From Spain to Norway - the long way round

another big aurora alert just been given out for next few hours, not sure how much change there has been yet in darkness hours with moving on in time and moving south, but worth a peep at some point (if clear tonight) (y)

Thanks.

It does get darker a little earlier now but not much ... but unfortunately its cloudy tonight after a beautiful day with temperatures around 20 degrees.

Double Pics....not here there isn't....who's been taking Friday night is social night a bit early.

Today we drove the last part of the "Highway" and continued on to Bud. Because it was drizzling we (Martin) thought it was a good time for him to try fishing again. We parked under the old German Fort (now restored and a museum) which I wandered up to and Martin wandered off with his rod.

I have photos but the following link shows it in much better light!

I did take a photo of the town from above though.

I wandered down to see whether we were having fish for dinner or if I needed to defrost something.

I didn't like this one.

But I did like this one!

Needless to say we weren't having fish. You should have seen the "one that got away" though

He caught a boat?

Did you investigate the pipes coming out of the rock ridge behind the cairn, in the photograph?

From Bud we drove to climb a hill (mountain) I'd researched while Martin was fishing. Our first view on the drive in.

Almost, but not quite famous @Jenben

My research found a map and description from the Norwegian Tourism. We followed their map and ended up at a house where a very nice, young, Norwegian woman asked if we were doing the hike. I think she was used to intruders. Anyway she led us across her garden, told us to climb over her fence, walk through her field to a track turn right then left and we'd be on the route. She was right!!!

The route climbed through a forest with lovely bilberries but we were on a hike. It emerged into the open.

And finally topped out.

On our descent of the mountain we stopped to talk to a couple walking up. They were locals, mother and son. They gave us good info of places to visit and recommended Trollsteigen and Geirangerfjorden, which we were pleased about because we are a little fed up of touristy locations. I've found a ridge walk to do, the Romsdalseggen Ridge which finishes in Andalsnes (and which they recommended us to do if we get good weather) which fits in nicely.

Just for info @DavidG58 so far we have only seen a couple of mosquitoes. Tonight though we have the Norwegian cousins of Scottish midges so the door's now closed.

Have I misunderstood??? These were two of the three most touristy places we visited... If the are any cruise ships are in the Fjord then the roads are full of tourist coaches taking the '000s of cruisers to Trollsteigen and everywhere else within 75 miles or so....The glaciers, Dalsnibba etc.

No, I know they are touristy but they still recommended them as places we should visit. We may change our minds yet though.

They are worth going to in their own right but if you bypass them you'll also bypass all the 'wilderness' and glaciers beyond, but they'll be far busier than Lofoten..

Still busy even now?

I think we'll have to grin and bear it and go see. Afterwards well find some "us" places.

We may not be as adventerist as you to, but it feels like it this weekend, we have both our 7 year old grandsons staying with us in our mo tonight, and thier still awake.

Phil @Scout I've seen your photos of your grandchildren, have a great time with them.

Not much to report today so far. Totally opposite day to yesterday which started wet and cleared to make a fine day and clear night (but no Aurora Borealis!)

Today started sunny but soon turned to rain. Martin went to try to catch a fish (again). Chicken tonight! He did see (and was seen by) an otter so that helped soften his failure.

We're thinking about booking onto a campsite to do some washing. That's how desperate we are .

More later maybe. It won't be a photo of our washing in the machine though, promise!

Where did you chatch the chicken aldi

Is the rear brake problem completely resolved? Is the pipe mystery solved?

No LIDL either Poland or Germany. Freezer was stuffed with chicken and Swedish meatballs. We're slowly making our way through them.

We're now about half way through the Norwegian part of the trip. I posted our first meal. This was our halfway meal tonight.

Chicken Chow Mein with noodles (oodles of them).

We're still eating well, I think? Accompanied by a larger than allowance glass of wine.

We've booked onto a lovely rustic German owned! campsite at the end of the road in a tiny place called Rødven on our way to Andalsnes and the touristy bits. We needed to do some washing and decided that even though it wasn't good drying weather we'd get stuff washed.

The site costs NOK120 plus NOK30 for electricity. The washing machine is NOK20. When green light is on its available. First load green light NOK20 job done. Second load red light machine occupied. I've taken our washing out it's NOT. Start light flashing, pressed it, new wash starts. And third wash ...

Got a heater blowing in the van shower drying first wash. What with Chinese food and a Chinese laundry we think we're somewhere else.

Martin tried fishing again but no joy, but no fish either for some Germans with expensive kit.

A few pics from the site.

Think we have been through the "I don't need a boat" bit last week.....

Hi Mr Hagstom...the brakes are now working as they should, thanks for asking, the pipe mystery is not as you expect....they are not pipes afterall but eyes on metal bars which have been used in the past to secure something on the summit. What needed securing I cannot imagine...a flag pole perhaps.
