Ducato engine/gearbox given up in France.

Hi chaser of course not he has ordered recon engine/ gearbox from a local supplier total cost around £2500. He feels it is a good insurance policy and can always sell it on. (cheaper then an Oyste V satt dish)
So why is the op paying £11000?
Does anyone still buy sattalite dishes?

The way prices are rising , it’s better than money in the bank 👍

It’ll be a Fiat production “Longblock”
We’re waiting for one (not a fiat🤣🤣) for this truck from Caterpillar USA

Worst thing ever when they started running Fiat engines in construction plant, use to buy and run Hitachi excavators until they had a spell of going over to Fiat/Hitachi pile of shite.
Didn’t last long as they went back to Isuzu, brilliant engines.

The original EX Range were the ones to have. Like you say, the FH’s were shite and now the dash 7 ZAXIS is too clever for its own good.

Purchased first new EX200 in 1987 and brilliant compared to the 1 year old CAT I put in px due to it kept on breaking down🙁🙁
Had a couple of dozen Hitachi and Doosan since then and they just don’t break down.
Think the last 10 years have not been as good for Hitachi on reliability so I’ve been told.

You mean good ol Finning can’t supply one? 😂😂
That’s who’s doing the work, we have Finnings for cat stuff and SMT Volvo for the Volvo stuff both very very expensive💰💰💰💰💰💰

The operators will not thank you for giving them a doosan🤣🤣🤣🤣
As for the Hitachi, the quarry next door has got one, don’t know the model but it’s around 110 tons and it’s always breaking down in the 3 years they’ve had it!

Had 4 new Doosan and more grunt than the hitachi for trenching and apart from a few starter motors were spot on.
Hitachi had 1 year wait and the Doosan were a cancelled order so 3 days😁😁

You’re right, they don’t, we’ve just said goodbye to this old girl after 25 years service, much better to drive than the 772G (incidentally the 772G was the first one in the U.K. and the most troublesome one) and has gone off to a warmer life in Egypt

A separate plant thread?
I’ll start one tomorrow if there’s a bit of interest.

My apologies to the OP too

JCB is absolutely the finest example of one man creating a world beating company, if you live round here you can't move for fantastic buildings with JCB all over them.
Maynot be as good as they are made out, but the business sense is out of this world.
Really started in a garage, making a trailer out of scrap.
He did have more behind him than is made out but even so a fantastic growth.
bit like richard bransom evidently started pennyless selling records out of a van mother a barrister and father a qc

Do any of you plant men work for ai, my son works for them, plant manager, he was a fitter at Volvo, and now has dealings with cat at Cannock, also son in law has two mixers running for ai as well.

Because he works in the trade, has full facilities to fit it. He is happy that the "refurbished" engine meets his needs and he can spend some time checking it out. He views it as an insurance against a potential failure. (And he not broken down in France)

chaser , I just sold a jcb 3cx I had for 18 years , bought it for £5000 & sold it for £4500 so it cost less than 1p a day
😁 I can top that, just sold my 8' x 5' box trailer. I paid £100 for it it 1980, and it wasn't new then.Sold it for £100. Probably could have asked a lot more, but hey how.

Still don't see the sense in this , if he is in the trade why couldn't he just get one if he needs one?

Read this thread from start to where it is.

What a learning objective for most of us.
Mixyblob good luck and keep us updated with your claim. Would be really heartening to know that they pay out.
Sadly engine or anything technical there always seems like a way out for this institution's, let's hope the garage does what it says on the tin.

Good luck and well done to all the funsters that have enlightened my knowledge of cam belts and valves and offered opinions and help..
Especially our little yodeli who I've not seen for many years now but always hope that if things go wrong for me in France it's outside her house...
