Globecar Modifications

Cheers John, I don’t turn the gas off very often but it will be handy for swapping over bottles. Off to eBay.

Today I’ve fitted Heosafe locks to the cab doors and made a set of pads for my levellers out of an old scaffold board.

The second mod I’ve done is to fit an isolation switch to the water pump because when drained down and taps left open for the colder weather I’ve turned the 12 volt control panel on and the pump as been running dry, now I can isolate the pump.

Finally got around to fitting an isolation switch to our pump.
Much easier than taking out the fuse
Old van had van had a switch as standard on the control pannel
Fitted switch at rear next to the lifting bed control

@lorger I got them from EBay the seller sold them complete with sliding and rear door locks which I have not fitted yet.
I paid £85 for the complete set of 4 locks, the German sellers on EBay are selling for more than £240 the same set.

John.

They are the awning winder, awning centre raft, and 2 poles for my awning sides which are just clipped to the woodwork.

John.
And the clips are?

I was thinking of fitting a piece of new soil pipe in same place for similar poles.

The winder and the rafter pole came with clips, and the awning poles I bought spring clips off eBay.

Is that difficult and or expensive?

Not on the Maxi chassis. You cant go to 4500KG on the standard chassis

You can take the std Maxi Chassis to 4500kg, It’s now plated at 4500kg with no mods at all. It was done by JR Consultancy.

I think the standard 3500kg Chassis can only go to 3850kg without mods.

You do need to be careful on axle weights though if your anywhere near the 4500kg.

John can you help me with how to install a switch like yours
Regards
Simon

Hi Simon I traced the wires from the pump and cut the positive wire and soldered extra length wires from where I cut it and fitted on off switch at the end of the extended wires if you understand it just makes and breaks when you use the switch.

it looks like an illuminated switch so I'm guessing 3 pin?

Having been in commercials vehicles all my life I understand the system. I requested the maximum legal up plate. Many companies are not over happy up plating to this as axle weights become very tight indeed near the max weight limit. But as I requested this they have done it. In reality a 4250 weight is just as usable as I would prob exceed an axle weight before getting to 4500 but it’s what I wanted. To me once your over 3500kg (ie you have lost the 3500kg benefits) you may as well go as high as you can.

Today I’ve removed the main light from our Globecar because it was not bright enough, and I replaced it with a more modern light with 4 different settings.
I’m also going to fit one which is half the size over the cab and bedroom area’s. When completed I’ll post the rest of the pictures.
John.
Just fitted one in the main light position. I went for the cold white, which is more of a white than blue or yellow light. The thing I like is that it switches on automatically when the panel is turned on, but it may not suit some people.
Im considering getting one for the bed area also.

You can get an extra 100kg on the rear axle on the maxi if you have the correct tyres.

I picked our van up today from SAP Doncaster after they fitted hydraulic levellers to it, can’t wait for next trip to have a play.

Hi John,
out of interest, what is the maximum “lift” you get on a corner with the EP hydraulic levels?
i have a set of Milenco Triples, which give a 4cm/8cm and 12 cm lift and am interested on whether you get more.
and what is the weight? 60kg(ish) ?
thanks
Gerry

@gerry mcg hi Gerry I haven’t had the levellers at maximum height but our drive is quite steep and I’ve had the rear up on Milenco quatros and there was more lift to go.

The EP rams are double piston in each leg and total weight was quoted as 65 kg.

I think they are the best thing we’ve had on our van as recently in Benidorm one night we had really heavy winds but our van never rocked one bit.

If I remember tomorrow I’ll take them to their maximum and let you know.

Another mod today I’ve fitted a speaker bar underneath the cupboards over the table as the speakers in our flat screen tv are rubbish especially when playing a dvd.
The sound now off the tv has been transformed.
