From Spain to Norway - the long way round

Wherever it came from ... it was delicious. Eaten with the freshly dug up spuds cooked in oil and herbs in a Weber with cucumber salad and sour cream. Washed down with yet more wine! (We are in Norway aren't we?)

Don't I know it!!! I cleaned ours particularly well this time. Not really looking forward to walking back through the door even though Paula and Maria have been in and tidied up.

whoops sorrry to be a reminder

We left the cabin and returned down the mountain road feeling a little worried that we'd meet the bin lorry coming up. Lucky us we got to the main road intact.

We called into Voss for some supplies. Bought Jan and Eli some wine to make up for drinking theirs and bought some things for dinner. I was feeding us all this time. We filled up with diesel and LPG and headed to a small village of Fusa where Eli has bought a house. It's about 35km south of Bergen but across the fjord and on a headland.

We stopped on the drive for a couple of fishing attempts and a stop at a waterfall.

There's a path that goes up and under the water.

We made it up and we're heading back down just before a tour bus arrived!

We booked onto a campsite last night as the access to Eli's house is too narrow for our van.

Looking across towards Eli's house from the campsite. Unfortunately not from our pitch.

As the house is half demolished I cooked the food in the van and Jan came to pick us up. For you foodies we had trout pate (made from the leftovers) with oatcakes, chicken and brocolli pasta and strawberries and vanilla yogurt. Everything easy to do and transport.

For dinner we were joined by Eli's son and granddaughter. Andreas was there to do some work on the house so after dinner Elena took Martin down to the quay to teach him how to fish!!! She is ten years old and already a successful fisherperson.

The quay

Setting up a rod for Martin (after he lost a lure on his first cast!!!)

They fished side by side. Guess who caught a fish?

But grandad got the job of gutting it.

Come on chaps. The sun's gone down. Time to go.

Today has dawned as a beautiful autumn morning. We're going to get some jobs done whilst on a site and then getting the bikes out to go cycling. We'll call in at the house later but they're there to get some work done on the renovations so don't want to halt the progress.

The house on the hill.

They'll have another nice place when it's finished.

Glad to see you've taken charge for fishing duties Judith
How many did you catch ?

Maybe we can play Guess The Whoppers ?

More washing done and dried. Potatoes dried! Freshly dug from the cabin garden and a bagful given to us. Fishing tackle sorted.

Went for a bike ride along the coast as far as the village of Strandvik. Stopped to take a photo down to the quay where the fishing match took place last night.

We sat on a wall for lunch and Martin played about on my bike. We called in to see the workers and have been invited to a barbie tonight. Taking plenty of clothes cos last night it got very cold.

We've just returned from the barbie and another cold fishing session. Before we could eat we had to assemble the seats on the balcony. It just fit in nicely next to the scaffolding!

Martin adding the cushions after assembly completed.

And trying them out.
IMG_20170902_171755796_HDR.jpg

The only access to this area at the moment is up a ladder from the garden below or through the dining room window!!!

Happy worker Andreas, empty coffee cup and brandy glass in hands.

And the happy barbequers.

Eli and I were preparing food inside until time to eat and the climb out through the window!

After eating it was the rematch fishing. We went down to the same quay and they fished in their same positions and the result was the same. So 2 - 0 to Elena.

A fond goodbye to Eli as we'll not see her again on this trip but we're walking to the top of a mountain with Jan today. Special trip for him because we start at the village of Holdus which is his surname. We'll see them both again in October, in Spain!!!

Sunset on the quay and the end of a lovely day.

Just finished our walk with Jan and found a place next to the Hardangerfjorden to spend the night. Jan's family came from Holdus since the 17th century and gave the place its name. Everyone we met on the route knew him or his cousins or uncles etc. He hasn't climbed this mountain for about ten years and his first time on it was when he was about 5.

The two mountains we ascended are the ones on the left.

IMG_20170903_152032975.jpg

We had a slow climb up and lunch on the top.

On the way down we visited a memorial to the Norwegian resistance fighters at a place where the British dropped guns and ammunition for them.

Jan's father and uncle were part of the team. His father was a sargeant.

On the top of the second peak we met a farmer out checking his sheep. Of course Jan knew him so we stopped for a break and a chat.

IMG_20170903_131830285.jpg

He spotted a sheep stuck on a ledge across the valley, not one of his though. His are tail less and have blue and red ear tags. He headed down to inform the owner.

Now a photo of the elusive Cloudberry. Not many around but Jan found a few. Not sure why they're so popular because they contain quite big pips in them.

IMG_20170903_133451060_HDR.jpg

We descended past some unusual rock formation and quite shortly afterwards arrived back at Jan's car from where he drove us back to our van parked at the school in Holdus.

IMG_20170903_141411079.jpg

We were sorry to say goodbye to them and to the area but we need to move on now.

What a great trip you are having. Many thanks for the posts. :)
