Do women drive motorhomes that often, if not why not?

SWMBO can't drive (or navigate) and despite how much she tells me nor can I we still get there somehow with me as chauffeur.

I’m (Pauline) exactly the same as Ann. I only drive Michael anywhere in the car when he’s had a few too many drinks. I wish I had the confidence some women have to drive their motorhome.
Take it out on your own! No audience...or ask a fellow lady driver to accompany you. I love driving our motorhome, especially on my own!!

I have had my van for a year now.... I have never driven it!!:blusher: Its ridiculous I know, as in the past I have driven Lutons, armoured Sprinters, all sorts of things ... I would like to find somewhere quiet where I can drive around just to get used to the controls. I really must do it as Barry won't drive abroad, whereas I have driven on the 'wrong side' having lived in France for a while, years ago. I keep telling him its easy but he doesn't believe me!

I used to drive the vans and pick up trucks for Steve when he was short staffed, but he WON'T let me near our Frankie 🤷‍♀️

My wife and I share the driving on alternate days and I have to say she is a better driver than me.
Especially on the roads in Ireland where we are at the moment, which are lumpy bumpy and bendy, that’s the roads not my wife😀 I am better at navigating but I’m sure I get sent down some very challenging roads when I’m driving.

Blocks on the pedals work but there must be an issue with the seat I'm just over 5 foot no problems. Is it a swivel seat they may be higher but it should still adjust 🤔
They are swivel seats although no reason they should be given there’s a wardrobe behind the passenger and a shower behind the driver. Trust me, we can’t get the seat adjusted to suit so it’s also safe to drive 🤓

Swivel seats are higher I believe you may get pedel extensions if your not happy to whack a block on then . Its a ashame your not comfortable :(

My wife is a good driver but has now sense of direction and is scared of the size of of 8 mt van,but I bet she could drive it if she had to
she said if something happens to me abroad she said she would get a flight home and give the motorhome to first person to give her a decent price for it.😱

Mrs DDJC is happy enough to drive the bus with trailer (7.15 + 2.8m), but as she drives every day half way round the M25, I tend to do about 2/3 of the driving. She is a good copilot and navigator and keeps me alert.

When she drives, I might doze off, if I know its a long stretch. She remonstrates mildly, but I point out "It's because I feel totally safe with your driving, me luv" So far, that line has worked, but she often reads this forum, so I might have to stay awake a bit more.

When we were tugging, her licence wasn't enough to to pull the van, so she went and got a '+E' test. Passed easily, but found it stressful so is not happy about taking the C1 so that we can up-plate the bus (we run heavy) to 3850. Happy to pull the van with a trailer instead!! I dunno.

To anyone who has done the C1 test recently, do they still include all that stuff about securing loads and other lorry-type stuff? Why isn't there a moho only test?

My first wife used to share the driving of the motorhome but SWMBO tells me she cannot comfortably do so as she is short. As a result I pay the extra to be the sole driver of the motorhome.
We are insured to drive each others cars, though I have only driven hers once and she has never driven mine.
Personally I think confidence may be an issue too, as she never drives any distance.

Sounds like a good reason to sit back and enjoy the scenery 😉 go girl (y)

For safety reasons it always makes sense for both partners to be able to drive their MH, even if one or the other of them prefers to do so. Then, if you HAVE to drive it, you'll have some basic experience at least. That way, for example, you won't have to drive your massive MH back to the UK from the south of France having never driven it even a mile before, as the wife of a pro surfer had to when he was suddenly taken seriously ill while they were away...

As a kid, both my parents drove, and shared the driving on all long trips, then over the years Mum had multiple large and small campers/motorhomes as well as her PSV licence for driving buses/coaches. She also learned to fly after winning a scholarship when I was four.
I guess, as I never grew up thinking it was unusual for women to drive anything, it didn't occur to me that I should defer to any handy chap to do the driving! 😉 Since I've suffered badly all my life from motion sickness, I'd rather do the driving on that basis alone! My current van isn't much bigger than some modern cars/suvs, but I've driven larger coach built motorhomes both in the UK and in New Zealand on tour.
