Data bundles at the moment?

I have a Vodafone sim only 20gb upped to 60gb on an offer in a mifi. Worked well in Germany this month and just about at the 60gb limit now but it renews on the 26th or 27th anyway.
Has streamed tv, netflix and amazon with only minor glitching.

Just had an email to say my phone contract is expiring. Currently on 3 unlimited but throttles at 20gb abroad @ £20 month. Debating what to go for now as I quite like unlimited data in the UK as can stream without any consideration for limiting what we download.

3 offer is as above for rolling 1 month @ £23, 12 months at £22, or 24 months @ £22 but reduced to £11 for 1st 6 months.

If you want to remain on the 3 network, Smarty (owned by 3) will give you 30Gb per month for £10, 50Gb for £15 or unlimited for £20, all on monthly rolling contracts. But all are limited to only 20Gb in Europe. If you follow the link I gave you will get a free month and so will I if you take up the deal.

Yes, i have done. My thoughts were to use an alternative network for my phone and mifi unit to give better chances of coverage in more areas.

I see iD are offering unlimited on a 30 day rolling for £20 or smaller data bundles for less, that may be useful for those who don't want the same data volume as it also carries over unused data to the following month, or I can stay with 3 on a month to month until something special comes on offer.

Update on the Superdrug mobile sim, unlimited data for 20pm. Just back from a trip round France and Spain, in total about 6 weeks, and 3 billing periods, we thoroughly hammered the data using streaming services (iPlayer, All4, Prime etc...), video calls, laptop system updates and even using BBC sounds whilst travelling used well over 150Gb for the trip. We received regular txt msgs welcoming us to each country and advising of our renewal each time. So although Superdrug uses the 3 network, there was no 19 or 20gb cutoff and no throttling of speed.

On the whole, the auto network selection worked a treat but on a couple of sites the signal was not strong (2 bars) so we tried manually changing network finding a better signal (4/5bars) with a different provider, even used Vodafone ES on occasion.

Now we are back and do not need the sim have disabled auto renew, although it will run through to the 22nd November, but costs nothing after that till we are ready to get away again.

Our only gripe with this sim is that the 3 network in the UK is not the greatest, shame we cannot roam in the UK.

Do you still have to give 30 day's notice that you're not renewing it?

Nope, it's a 30 day contract, so login to account and turn off auto renew, can still use the sim PAYG.

My bundle will run out on the 22nd, I turned it off today so I will not be charged again. I only turned the auto renew on in September just before we left, prior to then it had been a manual renew which I had forgot to do previously and had to buy a bundle in the van on the way to Wales as the Sounds app would not work, 15 minutes after purchase online we had data and the Sounds worked.

On the 2nd December if the world changes for the better and we can travel freely then I can just buy a new bundle starting on the day I buy it, if not a long tour then I might just buy a cheaper 10gb bundle or probably not :giggle:

+1 for Supdrug Mobile unlimited. Used it for about 10 weeks from August in France, Italy & Germany and put well over 200Gb on it with no problems of capping. Back in the UK for the latest lockdown so will be giving the unlimited UK data a hammering for a while.

I'm new to data Sims and bundles having just dumped my land-based Wi-Fi I've just taken new Vodafone £20 ( less introduction discounts )pcm 12 month 100gb SIM only deal to work in my TP-Link m3750 which is supposed to give full 100GB data use abroad in EU. Not sure if this will still be honoured after brexit next year!
My question is to all, can you authorise a UK based SIM card whilst abroad?
I've heard some problems doing this unless it's authorised in the UK before entering the EU.

Seems too good to be true regarding unlimited data abroad and speed as mentioned in T&Cs.! Can you set them up and authorise them if purchased in the UK whilst abroad?

Sorry, we setup prior to journey back. I did try to setup an EE sim whilst abroad and was told not possible, but this was a few years ago.

