But you said it should be everyone including say medical students that do national service so it wouldn't be training on the job for a lot of them .

These food banks are a fantastic idea for folks in need , another good idea is the fresh eggs and honesty box at the end of the farm road , really don't know about this story though I've seen it on media sites where it's headlines are "rich motorhome owners stealing from food bank " if it is true it's a disgrace ,but why not take the reg of the van or a picture ??, what you don't hear about are the motorhome folk who are heading home stop off at a food bank and give them what they haven't used in the van, and I know some who do this when heading home .

Unfortunately that attitude seems to have inculcated our teachers, which is why we are getting the spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax mistakes that we so often see everywhere.

"Our teachers" grade work mainly on what was meant, even if spelling etc is not perfect which is lucky really as an ability to spell correctly every time or use grammar perfectly isn't essential in most jobs. Students do gain some marks for SPaG but can still achieve good grades with being "perfect".

I agree although having just graduated from Northumbria university the assignments were around 20% for grammar, punctuation so had to be right.

Not paying for meals that you have booked and your group leader has paid for out of his own pocket isn't limited to the young. A lady friend books and pays for WI social meals for OAPs at pubs and restaurants and then collects the cost from each member at the venue. Frequently she ends up being out of pocket because absentees won't pay up ob the grounds that they didn't have a meal. The "Me me" culture is spreading!

No, I said exactly the opposite:

If you aspired to be a brain surgeon, then the logical place for you to do your year of National Service would be in the medical sector somewhere.

The idea is not new, the Germans and Norwegians have been doing it for decades, and it works.
Just for them it does not have the 'full citizen' strings attached that I would add, so as to make National Service almost compulsory for all. I would also not have any maximum age limitations, just because you are 80 years old is not a get out clause.

I know it doesn't help with comprehension but there are many reasons why some folk struggle with it but blaming them or their teachers for their "poor education" rarely helps.

"I putted sodum chlorate on hour fizz n' cips" is reasonably understandable despite containing a non-existant declension of a verb, an incorrect spelling of a chemical element, a wrong homonym, more wrong spellings and a potentially unacceptable conjunction.

However, the thing which I would want to teach as being incorrect is "chlorate" because sodium chlorate is a weedkiller: it should be sodium chloride (common salt).

It is important to chose your battles carefully, especially when you are trying to get people to change by telling them that they are wrong.
