French Lockdown

There is a fraise for it that I can not post but the name Jack appears in it.
No travel restrictions back then,,Cornwall was rammed according to my sister in law,,we were on a 125 pitch site in France with 3 German vans and a 350 pitch site in Spain with about 40 other vans..Sister in law could not even park in Newquay it was that busy..BUSBY,,Alias JACK 😁😁

Why when it keeps you on your toes,
Robert is still outside making man impact drill noises, do you think I should send the dogs out to save him?:giggle:
You callin' me a ballet dancer then?:swear2::rofl: I struggle to balance on me feet!
Have you seen Gus recently? Bet Boab's got him workin' the drill and he's sat back scoffin' beer and choccy biscuit!:giggle:

Why do these threads always turn into UK bashing ones.
It's ok, we understand you prefer to go to Europe and are frustrated you currently can't.
But give over with the constant the UK is too expensive, too crowded refrain - because it isn't.
They don't turn into UK bashing ones, just tell the truth as most know it but many don't wish to admit, they would rather bash the EU and usually the French with their bigoted points of view.

Which bits have you seen so far?
If you pull up outside our place we will make you a cuppa.:giggle:
We spent all of October last year 'doing' the NC500, followed by a dash through the Central Belt, pretty much without stopping anywhere as the local rules then were such that we felt we oughtn't hang around, and then the SWC300, before heading home. We were blown away!!

We reckon it would all look different going 'the other way round', and there were many places we would like to revisit in more depth.

So it would be a great Plan B if we don't use our Chunnel Ticket - and I'll do anything for a decent cuppa !!

Another French lockdown,
Based on English rules though. Tell them in advance so everyone can leave prior to the introduction-
But give over with the constant the UK is too expensive,
it always was & having looked from the outside now for the past 19 years it has becoe horrendously expensive for many run of the mill things.
too crowded refrain
It was too crowded in London & the soutrh -east when we moved to Devon in'84 .then that became as busy as what we had left by the late 90's.
because it isn't.
No it is far worse than that.
as when you get there the bars are closed the shops are closed , beaches are cordoned off, sites may be closed, Aires might even be closed, locals might treat you with disdain as they don't want you there at present.
You must go somewhere different to everyone else as everything has been open since last september here? Bars & restaurants have suffered restrictions but have remained open for takeaways. even when no seating in or out allowed the populous just sit on the floor, wall etc.
Sites are open , aires, are beaches as well.
In fact you are better off than we are as nationals & residents cannot leave exit there own regions whereas foreigners travelling by road have no restrictions.

Don't remember it being like that last Sept Oct in France or Spain,,BUSBY😁

Looks like the French are still having a tantrum over Brexit, normally quicker than UK customs.
They’re sulking. Their bottom lips are sticking out,and their “armholes“are pouting. Pathetic.

As you see it never stops

Unfortunately I can see the NC500 AND Cornwall like this most of the summer...

I know this is not going to do me any favours in the popularity stakes on here, but I am beginning to think there is a lot of jealousy going on here , people who are afraid to go to France are just thinking up excuses to get at others who say they might go, and saying they love to tour the UK is just sour grapes.

I love France (especially when travelling in our moho) and to a point the French too, I loathe the EU and all that it stands for, there is a difference you know.

As for motorhoming in England, I can (just about) tolerate it, but couldn't imagine touring for months on end as we do in mainland Europe.

We do plug our area on here, but it really is missed by may who come to Scotland and it is beautiful.
You say you will anything for a decent cuppa.....well let me start compiling a list.......:active:

Nope!

There is only Ile de France (Paris and surroundings) and Hauts de France which are under lockdown, and travels not allowed between regions are only for those regions

Or vice-versa. No one is afraid to go to France. People are afraid of Covid. The situation in France and indeed it's near neighbours is getting out of hand with a third wave looking increasingly likely.

But no one is left in Paris ! All who can have left . Idiots . Let’s spread the virus a bit more

Hope you don't include me in that :giggler: . Our last trip in Europe (2019) included Greece, Bulgaria & Romania. As for being "afraid to go to France" We tend to stay away preferring to take the the path less travelled!

Yeah I know ! I've seen the problem on the news...Planes trains towards south completly over booked!
A bit gutted too! We are having a rate of 154,9 out of 100 000 in Occitanie! I hope it won't go up! I can't have a jab because of my high level of allergies

I actually like the UK, quite a lot. If we had reliable weather here, I wouldn't bother with all the hassle of driving to Europe. We do enjoy Spain and further south in France, as it's nice to wake up every morning knowing the sun will be shining.

