Do women drive motorhomes that often, if not why not?

In the Rules of Motorhoming there are Boy Jobs and Girl Jobs.
Girl Jobs include: All driving, deciding where we’re going (but not navigating), selecting music, having the first shower (thus making sure there’s enough hot water and not having to clean the shower) and keeper of the TV remote.
Boy Jobs include: Navigating, emptying the dunny and grey tank, filling the fresh water tank, barbecuing (and cleaning after use), getting the sun loungers and picnic table out of the garage, somalier, washing dishes, cleaning the exterior of the Motorhome, filling with fuel, checking the oil, all mechanical checks and maintenance, all paperwork, ferry bookings, etc, etc, etc.
Boys jobs and girls jobs, what about this poor kid? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...baby-childs-grandparents.html#reader-comments

I do drive our MHs/campers but my take on why my hubby does most of the driving (both MH and car) is ... "why have a dog and bark yourself?" ?

Never really thought about it. It's whichever one of us is closest to the keys initially. I took it for granted that my missus would drive our van and so took it for granted that her name also went on the insurance, it's the same with the cars and she's just as happy throwing a narrow boat around too. I enjoy driving and equally enjoy being the co pilot. Heather's the same (I think!?!?) although she does struggle to reach down for the hand brake and can never release it after my gorilla hand has yanked on it.

It's sexist nowadays to recognise men and women are different ?

P-C Drivel!. (tin hat on waiting for incoming). Men and women are different they have differing priorities, on almost very subject. It`s not that either are better or worse in any field of endeavour, they just approach it from different viewpoints.

As for driving the Motorhome, Before she reached 70 and lost her C-1 SWMBO, would drive the Motorhome but not the R-V. And towed our Caravan, and did it a lot when I was in the M-N, taking the boys away weekend rallying and stuff, she was good at reversing it too. In America she actually drove our 32ft Winnebago "A" class too, not often but very competantly and on the "Wrong" side of the road, as well as hitching up our "toad" more than once, but all that went south with increasing mobility issues.

I've seen and met lots of female motorhome and camper drivers....quite a few were solo.

Most of them said they were once married to sexist eedjits

Nope, my hubby wasn't a sexist idiot - but he did do most of the driving 'cos he couldn't read a map or navigate so it was easier if I did that.

Since he died I haven't had much option but to do all the driving myself. I know many ladies who drive their motorhomes and campers - many are solos like me but quite a few of them have partners who prefer not to drive.

People are different! The only reason that there are similar trends in interests/abilities of men or women are because of traditional gender roles/gender bias. Once people stop relying on these old fashioned notions it will no longer be suprising to some people that women drive motorhomes and more and more women will feel it's the norm to do so.

I have shared a cab with Lady Truckers!. And their competency is beyond reproach. But it is hard to have the same "conversation" as with a male co-driver!, it`s a different approach to the same ends.

'er indoors drives ours all of the time. I swear she's a frustrated HGV driver. I think its great, I can enjoy a good old session in the pub of an evening and not worry about driving the next morning.

Sorry its been shown not to be the case quite a few of the differences are not down to nurture but nature .
This has particularly been noticed in the Scandinavian countries .

I have found women who are really incompetent drivers .

I have also found the same with men :)

Links to peer reviewed studies? It's very difficult to study though as almost impossible to do these kind of experiments from birth and in a controller environment. Nuture influences can be extremely subtle and start from birth in how girls and boys are treated differently. People don't even realise they are doing it but the way people treat boy vs girl children can affect how their brains eg motor skills develope.

If that is the case, Why does the natural world including humanoids, have differing "sexes"?. surely it would have been more "economic" to have one "sex". Capable of providing both roles?.

Edit;- Mind it wouldn't have been as much fun. :D (y)

Snails? Seeing as we like to take our homes away with us are we all snails?

Just back from 6 weeks in the South of France.
We share the driving 1-2 hours each on the motorway and 1hour each on the other roads. Yvonne thinks it's vital that she drives just in case anything happened meaning that I could not drive.
This works for us as it means that we are not so tired at the end of the day.

Just had a thought tho - I do all the planning, booking, navigation, picnic providing etc so hubby does say he just gets in the van and just drives (which he does enjoy) so a fair share really. It’s quite funny as if anyone every asks him how long are you here for or where are you going next, he always says haven’t a clue ask Dawn!:D2

I drive our moho the majority of the time. Kenny is by far the better navigator, so myself driving and Kenny navigating makes perfect sense.

I have yet to drive ours because i is bit of a scaredy cat and i dont want to hurt it as then i cant use it and that would be bad but i am psyching myself up to have a go!

Just go for it, have someone beside you that’s driven it, if your are a tad concerned try it out at a quiet industrial estate and just remember to use your mirrors, you’ll be surprised how easy it is.

She drives all the time , she loves it, but still won’t believe me when I tell her she’ll get through, round or in a certain space. Although she prefers it to our Ford Focus.
I drive large plant machinery and the lorries in our yard so am used to the big stuff.
Makes me laugh when you get a small car following a larger vehicle through a tightish spot and they slow down.

Come on ladies get behind the wheel and enjoy - I do 99% of the driving - husband navigates and shouts at the SatNav and tells me to ignore her ?
Used to do all the towing for 30 years in the caravan days now 7.5m motorhome + bikes on back
Love it ?

Try it on motorway or main roads first see how you get on with the size etc before taking it in to towns etc

I had am ex partner that woukd happily drive the vw caravelle towing a 23 ft caravan in the motorways etc which gave me a break then we swapped back before having to manouver etc

I drive our van and am happy to do so when I can get my bum in the driving seat, mind you my navigating is better than his (especially in France), and it isn't me that has crunched the van because they thought they could reverse without a "wingman"

I drive mine all the time - the dog’s legs aren’t long enough to reach the pedals ?
One of the problems of ladies driving lots of different vehicles is ‘ their legs aren’t long enough. I have driven lots from motorbikes to 40 tonne trucks in my working life. I have also bodged all sorts of blocks so that my diddy legs and size 3 feet would reach the pedals without me having to be jammed tight up to the steering wheel.
