French Lockdown

For me I have to trust our elected Govt to get this right, the last year has certainly been difficult for them to negotiate with push pull from all directions and some now in hindsight are all too ready to blame for decisions taken.
With an impressive vaccination programme and probable follow up booster jabs in the Autumn I think we have a good chance of opening up with a degree of caution but at what level European infection levels should be I could not second guess .

Well my garden is going to be a little oasis , for my summer holidays, i might treat myself to a paddling pool, thats where ill be until its safe to fly to a hot climate,im not lucky enough to have a motorhome at moment, as im pretty tied with commitments, and would never get the use out of it, so when i do get a fortnight where i can get away i usually like to go long haul, that doesnt look likely so ive been spending at the garden centre, its going to be like a tropical paradise (only cloudy) lol

Exactly ...instead they will descend on the Highlands of Scotland ...cornwall etc all the areas that have limited hospitals etc just like they did last year.

This is the penalty for every country scaring the bejeesus out of folk for the last year..... hypocrisy is rife

Hospital admissions, as the most likely to be hospitalised have been vaccinated will not be a factor. The number of infections will be flat or even decreasing as the vaccine program reaches more people.

I respect your point of view, of course, but i trust the government about as far as i could throw a ton of concrete
Boris Johnson shaking hands early on with all and sundry, and look where that got him
No clear direction on mask wearing for months
chancellors ill advised eat out scheme
lack of proper funding for ALL businesses, still ongoing
Delaying the start of lockdowns for far too long, against the advice of SAGE
Dominic cummings, doing as he pleases with impunity, and mr Johnson senior
No free school meals for an age and then only because they were shamed
The doling out of PPE contracts to totally inappropriate companies without any scrutiny or consequence it would seem.
The best thing they did was to back several vaccines and pre order, well done, thank god they have the NHS to administer the vaccine.
Not a particularly shining example of leadership.

Well done you, sadly your type of travel is the risky one, stay safe whatever you decide to do.

Time will tell on that front.

Amen
And yet they are all out demanding nicola sturgeon resigns 🤣🤣🤣

But how long do people think that the population will tolerate being locked into our relatively small island. The remainder of the year? 2022? 2023?

What if the covid and its variants keep coming?

At what point will the British public demand that life must go on?

Just asking!
You may have to get used to tolerating it because it may not be the UK Government to that stops you going!

I won't bang on about this but the statement foreign travel has no impact is just plain wrong. It came to this country not from China but from folk returning from skiing trips in Europe.
I dont believe that this is true. It was first here in Oct/Nov 2019 and there is a case linked to a lady who caught it when she visited the Chinese Embassy inLondon when she applied for a Visa

Which bit do you not believe ?
I don't believe the vaccine is a super saviour. It will be an annual vaccine abd you will still require masks and social distancing for the next couple of years.

Folk seem to be ignoring this fact despite it being repeated regularly by health officials 🤷🏻‍♂️

Naturally you would have done better, hindsight is a wonderful thing ::bigsmile:

No hindsight is required, just some common sense, and an ability to listen to experts in their relevant fields which the government has in spades.
There were plenty saying the eat out scheme would be a mistake.
could i do better than BJ yes, but then i have morals and tell the truth, so i wouldn't be welcome in government as i wouldn't fit in.

We’ve obviously been missing your self confessed expertise.

Expert? far from it, I would never consider myself an expert, but i do know that lead by example is the right thing to do.
Which is not what the government continues to display
Is it too much to ask for the government to make sure our front line NHS workers on which we rely to be properly equipped with the necessary PPE equipment? or to have a decent pay increase instead of the insulting 1% they were offered.
And before it is said that that's all the exchequer can afford, if the government didn't waste so much money on their hair brained schemes, there would be more to go round.
some of the PPE that was issued to the NHS was and is appalling
Oh yes they praise our wonderful NHS on tv what a wonderful group of people they are etc, pity their actions don't match their rhetoric.
Put your trust in them if you wish but don't expect everyone to follow or agree.

I am quite happy where I am , heading out of a terrible unprecedented international situation where governments across the world have taken similar , sometimes worse and sometimes better on the hoof decisions and most are not in the position that we are now.
If you want to eat your heart out for political or other reasons looking back on what might or might not have happened, you carry on , as for me and mine , well into our seventies having survived the virus , cancer etc had our jabs I’m grateful and not having angst over what happened before, just thankful for where we are now and looking forward to enjoying life.
Best wishes from me.

Try telling that to people who have lost loved ones, some which were completely unnecessary.
Governments are elected by the people and should serve the people, not their own egos or agendas or put the economy and money above people's lives.

There's an easy answer to that one, use the facilities in your van, after all you will have paid a lot of money for your van/motorhome, why not use them?
We do, I can't remember the last time we used a site, must be quite a few years now.

Can you point to a Gov. website or a SAGE member which is stating this as fact ?

People seem blind in regards to the Tories. Nov/Dec 2019 " the NHS is not for sale we would never sell it "

Nov/dec 2020 ... A vote held in the commons to protect the NHS from being sold ... Tories voted against it

Dec/jan 2021 ...370 NHS doctor surgeries sold to us firm

Nov/dec 2019 ...." 50000 new nurses ". 19000 of which we already had and hoped to retain by giving them a decent wage and proper equipment to do their job.

Jan/feb 2021 pathetic 1% pay rise AND they wonder why they cant get the staff

Worse government in history ....10 years of this crap but still ....blue passports blue passports

But its all those french and germans fault their just in the huff 😏

Do you not watch the news ? I mean ive been out the uk for 7 months yet i repeatedly hear them making these statements ....in fact it was actually on the news again last night at 9pm .

This is the problem too many people hearing what they want to hear.
Still being advised not to book foreign holidays this year also ...but still folk doing it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ok sure its the BBC and i don't really rate them but the first link to come uo on Google and ive other things to di than search through a load of links.

But here you go

There were plenty saying the eat out scheme would be a mistake.
What was actually wrong with the eat out scheme ?

It would be helpful if there were some facts in the reply rather than opinion as I havent seen anything that indicates it caused a rise in infection contrary to what I would call a myth

Thanking you in advance

Advice.

I would be taking that advice if I were booking the traditional holiday on a plane to Spain or Greece for a fortnight.
I wont be taking that advice for my motorhome holiday.
I made my decision on seeing a chap spend 6 months in Greece in a motorhome and come back alive. ;)
