Then I stopped in tamraght for lunch and fuel and cash .

Had a wee walk to see the surfers , couldn't stay there though as loads of very noisy barky strays , a German woman had half a dozen of them sleeping outside her vw ...and everytime someone went past they went mental. Good for her but not so good for everyone else lol

And then I headed inland a bit to fill up my water from a public spring ... slow flow so it took a good 20 minutes but fresh and free . Stopped in a little village where the whole street was a market and I bought another jelaba as I left my fancy posh one from 2 years ago in Scotland in storage. I wanted one a little more like the locals wear and not so easy to get dirty etc .. my haggling paid off and I paid just 200dh this time round 😉😁

Will be handy for inland when it's always a lot colder.

I then parked up overnight at a little bathing spot used by the locals , when I arrived yesterday it was packed with people bathing and picknicing but they left after dark and it was the quietest peaceful night I've had in morroco so far

First thing this morning we were visited by a pack of 10/12 dogs ....they all looked in good health and after they'd had a good sniff around and scent marked everywhere my dogs had been they wandered off together .

After breakfast I headed in to agadir and parked on a quiet roadside parking so I could walk down to the souk for a look around .

I was on a mission to get some spearmint for months tea so got a couple of sprays for 10dh ....probably tourist price but no matter .

And then I got a replacement pair of leather flip flops to replace the ones I lost in Greece. Had to do some serious haggling as agadir is full of tourists so they start the price high .. I paid 100dh last time so I had a price around that in mind.

He started at a ridiculous 430dh lol so I just said no and went to walk off ...then I got the OK OK your last price my friend. I started at 100dh thinking he'd say no at let me go but he then said 230dh ...I again said no I paid 100dh last time and of course I got the these ones are better quality etc etc ...they might be a little for all I know...they are a bit more padded and better made so maybe .

Anyway again he asked last price so I said last price for me 120dh ....he tried 180 , 160. 150 and even 140 lol so I then offered 110 and I got them for 120dh 🤣🤣

I'd have preferred dark brown but meh ....

Obviously I won't be wearing them with socks.

I also nearly bought another couple of sheepskins for my seats but he started at 25 euro 250dh and after asking my price which I said 100dh to he looked like I'd spat in his eye and said no.

I paid 100dh each for good sheepskins here last time in fez so I'm happy to wait. They've a big tannery up there so it's a better place to buy them.

Ivevo agadir is closed on Sundays it opens at 2.30am Monday till 6.30am then 8.30am till 12.30pm. And the same everyday lol . So if they do the job it's going to be very difficult I think unless they do it first thing in the morning. But I will see if I can get the part first of all .

I do like the jelaba, nice and snug. I need it now please.

I do wish I wasn’t such a nervous Nelly around dogs. I’m much better than I was but I’d be on edge all the time. You’re right, they can smell the fear. Fortunately I’ve not passed it on to my children. I always emphasized that I was the silly one and they were very happy to believe it :giggle:

One has to wonder how she behaved for the dogs to attack. It seems very strange. I've been among packs of 10 -20 strays in Morocco sometimes with my own dogs and never had any make any attempt to attack me , the odd ones will bark etc but considering the sheer amount of strays throughout Morocco...there are literally several million stray dogs . These instances are incredibly rare

Definitely pretty rare I agree. But they are of course territorial pack animals and there have been similar instances in other countries.

Statistics are thin, but where they are well-documented - eg for postal workers in the UK - the risk wouldn't seem negligible. More than 2,000 a year are bitten, 40 a week.

Where dogs are less well-socialised (than in the UK) I think it's a pretty common occurrence for dogs to do harm to people they regard as trespassers.

I avoided being bitten on a walk in Portugal a few years ago only by being pretty aggro back and having a walking stick with me. And fortunately in that case there was only one small ankle-biter provocateur and one large enforcer.

And, also in Portugal, I had to come to the rescue of a woman with a pram who was being terrorised in the street by two dogs.

I always carry a stick. And I'm not really conspicuously small or timid. And I try to avoid dog packs.

Cheers mate… Cintia likes the sandals so that’s going to cost me….😏
Interesting to think about prices and the 'froth' that one could remove by haggling.

They have annual medieval fairs in different historic towns and castles in the south of Portugal. As there's a history of occupation the colonialists, with their muezzin calls and akbars and wares, are invited back.

So many Moroccan wares, including the sandals, are on sale. Expect to pay, in most cases, about €10 - €15 for a pair.

I was bitten on the calf by a dog near the Barnard Castle camp site some years ago. The walk into town was a public footpath through a farmyard. Two dogs chained up on the way through . . . two dogs not chained up on the way back. A bit scary and I still have the scar and ripped trousers 😳 Could have been nasty if I’d been a child . . .

Loving the photos Tam Northernraider jeleba is a bit dull but practical thought it was going to be a jedi as I scrolled down 🤣
am with Carol re venting don't hold back we do care.
Have had peppermint tea, not a fan, but spearmint sounds intriguing is it like drinlking toothpaste?

A french woman was attacked on one of the northern campsites a few years ago, also fatal.

The reason the dogs are wary of the Morrocans is they tend to throw stones at them if they feel threatened. Its generally a good idea to carry a stone in your pocket if you're out walking, you've only got to show it and they generally retreat.

I now have peppermint and spearmint, the spearmint is much sweeter

It's a kind of test of canine intelligence, isn't it?

If you have a stone and make as if to throw it you can keep more dogs at a greater distance; if you have a stick they know they can come closer and if there are enough of them to encircle you you're more likely to get bitten in the buttocks :giggle:

Now this isn't a dog hate post but just a question, if the morrocans don't like these dogs and they are a nuisance to everyone and they are suffering why don't they just round them up and shoot them?

Aye the 3rd party insurance for the van on morroco.

1 month €97
3 months €200

I wanted 2 months .. they don't do 2 months conveniently.

And it's worthless really . Gives me no protection whatsoever.

Didn't bother getting it for the scooter as it was the same price.

My scooter is in far better condition than any of the ones I've seen here lol and most of the ones here have no numer plates.

I've not used it in morroco yet anyway. I might use it in Tafraoute as I'll be there a while.

WHat a rip-off. I pay €850 a year for fully comprehensive which covers all of Europe, incl. Balkans and several Non-EU countries including Morocco.

Has anyone got experience of presenting a Certificate for such cover and were there any problems.?

Maybe Aristotle* has part of the answer:

"That which is common to the greatest number gets the least amount of care. Men pay most attention to what is their own: they care less for what is common."

* It has long been a problem in Greece too

Because they'd have to employ people and buy bullets.

And animal rights activists would drag them through shit.

It would also drastically effect tourism.

The recent euthanisation of dogs in Turkey over the last year has caused an uproar there .

They're not a nuisance to everyone either.

I prefer the dogs to most of the people.
