Yes he had military training in the Black Sea, before it all started. He moved them in there to fill the space quick. He probably expected the bosforus to close. He’s got Sevastopol to service them. It doesnt need to come out for now. They did fire from the sea around Odessa, and lost one to the Ukraine. But Odessa is not safe with all those ships there. They fired as close to Izmail, a small Ukrainian military transmissions unit. They obliterated it in one night. That’s 15km of Ro border. In the morning the Romanians received the surviving refugees over kylia Danube’s water, with pontoons. Ever since, Black Sea is hot.

Amidst the growing tensions caused by Vladimir Putin's threats to Ukraine, Russia has launched extensive naval exercises in the Black Sea. Some 30 warships of the Black Sea Fleet sortied from Sevastopol and Novorossiysk over the weekend.16 Feb 2022

Nothing like having all your eggs in one basket.

Makes for easy pickings in a sub or two.

Do they think it’s to dangerous to fly down the Moldovan border.
Sorry if I’ve missed something catching up. Moldova isn’t a NATO country, all the surveillance flights have stuck to either NATO airspace, or clear international waters.

I believe Moldova said they don’t want to join NATO at the moment, but applied to join EU - prob don’t want to pee off Vlad, make Transnistra situation worse etc

Why have I got a feeling there’s going to be a rush for NATO applications.

Do these military flights on go over NATO Countries.

I have no idea but I’ll bet youll know 👍

I thought Turkey accedded to the request not to allow russian ships through the straits by agreeing that only Black sea based ships can leave .
I believe Turkey officially recognised the Russian action in Ukraine as a “war”, which allowed them to implement the wartime provisions in the 1936 Montreux Convention.

Normally nations have to give prior notice for warships to pass the straits and Turkey approves depending on certain criteria. For example might let a UK frigate through, but may think differently about a US carrier group.

With the Montreaux “wartime” provisions in force, Turkey has said the only warships which can pass are ships returning to their pre-existing home port in the Black Sea, hence declining the recent request from Vlad.

Surprising the things you learn on a Moho forum.
Thanks for that 👍

Aussie C17 on its way home after visiting Ramstein, Germany, one hell of a flight.

Update: looks like it’s stopping off Dover Air Force Base, Delaware for a pee and snack.
Looks like the same Aussie C17 from Sunday is on its way back over the pond from Dover, Delaware. Not sure whether it stayed at Dover Air Base or went somewhere else in between.

This possibly one reason why there’s been increased anti-submarine activity in the Med recently - planned annual NATO ASW exercise started 21st Feb and has just finished

A couple of contract aggressor Skyhawks in the North Sea look like they’re playing British Bulldog with a whole load of F15s trying to stop them getting to a NATO E3 AWACS.

The Skyhawks keep popping up and then disappearing, I guess to make the F15s earn their lunch.

USAF Globemaster 3 just overflown us en route from Rota to points west at 22000ft and climbing.
The Globemasters produce a low rumble as they overfly, the Hercules a turbo prop drone.
The Globemasters make it across the Atlantic in one go, the Hercules stop at Lajes in the Azores.

I could be wrong but I'm sure someone pointed out earlier on this thread that the Galaxy is currently the biggest military aircraft. Wouldn't mind seeing a closer look at this one.

I just heard on the news all of Poland's Migs are to be handed to Ukraine. Poland and its people are doing a pheromonal job with the refugees coming out of Ukraine and I was embarrassed watching the BBC news yesterday to see an English speaking Ukrainian refugee finally find after repeated attempts the United Kingdom help team that had set up in an old building in Calais (Filmed by BBC too) which consisted of 3 staff a box of Kitkats and anouther box of chocolate bars and some bottle's of water. They would not allow filming inside the building. Then the refugee came out saying he had been told he had to go to Paris to apply for a visa. Shambolic and shameful to watch. I have read today that we are now stepping up to the plate on this issue and rightly so. Someone needs a dressing down after that display being seen world wide too.
To give this post some balance, this was reported on BBC this morning.

The government has been clear that security checks must be carried out, saying some people in Calais had already presented with false documents pretending to be Ukrainian to gain entry to the UK.

Its certainly up there with the largest for certain. However according to Google the Russians have the largest military plane.

Antonov An-124 Ruslan

The Antonov An-124 Ruslan (NATO designation Condor) is named after a legendary giant. It is broadly similar to the slightly smaller Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. Currently the An-124 is the world's largest production military aircraft. Only the one-off Antonov An-225 is bigger.

Whilst not an expert and although the Black sea is deep enough for modern subs to operate in I doubt if any are there as access and egress without detection is almost impossible. In addition, its quite a small area for a sub to safety hide in.

Some F16s joining in the fun over the North Sea. Didn’t realise there were any in the UK, they normally seem to be based out of Aviano, Italy

4 unknown US fighters in formation over the North Sea, 4 more over North Wales, B52 over the Irish sea and 4 Typhons over the North Sea - can't keep up.

Friendly Turks and no hiding required.

In and out, job done.

F16's & Typhoons up this morning too. Increased activity for sure and where have the f16's come from as not normally based here. Eight fighters in the airr at the same time.
