Guinea pig part 2

This thread will be extremely useful. Good luck and thanks for keeping us informed.

We made it through, just having a G&T at Neufchatel en Bray. NO fines, (showed the french border guard the NHS lateral flow, he was quite happy), only about 20 vans in the double decker, only one was a camper. NO FOOD ISSUES, we are stuffed with contraband (bacon, sausages, steak, spag bols!). In fact the UK terminal was nearly empty, we were the only van in the MH waiting area. So we'll stay here a few days, nice walks etc, then off darn sarth. Sigh of relief.

Well done and enjoy. So you used the NHS, do they email/text the result? I thought lateral flow tests were to be used at home?

On route negative tests done stuck in traffic near Milton keynes

The like was for the negative test not for being stuck in traffic.

It says on the website not the NHS tests ..... but if they are happy with those it makes things easier for people.

When I do mine (twice a week as part of the community monitoring programme) I give the result on the website and tell them it is negative. They then email and text me to say it is negative!

Sshh. We had it done at a pharmacy. They texted the result. The cv info on the ET website, is full of dire warnings. it certainly is Project Fear. The UK passport kiosk, the police, the French passport were all very freindly, even the French guy. It all stems from the government. I've followed all the rules, with knobs on. This is over the top. I can see it is a bad idea to spread the latest variant, but it seems to me that there will be continuous new variants. We've had double vacs (thanks very much) and life in a low risk area, one of the lowest, and are travelling to an even lower risk area in France. They will not keep the populace in line if the Gov overdoes it.

Are there additional customs posts when you leave the train at Coquelles or is it still as before the checks are in the UK and you just drive off at the other end?

They just asked if we had had them. I printed out my private info from my doctor's practice, but to my chagrin it did not say who it was for. But we had our scrappy NHS card, they were happy with that. Although they did not ask to see it. TBH, I think they are not sure themselves. Just earnest answers seemed to satisfy them.

You just drive straight off, as before. There seemed to be an additional kiosk before you got on, or maybe there was never anyone there before. The UK passport said you have to stop at the next kiosk, next door, who I think were UK police, then the French who asked to see the UK to France forms. No one asked for the "Statement of honour" form. Which we had signed, of course. But then I noticed that we still had the hour form unfilled from last year.

Thinking about it when we crossed into Spain yesterday we didn't show our vaccination record or anything else.

Could we hope that some reality pill s are being taken?
I think so. Or maybe limited staff. The place was almost deserted. Few customers, and even less staff.

They are now allowed for entry in to France from any country . They have always been used for entry in to the UK whether by train, boat or plane.
What i meant was they were for home use and you would not get a text of the result like you do when you go for the PCR one at the testing station.

Can I ask for someone who hasn’t lived in the U.K. for17 years or visited for 3 years .. what is the obsession with bacon and sausages ? Surely the idea is to experience other things . Have travelled extensively in the world and never felt bereft if bacon or sausages . Cambodia , Vietnam , Brunei just ate local food . Is that not one of the reasons to travel ?

I have to agree to some extent, I have lived away from the UK for 4 years and not been back for a year and a half. I saw in my local supermarket a packet of 'English Bacon' did I buy it? No, because I think English Bacon and English Sausages taste best in England. Here and when I travel I eat local, although I have to admit the local 'Deep fried Pigs Ears' are not to my taste, I have of course tried them.

I do yearn for Roast Beef and all the trimmings, Yorkie Pudding and horseradish sauce, roast tatties and gravy, as here we are a pork based meat diet. Although I have to admit to going a bit veggie in my later years....

We have bacon for breakfast about three times a week at home, and have been known to take a bit with us to tide us over the first day or two, but never felt the need of loads and quite happy with what we can get in France. (y)

Yeah, but you ain't camping if you don't have bacon and sausages. Saying that you ain't camping if you are running around in a van worth tens/hundreds of thousand either.

OK, I was concerned because there was nothing locally available on the internet sites, the reviews were mostly saying anything listed was a spam site, I felt I could not be sure of anything having read the problems people were having getting reliably quick results. So I phoned around locally, asking would they be able to text or email results. I found a pharmacy just down the road, booked an appointment, and had the results shortly after. When the results arrived, it said NHS on the top. I took the risk, showed that to Frenchy, he was happy. Result

It's what you know, and it's good. If we had good Toulouse sausages, or Marguez, we'd long for that. It's just a joke. I'll get some of the latter two when I get down there, and take some back, wondering why don't they do this back home. As for bacon, well, it's bacon, ain't t?

I think you'd probably have been O.K. as there isn't any meat in Humble Pie.

The original umble pie was made from the umbles ie the offal and intestines of deer and was reserved for the most lowly at medieval banquets. As such would not be permitted for entry into France.

Better not take sausages back to Englandshire as you will get arrested lol

When i first went skiing 40+ years ago as a young lad, it was just me and some mates, we went into the local shop and bought some very expensive bacon for our breakfast (self catering). When we cooked the said bacon it was very hard and fell to pieces. We had fried Parma ham

French bacon ain't bacon, anyway. And Danish is mostly water. I quite like French lomu. Don't know how to spell it. It's what you're used to. With Toulouse you're picking your teeth for hours. Merguez, it's different wherever you buy it. British bangers vary too. If it's made by Rich*ond, it's mostly water and fat, and lord knows what else. Local butchers ... ours are great, pork, leek, and cider. Yum. In our freezer, now!

Makes you wonder, what is?

Makes you wonder, what is?
And it makes me wonder
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the sausages you're on

Ah, but when you do a free NHS lateral flow home test you are invited to submit the result to the Govt/NHS website. Every single test has a reference number which also has to be entered, along with all of your personal details inc NHS number. When the information has been completed and submitted, both an official NHS email and a text come back confirming your negative test result (assuming it is ;) ).

See example below:

NHS

Dear xxx
Birth date – xxx
Test date: 08 June 2021
NHS Number: xxx
Your coronavirus lateral flow test result is negative. It’s likely you were not infectious when the test was done.
Keep following coronavirus advice including:
  • regular handwashing
  • social distancing
  • wearing a face covering where recommended
Self-isolate if:
  • you get symptoms of coronavirus – book a different test at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
  • someone you live with tests positive, or has symptoms
  • you’ve been traced as a contact of someone who tested positive
Reporting your results
It is important that you keep reporting all of your test results, whether they are positive, negative or void.
Reporting every test result:
  • helps the NHS to monitor the spread of the virus
  • helps scientists learn more about the virus
  • provides more accurate data that saves lives
  • supports people and communities across the UK
If you’re doing daily contact testing at work and are well, you can work today. If all your required daily tests are negative, you can stop testing.
For medical help, contact 111. In an emergency dial 999.

Arrived at the euro tunnel, booking in was easy, french asked for proof of negative test which we showed them on our phone they DID accept the little vaccination cards and did not ask for anything else, I offered the declaration but they just waved us through
Not asked nor checked for any sausage
No checks whatsoever.
Let me make this clear, the whole process was little different from normal, easy.
The terminal is very very quiet apart from a few Romanian live animal transports??

Brilliant mate, you have me itching to book now, same as we did last year when suavecarve posted something similar, but for some reason even though we have both jabs I am a bit more reticent.
