When I met my wife we were out and about her hair got wet, when we got back to the car she just used the hot air vent to dry her hair the best she could ( I was smitten and new she was the one) and we have spent a life time camping walking hiking traveling and now a Motorhome but will use a tent as needed
Yes very true, when I was out with Caz walking she needed the loo and nipped into a bush.
I just knew she was the one after that.

All views, opinions and ideas welcome. I have been on Pitch up and found a selection of sites that have loads to do.. a very nice one called Portavadie loch Fyne. Going to get him involved tonight choosing. Fingers crossed.

Yes, that's the one we had - it works well but there's a newer version available.

Good ideas there.

I was at the beach where Dobby died on Sunday and it was blowing a gale.

The C&CC club site at Chertsey is nicely positioned for London and Thorpe Park.

We went to Chester to a CL...it poured down all weekend. The Lakes....it poured down and we sprang a leak..fixed under warranty and ran out of gas (rooky mistake), my sisters racing yard in Newmarket.
To be fair I wouldn't want to go either.
Share the destinations out bit I mean strewth "Chester?? the Lakes? a horse yard??
Go in the sun, let him take a mate, go somewhere that might hold appeal to an 11 year old.
I would try that before quitting because you 11 year old is not enamoured by your choice of destination.

MiFi....would this work?
Broken Link Removed
That one is likely locked to EE, if you look on ebay you can get a new unlocked one for around £50 and then find the best unlimited sim only deal for yourself. I'm currently using tesco mobile as i think it's currently the best uk sim for European roaming but other providers may suit you better.

So true,,BUSBY.

Bribery works! Electric scooter, hover-board, electric mountain bike, legal size drone, petrol Honda "Monkey Bike" for you but with 2 helmets, take his girl friend? Anything but don't sell it!

I’m sure this has all been said, but it’s important to do things he will like to win him over. Thoughts:

Llandegla mountain biking centre is close to you. We live nearby and it’s fab. We recently used it to win over a recalcitrant 12 year old who came to stay.

Make sure you have plenty of Wi-Fi googlybits so he is not cut off.

If you want to venture further into N Wales then Aberdarron at the end of the Llyn peninsula is one of our favourites. Mynydd Mawr campsite is right at the end of the road and fab for walks, beach etc. a couple of pubs in the village and a great fish and chip shop. National Trust do some great ranger led walks over the coastal path. There is a good walk to the coastguard station at the top of the hill. Whistling Sands/Porth Or is an amazing beach ten mins from Aberdarron with sand that quite literally whistles/squeaks as you walk on it.

It’s a good three hours from you but you could break the journey at Llandegla for biking, Rhug farm shop for bison burgers and look at the bison, Llandudno - toboggans on the Great Orme, Greenwood Forest Park (great “green” theme park which is fab for kids his age), Conwy Castle, Caernarfon castle, Go Ape at Haven in Pwllheli, Abersoch for boats and beach.

No visit to N Wales is complete without taking in a game at the Cae Ras, the oldest international football stadium in the world, and home to Wrexham AFC, the third oldest club in the world - and now owned by Hollywood megastars!

Many of the attractions are great at this time of year too. NB I don’t work for the N Wales tourist board, I’m just lucky enough to live in the best place on earth!

I really hope you win him over. It’s tough being eleven. Sitting in the back of the Moho is not as much fun as sitting up front where the view is better.

Eleven year olds aren’t as smelly as teenagers, but why not let him have a pop up tent next to the van? That can be fun and different too.

Pob lwc and let us know how it goes.

Years ago ,five kids, grandma and her two terriers, me and hubby in an ex army canvas tent, had a great time at whitby, the kids still talk about it being a good time, but i think it was more because there was 5 of them perhaps take one of his pals, get the barbeque out,get the bikes/scooters out, football, take them shopping and tell them they can have what they want for tea,but they are choosing from the shop and cooking it . but youll wash up for them .like everyone else has said ,ask him what he fancies ,get him well involved, you might be surprised….dont sell till youve had a summer out of it…good luck pampam

Looks like you’re getting some good ideas, we always tried to do something we wouldn’t do at home when abroad in the van. I thought having a daughter she wouldn’t want to do anything to scary but I’ve created a adrenaline junkie 😂😂, some of the things we’ve done.
White water rafting in Bovic Slovenia
Paragliding over lake Annecy in France
Rock climbing in the Dordogne France
Abseiling in the Dordogne France
Kayaking in the Loire France
Skiing in Glencoe Scotland
Go-Ape in several locations
Bungee jumping in Scotland (this has to be the scariest of them all)
Sophie has went on to do a lot more including a parachute jump in Hawaii, scuba diving in Thailand and surfing in Australia.
She still says doing all these things while motorhoming gave her the confidence to travel and try new experience's.

Here’s somewhere closer to home, your son could try some of these and you can have a spa at the same time so win win.

We went there last year. Did the long zipline. Incredible! Loved it. (no kids - we were all around the 60 yr old mark! ) We then went on to a nice little CL near Snowdon and walked up there.

I have three sons and they loved going away in the motorhome, however we always thought of them first as if theyre happy, so were we.
Always stayed on sites with pools etc, mainly in France in the summer, though my preference is always as remote as possible. In the winter we went to Scotland where they could play in the snow (rare in southern England)
We had to find room for all sorts of things we wouldnt normally need, a large inflatable boat for if there was a suitable river, many bikes handheld games consoles just as well we had never heard of weight limits then.

After some very lengthy discussions we have decided, reluctantly, to sell our Niesmann and Bischoff Arto 69gl. It is beautiful but it's not working for us as a family. So if anyone is interested in a 2005 Niesmann and Bischoff Arto 69gl with 1 previous owner and is ready to go on adventures please get in touch. I am so sad it's painful writing this. It was my dream but I can't see it happening for us. 😥

So what price are you looking for?

I hope you decide to keep the MH.

Using it to visit sites where there is lots to do might help. If he loves a bit of adventure then try the River Dart Country Park, which has a lovely site and masses of tree and water-based activities for free. Brilliant, especially with a friend.

Our kids adored being on the yacht, even in the rain. We’d play cards, bananagrams, boggle, monopoly, or read, learn to tie knots…anything that was different to being at home. We often didn’t have wifi. The MH is smaller, but far more accessible and better equipped too.

Perhaps one or two damp nights in a rain-soaked tent in a gale might change his mind when he can come into the warm, dry and welcoming MH.

As others have said, he’s 11. He has a lot to learn and is not yet equipped to dictate major decisions for the rest of the family.

Good luck and stick with it.

Hope you can spare a minute to let us know how the discussion went.
Would be a terrible shame to give up just on the basis of 3 wet trips to nondescript places in the winter.
Please let him take a friend to somewhere warm where there are more kids things to do and gradually work in some of your cultural stuff.
When our kids were young we made sure they all had their own day when we all did what they wanted to do in turn and it always worked fine.
But please don't give up on the van on a whim.

Check Chertsey. Think it is due to close for renovation. CAMC site at Abbeywood is a short walk to trains to London Bridge

We have 10 grandsons, aging from 6 to 18. When we take them away we choose our sites with things for them to do. 11 yr olds get bored very quickly. There are sites with lots for kids to do, but if he struggles to make friends, and he has no one to go off with i can see why he maybe unhappy. Its a hard choice if its your dream. Butt i expect he used to flying on lovely lively all inclusive hols. So if you want to keep him happy i get it. You only have your kids a short while so make happy hols. You can always come back to motorhoming in few yrs.
