France in December

Total deaths across Europe from Covid-19 are likely to exceed 2 million by March next year, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said, adding that the pandemic had become the number one cause of death in the region.

Reported deaths have risen to nearly 4,200 a day, double the number being recorded in September, the agency said,

I’ll remove the word lockdown
Replace it with number one cause death in Europe
Err that report includes the UK and have already surpassed 1.5 million unfortunately and our numbers have been very high for the last few months compared with countries.

Bet you wouldn't drive onto a campsite at 11pm and wake everyone up but it's OK to do it on an Aire.
Isn't' that what Aires are all about the freedom to roam not be bound by any rules?

We will not get tunnel till 8:20pm Friday so 9:20 French time so will not arrive till 10:30-11pm, apart from having to get out of van to turn gas on it will be park up, handbrake on, levellers down, beer out can't see any problem so long as you don't go banging doors or anything.

Much safer over there they take notice of the regulations I've just come back from 6½ weeks in France & Spain it felt much safer than over here.
I agree- I have just come back after spending a month in France- social distancing, mask wearing in public places, in general they seem to be taking precautions more seriously that we d here- also where my house is located, it is less densely populated. Would I choose to go to Paris, ride the metro etc- probably not.

No, they are for Motorhomes to overnight stemming from when Motorhomes were banned from campsites. If you want to do that go up into the hills and wild.
There is a law that restricts arrival after 10 pm or departure before 7 am if the Aire is near a residential area, which most are.
I would agree that Gravelins is not near a residential area but I don't it's right that people should arrive late disturbing others.

Are there many hills near Gravelines:rolleyes:

Are you sure there is a law, maybe code of conduct? Anyway we will be arriving late Friday so lets hope Monsieur Plod is not there to arrest me.

Why would anyone want to go across the channel when half of the EU is in lockdown
With covid
Europe is a big place! I'm currently in Andulucia, Spain where the 7 day infection rate is 71 per 10,000, way lower than the UK. France too - seeing as what this thread is about. See - https://www.statista.com/statistics...ates-in-the-past-7-days-in-europe-by-country/
Unfortunately, it looks like most countries are heading back in the wrong direction, including the UK again, although some more significantly than others.

The UK state is 433 per 100K. You state 71 per 10K. That's about 80% more
Apologies. Typo in my message. Spain is 71 per 100k not 10k, so doing about 6 or 7 times better than the UK. The comparison figures for all European countries is in the link I posted.

Very selfish, you don't mind disturbing other people's sleep to suit your travel plans.
Well it happens to us and its not going to be like 3 in the morning, unfortunately we are not so perfect as your good self plus we still have to work so have no choice.

If near Arras on a Saturday the market is brilliant. One of the biggest and best in France. So they say. The two squares are very picturesque. Not sure how much Christmas content there is.
Great at Xmas and there is an Aire in the town centre less than 10 minutes walk

Have you expressed your views on the Benidorm thread?
See OP I’ve been watching with envy all the retirees going over the channel since September wishing them all well, whilst I’ve been working my arse off, well now it’s my time for a week off work and hopefully I’m going over the channel for the first time in 2 years.
So I’ve took note of your opinion, let’s leave it there.

Have a great trip, I wish I was doing the same.

Go. I felt the same after working through 2 lockdowns and a really hard start to this term. We went in October; it felt at least as safe as Scotland, much safer than England (sorry English friends, but no masks scares me… ), we travelled via the tunnel so minimum risk and enjoyed 2 weeks of sun, cycling, outdoor cafes and good food n beautiful places. It made me feel there was pleasure in life despite Covid. Enjoy and tell the tale …

Just make it up from day today I’m sure wherever you end up it will be great.

that’s what we do nowadays. Just drift and enjoy the trip.

Right you lot, hoping to get to France on Friday and looking at the news it’s squeaky bum time to see if we’ll actually be able to go or if they will shut Europe down, but hey ho nowt I can do about that.
What do I need?
Passports
NHS app with 3 QR jab codes on it
Eurotunnel Ticket

I think I need a piece of paper with a self declaration on it, testation d’ summat or other, where is the best site I can Download that from?

Do I NEED the Tous covid app on my phone or are they happy with the NHS app.

And more importantly as I’m going in the 05.20 will they have time to raid my fridge, or will they be too busy looking forward to going home?😁😁😁😁

Yes best to have the Tous Covid app & don't forget your Global Health Card.

You can download the travel form here.

Latest travel info here, new restrictions coming in on 29/11/21 Mostly regarding South Africa.

We came last night and the French border police wanted jab certificate but did not look at it only wanted to know how many doses and was surprised when we said 3😁.

Print them out so no need for tous covid app. Declaration d'honour but no one looks at them, if going to Belgium or Germany online PLF and book your 2 day LFT for return.

Now sitting on Gravelines Aire having tea, arrived 10.20 last night here and was very quiet as I didn't want to disturb anyone and break Lenny HB new law of arriving after 10 and get arrested. Beer out and put tv on to watch have I got news for you but over the TV sound I could hear an engine running, left it for 30 minutes and still running, investigating found the French neighbours had engine running for some reason so a bang on their door to ask them to turn off, some shuffling about inside and it went off so not sure what that was about but half expected it to start up at 6 today😂😂😂😂

Nice one, really annoying when they do that. I had one in Jaca it was about 10am it was making my van vibrate inside I was about to bang on his door when he turned it off. If they are going to rely on there batteries they should make sure they have enough power.

You don’t NEED the TAC app but I found it makes life easier as we live in Wales and don’t have a convenient nhs app. Plus you can keep more than one qr code in it so I had both of ours on my phone so my grumpy technophobe driver didn’t have to be bothered with it 🙄

I have my day 2 LFT test which was originally for the return on the Rotterdam ferry. I emailed the testing company and told them my plans had changed and was coming back on the eurotunnel and NOT on the pride of Rotterdam, they said no need to change anything🤷🏼‍♂️ Is that right, I thought the whole point of the test was to see how you entered the Uk and when?

No its to make sure you don't bring anything nasty back. The PLF tells Boris where you arrived back and when.

And the fridge check??!

And the fridge check??!
Not heard of anyone being checked so far, we cleared our fridge & freezer out at home so the van fridge & freezer was full.