Agree about it being good and seemingly too good, but it works. The doubts arise I think because the T&Cs say nothing about it, the do not mention limits, usage, data caps, time abroad, the only info comes from various chats with customer service who state it is unlimited.

I tried a Three 30 day contract unlimited data sim (20 gb roaming) on our recent trip although it worked it was a right pain.
Didn't automatically log on when changing countries or even areas in the same country. When logged onto it's prefered partner it was really slow so had to change networks. If you turned the MiFi off it would lose the network. When you are moving every day or two the amount of time wasted having to keep resetting it, you don't get these problems with EE & Vodafone.
I won't be using Three again.

I'm looking for a SIM only deal to use up to 3 months at a time in France & Spain, considering:
• 150 GB data from 02,
• unlimited from Tesco which is also O2, and
• unlimited from Vodafone.

What I don't really understand are the roaming restrictions. There's mention on here that unlimited deals are anything but unlimited when roaming. Am I likely t get more data in europe from the 150GB deal than the 'unlimited' deals?

I acknowledge that Brexit may change things but I would welcome informed advice on my quandry.

You have to look very carefully at the t&c's it's often well hidden. Vodafone unlimited sim's limit you to 25gb when roaming most other suppliers it's 20gb unless you can do a deal with them.

I guess that's my problem, the t&cs seem designed to be vague and difficult to navigate. I've tried but don't know what I haven't read, and thought there might be a rule of thumb, for example deals that offer a specific amount of data are available in full when roaming. I guess its not that simple.

Try Superdrug mobile Unlimited - we hammered it for a few months in Europe with no data caps. £20/month with no contract

Check out the current offerings from Broken Link Removed and www.fonehouse.co.uk to see if anything suits, we got a good Vodafone sim deal from them paying £8 a month (after cashback) for a 24 month Vodafone contract, 100gb data and unlimited calls/texts.

They aren't 'like for like' comparisons on monthly costs though as Fonehouse shows the price BEFORE cashback has been deducted but the mobiles one shows it AFTER.

I nearly got caught out on mobiles.co. uk. I was about to sign up for the unlimited data sim at £14.50/month then noticed in the microscopic symbols at the bottom it was only 2mb/s download, which would have been totally useless. The full speed one is £23.50, that's the same as I'm paying for super fast broadband (up to 70mb/s) & line rental.

Three appears to be the best deal at the moment £16/month on 12 month contract or £17 on a 24 month contract with a £100 Amazon gift card.
Three works ok here but its a pain in the butt when roaming.
Not sure about keeping the landline now, I can return the router as I got it from Amazon.

Don't buy 'unlimited' it's unlimited only in the UK. Go for the specified 150gig but ask (if possible) for confirmation. I bought the Vodafone 5x data £30 a month PAYG, just renew every month. Been away since 31st October Spain, and Portugal, Netflix every night! no hiccup's.

(OP) In the end I went for the Smarty deal £10 pm for 30 gig for my phone, (rolling, which I didn't really want), as I had already bought a 24gb for my mifi, which I used on the 2 occasions I went to France this year in the van. This has now put me on the 3 network for both, so am thinking of buying a similar data sim from another supplier when it runs out. Mind, I could also try using the phone for data first. But I have to say over the years I have been very happy with 3, don't seem to have had the problems that Lenny HB had (#102).

How do you go about unlocking a 3 mifi anyway?

I have never had any issues with three abroad, now get 4G in most places, it used to be limited to 3G.
You need to change the apn in the settings though.

A named amount of data with O2 you can use it all abroad but only for 63 days.
I am about to try the Superdrug unlimited sim as online chat says I can use abroad without restriction.
Will post back when I have tried it.

Well activated my Superdrug sim in the UK on the 20 of Nov and started to use it in Spain on the 23rd.
During the last month used 53GB of data so would seem to be unlimited.
Strangely data usage abroad is not recorded on my account.
I am in Spain now until March will post again if anything changes.

Was that in a phone or mifi? Want to install in my mifi
