So many posts about dogs lately it seems every dog has a dog…

So who doesn’t have a dog, this is not about who likes them or not just who doesn’t have one, are we the minority…?
The question confused me. Your question is. "So who doesn’t have a dog" So do I answer
"yes" I doesn't have a dog?
Or
"no" I don't have a dog?

:p :D

That’s one handsome Dog you have and must be a real pleasure to have
Thanks, here is the other one. So much hair though. :-)

Why if they are well trained dogs?

To me a dog should be able to be off a lead, be able so socialise with other dogs, humans, and other animals with out issue, and be under control. That is what a trained dog is.
I agree, there are some traits however that can’t be trained out (and I have paid dear trying). Their prey drive is awful, particularly the Malinois, no amount of recall training has ever overcome this and never will. If a squirrel runs across a road, she will follow, it’s my responsibility to ensure that doesn’t happen so they are kept on lead unless in an enclosed field (which I pay for regularly). They also run with me and my wife daily so are very well exercised as well as regular visits to a pack walk where they socialise and play with other dogs.

Also, dogs will naturally fall out sometimes, I don’t want them hurting another dog off lead or on lead that might have a go. It’s my problem and my responsibility to advocate for them in full.
Never owned a dog, my wife is terrified of them.
The second reason they are always on lead is this, Chloe the wolf look alike is very friendly, so much so she bounds over to people to say hello. Some people are scared of them and again, it’s my responsibility to ensure they don’t scare people who are afraid of dogs.

If a dog is on lead outside, it’s normally for good reason and if your dog is off lead and under control, it shouldn’t come over unless invited is my view. If it does, then it isn’t under control.

My dog, my problem is the way I look at it.

Don’t diss us just because we have dogs!
I’ve had a cat or a dog all my life!

I was not dissing dog owners for having a dog in my post, I said "I just knew that dog owners would struggle with your question Garry", as Garry's question was "So who doesn’t have a dog" and I just knew that all the dog owners would not be able to help themselves and say that they had a dog and post a photo of their fur babies. :ROFLMAO:

This is very sensible and responsible, I wish every dog owner had the same attitude

I often think similar about parents of unruly toddlers :whistle2:

No dog. Never will have a dog. I don't understand the current trend for "humanising" mini-wolves. This only results in the dog having poor understanding of pack-order and then the owner's utter surprise when the fur-baby resorts to it's default position of territorial, pack animal. It should be mandatory to get your dog trained and keep it on a lead and muzzled when in any public places.

I prefer dogs over most people! :sneaky:

Grew up with a dog in the family and finally got my own 10 years ago. Now have 2 of our own. Yes, they are restrictive when making plans but they get us out and about and we find ourselves doing things we may not have purely so we can bring the dogs. They are part of the family. Motorhome holidays seem to suit us and the dogs well. It's only now and again we find we have to pass on something due to the dogs. Nowadays there are apps like rover that allow us to find a sitter if we need one for a few hours.

The pack order according to our dog (when we had her)

Alpha female - me, to be adored and obeyed as long as it suited Beta Female
Beta Female (enforcer) - her
Cubs - Alpha female's children to be guarded against all comers but also to be kept in their place (nb never ever ever leave a baby or child alone with a dog)
Alpha Male - to be tolerated only even if he brings gifts and is willing to play.

No dog now for about 30 years, until they died we both had cats, oh mine didn't die, she will have now, she was an old tiny ginger and she was stolen, long before chipping. Would have loved to see the look on the face of the person who took the little kitten to the vet when they found out she was about 20 🤣 was sad to lose her, she was a rescue and a mostly outdoor cat, although she could get inside when she wanted. John's was sadly killed by a dog deliberate attack the gate had been opened to allow dog into the garden. old cat, had cancer, terrible way for him to go.
Made the decision not to have any more pets till we stop travelling. We dogsit John's sons's cockerpoo and they also have a couple of cats so we don't miss out.
Nearly did a Tam Northernraider cats not dogs last trip

Had dogs, cats, horses, sheep, etc etc most of my life, now about 6 years without, we do a lot of house sitting, looking after other peoples pets and houses, really enjoy the freedom that gives, certainly now when getting older a bit, it just is a lot of hassle and effort. No kids or pets to look after is great, no planning just go

Lots of dog owners these days think it is ok to let their dogs run around off the lead and have them use our garden as a toilet and then acting surprised if I make a remark, lots of people shouldn’t have dogs just because they are not responsible owners 🤷🏻‍♂️👀

I mentioned Bella's incident with a bitey dog which she appeared to have got over however today we were walking back to the camper through a large sunken cafe/leisure etc area. No one around at all, Minky and Bella were on tethers and Tazzy was in her buggy. There were loads of cats though, lots in the area generally.

Earlier today one had been taunting Minky by sitting in the middle of some shrubs about 20ft away and just staring at her so she was ready to have a chase, she didn't though due to the tether but she had a good old bark and was excited as she really wanted to get to the cat.

Unfortunately this totally confused poor Bella who must've thought there was something amiss so was frightened due to the racked and jumped into the buggy with Tazzy (her surrogate furry mum), only just making it so panicked and had a bit of a do, not screaming but distressed, I went to calm her and the poor mite wanted a reassuring cuddle wrapping her legs round me to hold on. I hope she gets over this as it would be a real shame if she was frightened by the sound of barking dogs. 😐

Normally don't open threads that have dogs in the title BUT thought i would open this one.
I have voted.
I was surprised at the result, 63% no, i would have thought it be the other way round, especially on here.

BTW, i didn't read 114 of the other posts. And i wont look at any replies to this other than to see what the final result might be.

You would be well advised to read the other posts as there is some debate about how to vote correctly due to the way Smiffy has cobbled together the question! 😄 It means that the results of the poll are suspicious at best and downright confused at worst! 😆

Only if muzzling and training children also becomes mandatory. I find them much more annoying.. and they live longer sadly

We don’t have a dog and never will but I can understand their appeal. Hate the extendable leads especially if I’m on my bike as so many people don’t seem to know how to use them.

When I see 2 or 3 of the big hairy dogs in a PVC like ours I always think how smelly that must be on a wet day but I do have a sensitive sense of smell! I suppose you get immune to it. A bit like smokers who are convinced they don’t stink.
