From Spain to Norway - the long way round

Great info, thanks. But does it make much difference on ferries once your vehicle is over 6m? Ours is 6.7m. but looks small against other vans .

from what I read on your link at 6m the price is double a car rate, then it increases every 1m by quite a lot, it also says things are rarely measured and rounding down is the norm, we are 8.2m as I have only very recently discovered, model is 800 and I genuinely thought we were 8m, booked all my Scottish crossings on that basis up to now, o_O think I will continue to say 8m in Norway (y)

at 6.7m you can not get away with anything, you come into the lower band, unless you can make it look like a car :)

The biggest difference of them all...6m and under are charged as a car.. Shorter crossings roughly 10€. 6.01m and perhaps it would be 22€. More if you are over 7m and again over 8m. On longer crossings the costs could be double.. Cost includes the driver, passengers extra... If you are a pensioner there are savings but I don't know what they are...

My wife was most unhappy when one operator looked across the cab and asked ' Pensionista?' or something similar and before I could say 'What is the age requirement? there was a very indignant 'NO' from my right..

Hadn't seen David's note above.. We are 7.7m, I just said 7m when asked, only one guy queried it..

Though they do have small marks on the car deck 1m apart to check if they really wanted..

Everybody ignores the instruction to turn the gas off... Didn't see anybody do it..

Maybe get a quick wrap done then :D

In the cost of the whole trip what's a few hundred more!!!

We're now at Arvika for the Swedish O Ringen 5 day orienteering event, the biggest in the world. Posts will be sparse 'cos it's not of general interest. We had a walk round the town yesterday and checked out a wine shop! A Spanish €5 Rioja was more than double the Spanish price, the cost of a 5 litre box!!!

We studied this statue closely. It has all the bits, except for a propef head! How strange. Martin is sitting on its hand.

Forgot to mention the gin decanted into a plastic water bottle and kept under the sink with the washing up liquid and other assorted bottles of various liquids  Only one GnT a week there tho'

What's the capacity of your fresh water tank, just wondering? :)

I would like it to be known that the above remark was posted by someone only pretending to be me, in other words, an imposter.
Or what about, there were crumbs in my keyboard and it should have read a "Do I see a knee of a bat in the photo"?
Or, how about........

Noted...one more comment like that and the Dog Gets it..

Ah, no, wait, that reminds me.... It was the dog that jumped up and hit the keyboard several times with his paw.

Tomorrow is the start of our Scandi adventure. The Orienteering is all over bar the dismantling. We just about got to grips with Swedish mapping on the last day and had our best runs. Still miles behind the locals tho! We're staying here tonight, got the kit washed and dried and packed away until October in Spain.

Tomorrow we're setting off to drive along the Swedish coast to have a look at the Höga Kusten (High Coast) and World Heritage Natural site. Next year's competition is going to be held there. Will we be there??? Who knows.

A few photos from the competition.

The 1950s are alive and kicking in Sweden.

Since we've been here we've been intrigued by the number of old American cars we've seen on the roads. The following link explains it.

Some of them are loads of junk but there are a few that are the pride and joy of their owners. We followed this one today for a few km.

We're now in striking distance of the Swedish coast at Söderhamn from where we'll drive up the High Coast. We should have been there already but we were held up due to a traffic problem. Looks like it was a burnt out car and caravan. Hope the occupants were OK, the ambulance passed us driving very slowly!

We're now stopped at a picnic area near the town of Alfta. You can park up anywhere here!!!

We're now half way up the Höga Kusten parked at a small ferry port €3 to take us to 9.00 am tomorrow.

At lunchtime we pulled into a parking area to fill up with water. Martin went to speak to a young couple with an English registered motorbike. He was Brazilian and she was Venezuelan!!! Been working in London and packed up to tour after speaking to a New Zealand 73 year old woman travelling on a Vespa!!! They were surprised Martin approached them (nasty motorbikers!!!) as they find people shy away from them. We were then joined by a young Belgian guy and his dog in a Dutch registered motorhome who is travelling in the opposite direction and he gave us some good tips. He gave us the walking map for the Skuleskogens National Park, which is where we'll be tomorrow weather permitting.

We had a short walk along the coast from here earlier today and if the National Park is similar it will be a good day out.
