FRANCE ON THE CARDS

This is easier. I would wait and see what the entry requirements are before returning and then take it from there. Loads of private and affordable antigen testing in France.
There is a booking system called doctolib where you can book online for a return test, I had the pcr test booked a few days before at a location that I planned to stay at, simply turned up and it done, results were available 24hrs later, cost 54 euros. That's doctolib.fr

I can now confirm (as promised) the NHS Antigen test is not accepted by the French Border staff at Dover. The guy doing the checking was having a field day and rejected the entry of the three car's who were in front of us at the entry check and then us also. We were then sent in a convoy, lead by a security vehicle to the exit point. Bugger!
So now back on Canterbury P&R and will try and book a private Antigen test come Monday. We have amended our ferry crossing to Tue afternoon without having to make any additional payments.
Just need to find a private antigen test for Monday in this area.
Phew! Well, we're back now, serving our 10 days punishment for being naughty campers for visiting France. I have to say it was worth it. Might even think about going back mid September. Unless this doom and gloom thing gets even gloomier.
At the last aires we stayed at, half were German, a few French and a Belgian and a couple of Dutch over a few days. So the Germans are taking over. Again.

I cannot see these paid for tests going away any time soon. They're too much of a money maker for too many people. Which is why the free NHS test is not acceptable. Nothing whatsoever to do with beating Covid. Just a money maker for some.

We are now in Spain having used the Somport tunnel last night.
No border controls on either side.
Seen one Brit plated so far and a couple of cars.
However loads of low country holiday makers especially down towards Bordeaux.
Plenty of stock in French dealers so maybe not the panic in the UK.
Anyway cloudless blue sky and 24c showing so need to get going.
Costa Blanca is calling.

So we get our tests in the morning and will try our luck again with the French Border police. Today we are enjoying Canterbury and getting a bit of a history lesson too. £14.00 per head to go into the Cathedral and a pint not short of £6.00. Thank god Mena got her pension at long last. Some nice river walks here and it's great weather. Just two other campers in the P & R both long stayers as far as I can see. Spoke with one and they over wintering there at Christmad and were not hassled by security which visited regularly and advised them to leave for 24 hrs then return to continue there stay. In the 3 days we have been here we have seen no more than 5 campers here at any one time and only one other crossing over.

Glad your sorted now Phil&Mena, we did our £29 tests today, sat at Portsmouth while our damp check is done by Southdowns, both negative of course, then sent off picture of testing device, together with passport, certificate received after about 4 hours, good to go for tunnel tomorrow, hopefully.🤞

Why should anyone have to pay to go into a Cathedral or church is beyond me
The COE continues to take money from the poor and needy. No wonder I no longer believe in the big guy in the sky. The greatest con of all times.

I agree and had an argument at Canterbury and asked what was their policy for a poor person who wanted to pray or a homeless person seeking refuge during the day . They were unable to answer

There are also antigen tests available in Canterbry for any who wish to use the bus.

I think they are booked solid Gus as not able to book on website. When I spoke to chap at Wren Healthcaee this morning about my booking he said we were very lucky to get in as since the last Government announcement on travel they have become overwhelmed with people looking to get antigen testing. There now booked out!

I have been an atheist for 65 years but Canterbury Cathedral has so much history it's a terrific place to visit.BUSBY.

You can get in for free to pray but restricted to a nave area. They reality is however, it's your money there after and there milking it for its worth. The COE must be one of the richest organising in the UK.

Yes! Agreed. A bit like the Cathedral in York and Exeter. It's not right though charging people to go into a place built on the money provided by the ordinary citizen which most of these places were. Should be free to all with voluntary donations and the bulk of spending made by the COE.

'Work for the Lord. The pay is abysmal, but the fringe benefits are out of this world ...' . But, when you set out the reality of the daily business of organised religion, it does make one think whether the correct spelling is 'pray' or 'prey' .. .Please, vicar, pray for me, don't let your boss pray on me ...'

Just for a comparison, we visited the monastery at Coimbra today for €3 each and 2 coffees and 1 cake was €4.80 ,its so much cheaper over here
