Disgusting behaviour on NC500

In our village it’s the local phone booth that’s been converted to a food station. Lots of lovely stuff the villagers put in. So far it’s not been robbed. We even have a free library 📚 along the same style but a lovely purpose built shed library. 👍👍🥃
Can we see a picture of your library . I've been tasked to build one and any inspirations much appreciated!

Cheers James

Surprising how few [any?] UFO photos there are these days - considering all the camera phones out there

Wouldn’t work , the mod don’t want them the country don’t want them , conscription don’t work . The training staff of mod have better things to do
Why?

We often hear if ex service personnel on the street.

These guys should be held onto and tasked with training up the younger generation. Taught basic army skills, a trade and to learn to drive.

Win win they are appreciated and respected and the younger generation upskilled...

Agreed, ask Putin why he is losing the war, conscripts 😈

Not wishing to be a party-pooper but “our” community LARDER is stocked with short-dated food and everyone is invited to use it rather than see it go to waste. Personally I have never been to it but my daughters have both brought me scones which otherwise would have gone to landfill.

Food BANKS are totally different and require authorisation before recipients can access their offerings.

Gordon
Not all food banks require authorisation, sadly. The one in Mum's town said they wouldn't turn anyone in need away, and have unfortunately been taken advantage of - to the detriment of those in real need - ever since. Just one example being a chap who is known to routinely take bagfuls of 'food bank' food into the local pub, where he then spends his money on drink all afternoon...

We were overnighting in Scotland 2 weeks ago, right at the top, Durness Bay, it was a least 4 cars throughout the evening that pulled into the large layby and the occupants all got out to use the area as a toilet, up the hill, behind rocks ect.

If the area becomes a mess I know who will get the blame for it,certainly not the cars with no toilets on board.

Paul, did you get some video and the car numbers?

I have always been in favour of "National Service" for all citizens.

Until you have completed it you can't vote, set up a company, become a director, buy a house or land plus a number of other 'responsible' positions.
It would also apply to anyone from outside the UK applying in later life for full time residence in the UK &/or a UK passport
You would be treated as a child/second class citizen until completed.

It would be for all mentally or physically able people, aimed at the late teens to early 20's, but would include everyone even into their 80's.
(Just because you may be old and in a wheelchair would not exempt you, although obviously allowances would be made)
It would only involve holding a gun for a tiny minority except in times of war.
It would probably be in uniform and by default it would be far away from your local area.
It would be working for the government, for at least a year, possibly indirectly.

You could be a teaching assistant, a trainee nurse, a bin collector, a digger of ditches, or running a food bank or a childrens nursery or perhaps in forestry or even filling the spaces caused by the current block on non-UK workers picking vegetables or teaching English as a foreign language, possibly not even in the UK.
You might even be an apprentice in a manufacturing company or helping out a sheep farmer in Snowdonia or even a full time carer for a relative.

Essentially it would become part of your education, if you like the idea of becoming a brain surgeon, then a year working in a hospital in a junior position before you go off to study for 7 years at university may give you good grounding (or realise you wanted to be an airline pilot instead), or if you wanted to be a plumber, then working in the maintenance department of a a large institution may give you the idea that an electrician would be a better option.

My take on this

Looks like another non story by a 💩 stirrer with no physical evidence.

Also there are people living in vans and old motorhomes who are effectively homeless and with very low incomes.

Not everyone who owns a van is rich. So even if theres a slight chance someone in a van/motorhome did take some food from a larder ... who's to say it wasnt someone down on their luck.
Not all vanlifers choose to live in vans and not all are wealthy.

Tired of these type of stories with zero evidence provided and tired of folk believing and spreading everything they hear without any proof.

No Geoff we never thought to. Maybe we should have though?
Wouldn't have done any good as i don't think doing the toilet outside is illegal.

Car drivers have been doing this forever and motorhomes will get blamed because it suits the agenda.

Same with the takeaway rubbish and the coffee cups etc. Common sense tells you it isnt folk in campers with bins and cooking facilities but it doesn't suit the agenda to blame cars.

The proof of course is in the places where campers have now been stopped from going by height barriers etc whether the rubbish dumping is still a problem. But its doubtful there will ever be any articles saying that .

I listened to my Dad saying bring back National Service....... often laughed and wondered why......... blimey I'm now in the same boat.
My dad and all my uncles did national service.

One of my uncles was a safecracker in the 60's 🤣🤣

You seriously think NS is the answer🤣🤣🤣

Honestly why does the older generation think the old days were the good old days? ...they really weren't.

Another “incident” with no photo evidence in a world where nearly everyone carries a phone with a camera .
I witnessed someone emptying their toilet cassette into the Marine Lake at Southport but was so gobsmacked I didn’t think to take a photo. I even had my phone in my hand at the time as I was geocaching.

Sounds like you were Mao Zedong in a former life 😈

I live in the Highlands. The claim with no evidence was made by a local author. The people who run the store say that they have no knowledge of this happening & the food usage is the same as expected for this time of year. They point out that anyone in need even visiting the Assynt area may take food if they need it. They also point out that campervan drivers often donate food.

Believe it or not I have some friends who do not have Smart Phones and one that doesn't have a phone at all!

Unfortunately that attitude seems to have inculcated our teachers, which is why we are getting the spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax mistakes that we so often see everywhere.

Just what would be the cost of a scheme like that? We're supposed to be aiming for a high skilled high wage economy I think we ought to be concentrating on that not a 1950's rosy eyed reminiscence on national service.

An arm and a leg.

But you would get it back in the long term as these people would be working for a fixed amount per hour and actually training on the job, so in effect they would be apprentices in their own chosen field.

Variations of this scheme have been working for decades in Germany and Norway.
(But I'll admit they don't come with the no vote until you have done it rule)
