Now this isn't a dog hate post but just a question, if the morrocans don't like these dogs and they are a nuisance to everyone and they are suffering why don't they just round them up and shoot them?
They do!

Yes it is because in the market you're supposed to negotiate for everything but I find it too much hassle for food stuff.

Fruit veg and spices are far better bought from supermarkets.

I saw tagines cheap In the supermarkets but none had the metal band or plate underneath them and they're more prone to cracking.

I paid 40dh for my tagine but it has the plate and band on it.

Also the markets can spot a tourist a mile of and inflate prices accordingly lol.

Fresh pasta , lentils ,couscous etc again all cheaper in the supermarkets.

I'm stocking up on my spices but planning to visit the morrocan version of IKEA tomorrow to get some jars/tubs for my spices .

They do!

There are no words for the scum doing this .

And anyone who supports football should be up in arms about it too.

I wonder how that works. They say that the Moroccans are "breaking their own laws".

But the King is in direct control of the judiciary and the armed forces. So presumably if he says it must happen that makes it the law.

The King of morroco is terrified of putting off tourists , he's also responsible for it becoming more modern and western. So he most likely gave the order but will deny it publicly.

Ice cream anyone? Lol

3 million dogs is quite a large number isn't it? Both to have walking the streets and to attempt to kill.

It is very cultural of course. We think of dogs as companion animals.

So we don't much worry about animals we kill to eat. In the UK that is about 2.8 million cattle a year, 10 million pigs, 14 million sheep, 15 million turkeys and a billion chickens.

But we worry a great deal about dogs that are in a sense given almost-human status in our moral universe. And to a lesser extent about cats.

I expect they have a somewhat different calculus in Morocco.

3 million is just an estimate... I'd say it was probably double that . There's litters of pups born every day.

63 million in India.

I hope that’s not true about them killing dogs, if so I won’t ever go to that absolute Sh1thole.
It's true . The do a cull every year usually under the guise of rabies control. They were shooting them just as I was leaving the last time. And they're a lousy shot so most times the dogs are injured rather than killed.

There's nothing humane about their methods.

Loving the 21st century Lawrence of Arabia look. Especially the sandals. When I reached 60, Clare bought me these socks to save me the bother of buying sandals.

As I've got older I've actually become more picky about where I will go.

So my list of exclusions is pretty long. Theocracy? Discrimination against women? Banned alcohol? Punish gays? Lop body parts off for breaking the law? Not sufficiently democratic? Not safe enough? Dirty? Corrupt? Infrastructure below my personal dodginess threshold?

Morocco wasn't really on the cards for me anyway.

There are the places I will visit. For everything else there is the internet.

I'll leave the attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion to other people. :giggle:

The term I'm increasingly hearing is "humanising pets".

We noticed a distinct lack of dogs in Istanbul, I read that turkey was carrying out a neutering program, seems a better way to do it.

If you were there since March 2024 it's because they rounded up a lot and killed them

I came to have paintwork done and avoid shengen.

If it hadn't been for feckin brexshit I'd never have been in Morocco the first time lol. This will very likely be my last visit as for me personally the cons surpass the pros for visiting.

Not getting into any arguments especially with the better informed but I saw plenty of tagged strays (but not packs, just ones & twos) when I was on a Turkey tour in October.
From what I saw, they seemed to be well tolerated.

Will they be rounding up unruly football followers, and shooting them? Last time I went to the footy the 'fans' built a bonfire of scarves, jumpers and set fire to them, when the firemen went in to extinguish the fire the 'fans' kicked the crap out of them. Goodison Park in the early 70s, not been to footy since.

Was invited to a cup match in the 90s, didn't go but the 'fans' invaded the pitch and snapped the goalposts.

Sharpened pennies, razor blades in potatoes thrown at other team supporters, very odd sport.
