800 feet used to be the standard military drop.
It could probably be cut a few feet but there is absolutely no chance of a canopy opening in 150ft.
What would be used to break the fall I have no idea.

Late to the party with this but IIRC the Fallshirmjager are credited with the lowest altitude combat jumps of some 250’ during the operations in Crete during WWII - “This technique used in the German Rückfallschirm, Zwangablösung (backpack parachute, static line) rig allowed jumps at lower altitudes, limiting exposure to enemy fire and providing a tighter drop zone grouping than individually deployed rip-cord type parachutes.”

I also recall reading that the accidental injuries received even during training were horrendously high due to that technique. In order to reduce the weight burden they would jump armed only with pistols and grenades, with all other arms being dropped separately in containers.

Actually, because it's Russian there's a trap in the floor you lift then someone walks it along 😁
Can see how you got your forum name.

Do you know why it’s flagged as Kemble
Thinking more about this … the RQ-4 Global Hawks which take off and land at the US airbase Sigonella, Sicily, but mostly show as Catania, which I think is the nearest civilian airport.

Still don’t know what or why, just another interesting data point 😀

Just had a B52 go over us. Very Noisy. It took off over 9.5 hours earlier. Went over Cheltenham, then turned East and toured Europe all day, returning to UK and making landfall over Devon. Circled a few times over Cricklade before landing.

Caught this USAF tanker for a few seconds - popped up over Saudi (I think) and then disappeared again.

Approx 400ish knots at 26000 ft, which seems to be the rough speed/altitude they go when refuelling invisible planes.

My guess is pulling F15s back from US Airbase in Saudi? But for all I know, could be on its way to Timbuktu 😀

Aha that might be the 3rd Gorgon sister from earlier, wonder where that’s been 😀
I tracked it's full flight, but didn't take a screenshot. It went quite a way South East - nowhere near Ukraine, going over Greece and the Med.

RAF Voyager surely not going to Vegas Baby!?!

Is it picking up cargo, providing refuelling support for something flying back from Area 51 or a UK VIP going for a big night out?

Yup defo Vegas - Nellis Airforce Base

Interestingly, like the other flights mentioned flying from/to military bases near civilian airports, FR24 shows the destination as Las Vegas rather than Nellis, which is on the outskirts. Anyone know what that’s about ?

Here’s a very rare fly over

forgotten how to do snapshot, so if it disappears off radar, it’s a Tunisian Airforce C-130 Hercules, taken off from Sardinia and heading north over Uk probably to the States.

Italian Gulfstream G550 looks like it’s got the AWACS day shift over Romania.

Not noticed this type before. Modified business jet, carries Israeli made early warning radar (the big slabs on the side) and can ‘see’ out to a radius of ~230 miles.

4 x Ukrainian National Guard helicopters just popped up in Northern Romania and landed at Iasi, Romania. They display as plane icons, but way too low and slow

Is that a deliberate thing making it look like a chopper do you think.

I'm guessing FR software is a bit out in predicting this planes flight path.

Watching over Tiraspol side. Minutes ago I was outside cleaning the solar panels of snow, lots of rumble above me, circling sort of.
