EU driver slapped with London emissions fines totalling £25,000

I think if you're caught by a fixed camera you need your eyesight tested.

That assumes the signage is adequate or you know the road layout well. Often there is a plethora of signage and markings which is confusing or distracting, or the road markings are too worn to read especially in the dark or wet. It is easy to go through a badly signed bus gate which will get you a FPC for being in a bus lane. These are strict liability offences, that place simplicity of administration above fairness. To generate cash for Councils.

Buses and trains don't go exactly where you want to go though that's the problem and if you live anywhere like here they don't run at all.
When I was working I occasionally gave a lift home to a girl who lives close to me. It was a journey of five miles. It took me about fifteen minutes by car, it took her a change of buses and forty five minutes at best, normally an hour (each way). Even now that is £2 per journey or £4 per day, £20 per week. My fifty miles, in a car which averages 40mpg would cost, today, approximately £7.50. Even adding other associated costs or owning a car it's not a hard choice to make.
Sadly our hours didn't coincide or I would have happily given her a lift every day

Not far off the same as any other vehicle. My best friend from school has a BMW EV as a company car he went to Belgium for a weekend and said it was no real problem. I've yet to see lots of stranded EVs despite all the stories I think there's a very anti element of the press who think we all ought to continue polluting as much as possible!
No city is stopping you from polluting the air, why do you think that?

Thought it was quite easy. Hit a person at 20 mph they are more likely to survive.

Edit. Rather than a higher speed.
Using that scenario why not reduce the speed limit to 5 mph?

We are waiting for our daughter to arrive from St Alban's. The train stopped at Kelvedon as line closed for engineering. Buses to Marks Tey. But hang on a minute, the A12 in that area is under reconstruction so the bus is now stuck in diabolical traffic. What plonker can't see that this was going to be an issue.

No joined up thinking.

Edit to add. No weekend busses here and only three a day weekdays after 1.5 miles across fields. 9 miles to the railway station.

It seems there is a whole group of French drivers
& the Dtch haulage association.
That's a really good idea a fast track lane for ev,s and busses.
& discrimination & why I legally block off the lane when it ends .
If you think Southampton is bad, try Brighton. They have had an anti car council for over 40 years.
& Bath is even worse.
I think you will find that motorists kill alot more people than cyclists or scooter riders, alot more.
People have to die:You cannot honestly attempt to keep 100% of them alive. If your number is up & you are due to die nothing you do will prevent it.If the pedestrian wants to wander off the pavement & in to the road, oblivious to their surroundings, watching a phone, texting , listening to music why should i have A) the responsibilty to ensure their safety & B) keep them alive? I have no interest in whether they die or not.In fact if they are that stupid it is far better they do not breed more stupid ones.

I remeber a few years back ,just before covid , when they modified the junction of A13 to M25 whilst at the same time doing work on the A127 so causing miles of queues for anyone attempting to access the M25. You really can't make the stuff up.

That's a really good idea a fast track lane for ev,s and busses. It would do a lot to encourage ev take up without a lot of infrastructure.
Yes driving an EV on the M4 in Cardiff or Sheffiled M1 and there are signs restricting speed because of pollution does your head in. The green number plate strip should make this quite straightforward and do not understand why something has not been done already.

Why do you think we have the Darwin awards?

I remember that. Our office was in Thurrock opposite the Ibis hotel. Coming in from Suffolk I used to take the A130 off the Chelmsford bypass and come in on the A13, turning off before the Jams. No major issues but others had terrible traffic problems

Or cycle.....

I used to cycle 6 miles each way every day.
It kept me fit
It saved me thousands in train fares.

Car parking at work, (inside the £12 per day LEZ) was £25 per day then, probably considerably more now, so driving never made sense even 20 years ago.

well i guess when these 15 minute city things come into being everywhere with everything we need within that distance/time frame, we'll not need cars, mohos, bicycles even...............

.
And what a sad place the world will be, apart from the Greens of course. What will these do gooders think of to moan about then

Have you driven in London lately? Many many cameras, many many roads with access at certain times and fine at other times, box junctions where you can't see the exit as you enter but if it's blocked you get a fine.

Is there a source for that? I would be interested to find a comparison between deaths per 1,000,000 miles for each of these modes of transport.
You find me one of where a pedestrian or cyclists killed a motorist.

I pass through 19 speed cameras (yes, 19!) to drive to my father in laws home.
He lives less than 10 miles from me!

Like many of us I have an alarm on my satnav for speed cameras, it means it alerts me about every 30 to 90 seconds all the way to his house.

Last year driving across Europe, Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, I think it alerted me about five times, so roughly once per week or once per 1,000 miles. As soon as you hit the UK the alarm goes mad and pings every few minutes.

I know alot on here think they are put up to annoy the poor motorist, but it is very easy to not set them off.

I would love to know the accident rate for electric scooters. Its absolute madness. they're a danger to themselves on the road because they have zero protection and a very real danger to everyone on the pavement because they're so fast.
But they manage fine in so many other countries.

The UK has gone way too far with bubblewrap policies.

It becomes more noticeable the more time you spend in other countries where they rely on common sense and personal responsibility. Half the pavements in Europe are a hazard but I'm guessing not full of idiots looking to.put claims in

yes here the escooters are not allowed on pavements.
they are subject to the same laws as any type of vehicle even though at present they do not require a licence insurance or tax although they do in madrid & Barc & Trafico are working on a way to get them all registered, taxed & insured.

thank you.(y)You just need to remember that I am on the road along with many other like minded souls.🛻🚙🚛🚐
*Remember there are 25 million needing culling in the Uk to make the roads emptier.
That's just a sad point of view.
