Generator

my van has solar and a b2b charger so fully independent from needing ehu. I do however carry and use a honda eu20i to charge 2 mobility scooters. despite the medical need and trying to use it discretely and sympathetically we get complaints from some people
generators are not popular

Has anybody built a sound proof box or something and how successful is it.

the generator needs freeflowing air for combustion and cooling. i had one inside a box trailer once with vents and the exhaust ducted outside. was nearly as loud as being outside and overheated in the summer

You are going to need a bloody big generator to produce enough electricity to keep you warm in the winter. You will probably need a towbar.
Don’t you think a 1.5 kw gennie will power a small heater?
3kw will do it, its a motorhome not a block of flats

Anyway I ended up with one of these....

haha, love it. Now you mention it my MH has a tow bar, what was I thinking? ?

@Drifter as a few others have suggested get B2b charger, they combined with a decent battery bank and some solar make a great setup, and you don't have to store the Genny PLUS the fuel for said Genny c/w the smell / risk of carrying said fuel.
I've got a b2b setup and works well for us.
If you point me in the direction that can compete or just about do what a genie can, I’d be delighted to avoid the noise etc

Using a generator for heating sounds very inefficient to me. Expensive fuel with VAT and road duty to start with, then half the fuel wasted by the running a hot engine to drive a generator of questionable efficiency. Why bother, you can buy refillable bottles at about the same price as a generator and the lpg fuel is half the price of petrol. On top of this most of the lpg can be turned into useable heat.

Ok to save any further arguments I’m trading MH in for this and buying a tent and a 90 inch plasma ?

Are we getting any closer to deciding if the screw fix generator is a good buy or is there better value for money

Don’t be silly, that would mean answering the original question when there’s a high horse to jump aboard ?
So to answer original question, I would buy a quieter one for a little more money OR i would buy one off e- bay second hand

search “suitcase generator” on e bay and fill your boots

Just looked at an 800 w “AutoJack” brand thats only 58db and £180 new
HALF the weight and at least HALF the noise

Says it is 93dba in the instruction manual.
Exactly...... who’s going to hear that ?
We are all old and full of ear wax, the beauty of being a bit more mature ?

Do you know you need one ?
The other options such as additional battery/solar and/or B2B make so much more sense than carting around a gennie just in case...

No, being honest. But I do know it will come in handy. I don’t need a MH, a tent would do
I have solar but I’m not convinced it will do enough to meet my hopes. That’s also why I’m asking here instead of hit send on the delivery page .
You guys have invaluable experience and I want to pick all your brains

Its 53 db !

The screwfix one is 93db
Thats dishwasher to pneumatic drill !!!
Did you look at the screen shot I posted? Says it’s 94 dB in the description
