French Lockdown

Luckily, we do enjoy UK motorhoming, there are some really lovely places here. Although campsites are more expensive, we save money on fuel, ferries, insurance and the dog, so overall a UK holiday is cheaper for us. Oh and we also like the pubs you get here and the fish and chips.

We do enjoy going to France and Spain, for a different way of life and of course the weather. However, I have no idea how things will turn out, regarding European travel, it's anyone's guess.

For those who dont know, I monitor the European infection rate daily and have done since the start of the year and logged all the infections, trends etc. and they are all there to view

I have almost no doubts at all, whatsoever, based upon the history of this virus and the manner in which it reacts to date so far, that our trip in June will be going ahead. I have only cancelled my May one because of fears of the Q10 upon return, and I would expect Europe to be open to accept us around that time. I think Cyprus and Greece, maybe Spain and Portugal are looking at May 1st and that is with Greece hitting high figures atm.

Take Portugal. 1612 in the 14day/100,000 figures on 1st February. Not even 7 weeks ago. We have nearly 9 weeks until May 17th. They are currently on 76.5 and losing 5 a day every day. For every Portugal there is Spain, UK, Ireland, Croatia.

Plenty time for countries to go up and down, and with the warmer weather coming and excluding any vaccine effect, I see no issues.

Remember last year when they opened in June but people wanted to hang on until September. We all had to go to Germany !!!!!
It's true that Portugal's figures have nosedived. But - we have been in lockdown since mid January, nothing open except essential shops, all public areas beaches benches parks taped off, curfew on movement every weekend with everything closed at 1pm, curfew on all movement outside your own municipality every night and all weekends, no drinks not even coffee allowed to be sold with takeaway meals.....its been very strict. The planned release from lockdown, due to begin 5th April, looks too fast too soon and I would lay money on it that there will be backward steps and most probably a further lockdown when infections start rising again, its inevitable I fear.

Not a lot of difference between Portuguese lockdown and French current restrictions but totally different results.

I think the Portuguese have just had their share of the "kent/British" named virus, earlier as have Ireland, UK and Spain, with France and Italy having it now and ze germans and neighbouring countries either getting it or just about to get it.

Portugal opening early April will see a slight jump (imv) however they may well reap the benefits before others.

We love motorhoming in Greece but once again we'll not be going this year. Instead we have booked a few mini breaks on campsites right here in Norfolk. You'll no doubt see from my profile that I live in Norfolk, double bonus of being a fabulous count and not far to travel. (y)

I'm going to be painfully blunt here. :imoutahere:

If you decide to go over the channel this year, you should be forced to stay there.
I know thats a blanket statement that will make some folks angry, but its wholly stupid to move around anywhere in Europe then drag their filth back here & it is irresponsible to assume otherwise.

They've spat the dummy at us & used every excuse in the book & a few that aren't even in the book to discredit the UK & the result? Another French lockdown, with Germany likely to follow.

I totally understand that people adore many European countries & that includes myself, but wild horses couldn't drag me over there just now.
They've lost their cashcow....err sorry, they've lost the UK & lost their whipping boy, so hell mend them. :envy:

Have the sense to vote with your feet for another year, stay in the UK, you never know, you might discover that you like it, then when the dust settles, have a winter break in the sun somewhere.

Yes this is a "Fire In the Hole" statement, but please examine your reasons before travelling.
At my age I am not going to cut my nose off to spite my face.Agree with all you say but that's the fault of the politicians not the residents,, Still hoping to go..BUSBY.

Given the tough trading times our countrymen \ women have been through over the last year we've got around 70-80 nights arranged throughout Scotland this year.
We would rather spend our cash here than supporting other economies that a number of Funsters have been decrying for their actions \ comments \ etc post Brexit and during pandemic.:(

Do you include English travelling into Scotland in that statement?

He can speak for himself, but is outside at the moment making lots of noise with an impact drill.;)

But I can say that he was referring to the UK travel into Europe, I'm not really sure why you would ask that.

I only ask as we had an amazing trip to Scotland last year. If European travel is not on in 2021 we only scratched the surface of Scotland and would love to return, but we are now, as we were then, very conscious of upsetting local populations (that goes for anywhere we visit really), and so wondered what the feeling was in Scotland in respect of us crossing the border at the moment????

I can't see what country boundaries have to do with any of this, covid is worldwide, it's the same all over , ok, some have it worse than others but it will keep equaling out, look how many lorry drivers and other business people are still traveling now, same here we are supposed to be in lockdown, there are loads more people going past here in the day than there ever was in normal times.

The gendarmes are looking to fine anyone they find out of their primary residential address department as of Saturday. Looks like things are going to get a little testing again
They're going to be busy: our spies in France on the site where we have our static van tell us every train from Paris to the Vendee is full at the moment.

We are here, our home in Spain riding out current restrictions....it's been tough for Spanish Citizens and Residents alike...the economy is surviving....we cannot leave our region...cannot travel to our home country to visit our friends and family perhaps for a long time yet....because of one thing only Covid.
Eventually we might get out where we want to, but we think it's better to save lives than having a jolly....we are a long way from getting our jabs....but you might get yours and mix with us....you might be protected, but we aren't.....you might not die but we and others might....something to consider or perhaps having a holiday is more important....

Whilst not a Government official so it's not an official stance this guy talks a lot of sense in respect of motorhoming, and how to maintain \ improve it's image in Scotland.

ps you don't want to be going to the specific site he mentions as the scenery is cr*p and the sunset is even worse!

To be honest so long as rules are respected you will be welcomed, I just hope the staycation people who are not normally MH's don't spoil it for the rest of us.
It would be so much easier if the UK as a whole used the same rules and indicators instead of the way they are doing it, all it does is cause more confusion.
Which bits have you seen so far?
If you pull up outside our place we will make you a cuppa.:giggle:

Why would you want to travel 100's or 1000's of miles in the EU as when you get there the bars are closed the shops are closed , beaches are cordoned off, sites may be closed, Aires might even be closed, locals might treat you with disdain as they don't want you there at present. God forbid you fall ill.
So you keep yourself to yourself, mix with no one, go no where as everywhere is closed.
Might as well sit in your MH on the end of your own drive.

Patience is the order of the day, lets all show some and be responsible adults.

On our way. No sugar for us please, but a wee dram to warm the cockles of our hearts would go down well.👍🥃

We have a motorbike trip booked to the Normandy beaches in the first week in Sept . Not convinced that all the museums will be fully open by then and have to pay the balance of the accomodation in a few weeks which is transferable but non refundable I will probably change the crossings again until May 22. I also have ferries booked to Spain in October, which am hoping we can still do, but will make a decision on that in a few months.

You would out of luck there, neither of us drink it and besides you would be driving. ;)
If we had the space we would happily let funsters park up for the night, but sadly we don't.

Stop changing your Location then!😝
Why when it keeps you on your toes, there are enough funsters who know where we live already........eeekkkkk.:sneaky:
Robert is still outside making man impact drill noises, do you think I should send the dogs out to save him?:giggle:
