what are the 7 essentials to carry please Martin..
am assuming phone and hydration are two, map 3
Thank for putting my memory to the test...the 7 essentials over the years have somewhat changed...back in the seventies we had no mobile phones and even if we did the mountain environment would cause signal loss.
Map, compass, whistle, food, water, spare clothing, torch.

Nowadays..I imagine modern technology has allowed some changes..

Eh , I was going to see a cave no exploring the antarctic
But one wrong turn you might end up there..lost for endless days...no food or water and the dogs natural instinct kicks in..they will eat you before you eat them.. survival of the fittest....sorry I know it was a short jolly to see a cave...but you never know...Michael Moseley was experienced and just walking on the coast....sad loss🤔❤️

My vans are all sheeted & fitted out the same way, there's 4 mwb & 2 lwb they all usually carry 2 of everything plus chemicals etc and with 2 people, tank of diesel & a few other bits & bobs weigh in around 3200/3300kg so leaves me roughly 200kg but I won't ever need that as they're already fully loaded (sorry for thread drift Tam but I know you like anything to do with 4 wheels) lolView attachment 983390View attachment 983391

Where's ya bed.....🤣

Yamas🍻

When I trained as an Outdoor Pursuits Instructor back in the seventies, we advised all novices to carry the Seven essentials before venturing into the hills...I imagine today those essentials have been modified to adapt to modern life...😀
Beer, wine, gin & phone, what are the other 3?🤣

My friend (mountain rescue volunteer) found a bloke part way up a mountain. Bloke had read all the advice and had a road map and a home made compass. Then wondered why he had got so lost. Luckily he hadn't gone too far off the path and my friend was able to guide him to safety and then show him what a real map and compass look like.

I have a scent hound who always finds her way home so I just follow her.

My wife used to carry loads of stuff around in her bag, until she bought me a man bag. Now i have to carry my own shit around😀. I couldn't be without it now.

I would be without a bag now - as I would have left it somewhere.

I just carry two sets of keys (house and MH) and my wallet, in my trouser pockets. I rarely take my mobile phone.

When I'm out for a walk I have wallet, keys, phone , poo bags .. that's it .

Women carry ridiculous stuff . Have you looked in ones handbag
My bag has little room for my necessities once it has john's phone, keys, spare glasses kindle and anything else he wants to take.
I sometimes struggle to find room for my spare knickers.

I really knew someone would...I left myself wide open..
However your response is not new...when we did assessments the clever kids would do the same.. it went like this..
Fags, matches, beer. durex, phone money, comic and gum..
At least they were wise enough to contemplate protected sex...😀

Don't count on it ,the durex were to contain and swallow their drugs should they need saved by police 🤣

No, the durex made an emergency waterproof over dressing for damaged digits.

I have a mini-tool set in my handbag (ex posh Christmas cracker) and many a chap has been grateful for a loan. Also a small tape measure and tiny torch plus personal alarm fastened so if bag is snatched the alarm goes off.

I also carry spare specs, meds for us both, medical emergency supplies and multi-language assistance cards.

When the kids were small(er) I also had a complete change of clothes for each of them. If you ever meet my kids you will wonder why I didn't carry two complete changes for each!!!
what size is your handbag ;)