There are so many lovely places here. I love Norfolk, the New Forest, North Yorkshire, Dorset, North Devon, Somerset, Derbyshire, these are my favourite places in the world. We like pubs and we like fish and chips.

You're wrong saying we are jealous and afraid. I think you've got the wrong end of the stick.

I for one love france, and indeed most european countries, if possible we will go to europe this year, regardless of anyone's opinion.
Each has to weigh the risks as they see it and make decisions for what is right for them.
The last thing we would want to do is spread the virus to anyone, but with some compromises on our part and a change in behaviour, i think it is safe for us and residents of wherever we end up to visit quite safely.

I'd put a mirror on your statement in that people are just thinking up excuses to go to France despite the fact that deep down they really know that its wrong & dangerous not to mention selfish.

I just want to add that nothing I'm saying here is personal, I believe its fact.

This pandemic is just going to keep moving around if its allowed to mutate by countries who are spitting the dummy & throwing the toys out of the pram.
The proof is right in front of our eyes, look what Europe has done, they've thrown away vaccines using a feeble excuse of blood clots, even though they know it was untrue & the result, a runaway virus in their respective countries.

The UK has leapt at the chance to have the vaccine & this acceptance is beginning to bear fruit.

I'm going to be painfully blunt here. :imoutahere:

If you decide to go over the channel this year, you should be forced to stay there.
I know thats a blanket statement that will make some folks angry, but its wholly stupid to move around anywhere in Europe then drag their filth back here & it is irresponsible to assume otherwise.

They've spat the dummy at us & used every excuse in the book & a few that aren't even in the book to discredit the UK & the result? Another French lockdown, with Germany likely to follow.

I totally understand that people adore many European countries & that includes myself, but wild horses couldn't drag me over there just now.
They've lost their cashcow....err sorry, they've lost the UK & lost their whipping boy, so hell mend them. :envy:

Have the sense to vote with your feet for another year, stay in the UK, you never know, you might discover that you like it, then when the dust settles, have a winter break in the sun somewhere.

Yes this is a "Fire In the Hole" statement, but please examine your reasons before travelling.
Nothing quite like a reasoned point of view full of rhetoric to try to change someone's mind.

Hang in there xx It seems gendarmes are on alert for maison secondaires which are inhabited and have the right to fine and send home if they are from one of the 16 departments . They do pass our house every night between 11.15 and 11.45 so no doubt will see if anyone has arrived at the gîte next door .

Can't agree more!

For us part of the purpose of using our van is to travel to places that are demonstrably different to 'home'. That includes people speaking a different language, different supermarkets and shopping experiences, different ways of life, the cafe culture that is more prevalent in Europe, different currencies, and of course, the weather!

The UK is wonderful and we love it - but we live here (at the moment) and when we are in the van we crave somewhere 'different'. Perhaps that is why we enjoyed Scotland so much - because it felt different to home. We should try Ireland as well as we may find that to be similar - but there is no doubt that the UK would be a wonderful holiday destination for us, if we didn't live here!

Just heard that a 4 week full lockdown has been reintroduced in 15 regions of France and Macron, who previously said the AZ wasn't effective on over 65's now says it will be given only to over 55's. What a muddle!
Germany has cases increasing 'exponentially' (their word) and has threatened that if the EU doesn't get its finger out they will order the Russian vaccine themselves. I have an image of a sulky EU procurement bureaucrat signing the Russian order with a peg on his/her nose

It is such a quandary now.
Germany breaking rank with EU over the Sputnik. Berlin breaking rank with the Federal States over Sputnik.

  • Merkel said Germany could use Russia's Sputnik V vaccine pending EMA approval, saying Berlin would order the jab if the EU does not

Today 19th March France has announced another lockdown for a month and this means that travel is restricted between regions. I wondering if our planned trip is going t happen as we have a Shuttle booking for the 18th May. Before you start shouting 'Go away in the UK' that is not going to happen with us. I've been camping for 30+ years and today in my opinion which I'm entitled to sites in the UK are just not worth the money. In excess of £30 per night for a fully serviced pitch when I pay no more than €25 in France and Spain with all services including Bar / Restaurants and Shop on site. Oh well if we cannot go then the M/H stays covered up until next year.
What do other Funsters think of the future?
Agree. Sadly, I’m not much of an Anglophile
