From Spain to Norway - the long way round

Martin's out fishing. I was out taking photos of the sun setting and as I was heading back to the van he pulled in a mackerel. First catch since Lofoten. He put it back to swim another day!

A couple of my piccies.

Just before the sun set.

And the ferry crossing from Germundshamn to Wednesday which we may, or may not, take tomorrow.

It's a great morning here today again, musn't get too complacent 'cos we know it won't last. One mackerel in the fridge (the second one wasn't so lucky) and Martin's out there again now!!! He put the big one back as he's been told small is better, but he's really hoping for something different.

We're not really taking the ferry to Wednesday it goes to Arsnes! Didn't notice that before .

stuff the mackerel with french mnusdard and any strong greens, then bbq or wrap in tin foil and bake

glad your weather is as good as ours (y) the moon is full tonight and only comes up just over the horizon in the south, ours was a lovely orange colour last night, but at same time as aurora which got our attention :)

thanks for your tips for the northern bits, we now have 22 nights till our tunnel back, going to minimise the days for the journey back which might be a mistake o_O the aurora strength is looking good possibly still strong enough for southern Norway (y)

We left our overnighter eventually when I dragged Martin away from his fishing spot.

IMG_20170904_093059104_HDR.jpg

We caught the ferry still not knowing whether to turn right or left when we disembarked.

IMG_20170904_101038950_HDR.jpg

Needing to do some shopping we elected to turn left and brave the 11km tunnel and go to Odda. Mission successful. Stopped for coffee on the way overlooking a fish farm.

IMG_20170904_110109359.jpg

We're going through there. Somewhere!
IMG_20170904_103656069_HDR.jpg

Shopping completed, we then took Route 13 south passing the waterfalls Latefossen and Espelandsfoss.

IMG_20170904_123928017_HDR.jpg

After climbing uphill we took the decision to go by the Tourist Road 520. After the first few km we should have turned back BUT we don't like to be beaten, so we continued on a bad surfaced, narrow road with blind bends through bleak terrain.

IMG_20170904_132043177_HDR.jpg

Eventually the road surface improved and widened out in places.
IMG_20170904_133042626.jpg

We crossed a very narrow bridge.
IMG_20170904_133642569.jpg

And eventually, to Martin's relief we descended and the road turned into a proper road not one pretending to be.

We've arrived at Saude and saw bobilparkering advertised at the marina so that's where we are now. NOK100 for parking with electricity and WIFI, toilets and access to showers and washing machine. It's not the prettiest of situations but it's OK.

We were greeted (in Spanish) by two women walking their dogs (who had nothing to do with the marina) but who showed Martin all the facilities. They are sisters who live locally but motorhome in Spain in the winter, usually around the Murcia/Almeria region!!!

Martin's out fishing, surprise, surprise!!!

A few photos around the bobilparkering. Looking across to the town and down the fjord. It was quite dull when I took the photos but it's getting brighter again now.

Just had a shout from Martin to "get my bucket"!!

Another one he's put back as it's "too big"!

He's still not comfortable handling them!

I'm surprised you travelled on the 520 so alone, it is one of Norways 18 National Scenic Routes..

http://www.nasjonaleturistveger.no/en/routes/ryfylke

We bypassed the Sauda element when we were there as the weather was shocking and forecast worse so we were hightailing it at that time to the North.. Though we must have spent an hour queueing on the road to Odda at road works, they can't have finished already...

There was hardly anyone on the road today. A few German cars and a Danish one and a couple of locals until we were almost down at the "safe" road when we came face to face with a Swedish motorhome, luckily near a passing place. We were glad we were going the other way!!!

No problems on the road to (or from) Odda.

we used a bobilparkering the other night, pretty location to park Innhavet, but not as many facilities as you and 200NK, but a really nicely set up aire type site, shop adjacent but not much else, local hotel allowing use of room to shower for 75NK £7.50 per person, doubt they get much take up

will be looking for more of their sites in the future (y)

I reckon someone has been winding Martin up on this "too big" thing! No such thing as a mackerel that's too big ....... just more of it to eat (y) Tell Martin to get a bigger bucket :)

His face ! ::bigsmile:

What about His Face....I was in a very dangerous situation...these fish have teeth ya know....its OK for you guys, you get your fish ready battered and served with chips...I go out to bring ours in from the wild...Man versus Fish.....

Well we're back to typical Norwegian rainy weather. We've stopped for coffee at a perfect free overnighter at the old ferry port to Sand. Unfortunately it's too early to stop but the addict has gone out in pouring rain for a fix!!!

Looking across to Sand on the Rv13.

The photos are in colour .

Now, just for info for anyone intending to "do" Norway. This far south and west we have full UK TV and radio via satellite.

Tonight we can watch the new series of Dr. Foster .

See, I've cheered things up a bit - the sun looks as if it's almost shining. :)
But is that the periscope of a Russian sub in the centre foreground?

I have just seen this on the internet , thought @jumar might be interested as it's fishing related. Helen Glover (olympic rower) is in the Arctic , she also seems to have become interested in fishing like yourself and caught this one :) No pressure Martin.

That's an odd outfit to go fishing in! Looks like just got out of bed, in her Jim jams and thrown the blanket over her shoulders.

It rained all day yesterday and into the night. So heavily that the satellite stopped working so no Dr. Foster :(. Have to see it later.

It's dry here now, dull, but with a few blue patches in the sky. Martins out already!!! Don't know what he'll do when we leave Norway. Totana canal is hardly the same .

@Jenben did you do Pulpit Rock? How much is the parking, can you stay overnight? Not that we're thinking of doing a touristy walk, of course ;) but there's another route that starts at the same place.

Yes , apparently the lack of darkness has made it difficult for her to sleep and so she got up in the night and did catch the fish whilst wearing her Jim jams

No, the weather was wet the day we could have gone there, I think @moulin 87 did get to it and posted a picture from there.
