Data bundles at the moment?

Only problem is being on Three data gets throttled abroad.
At the moment the Superdrug sim in my Mifi with a Poynting rooftop aerial is giving me 7mb/s sitting in the van with my phone which has an EE sim and is connected to the same network gives me 32mb/s.
I've check speeds at home using my EE sim, in the Mifi I get over 40mb/s compared to 20mb/s in the phone.
If I get a chance I'll try swapping the sims.

Surly download speed is determined by network connection and not sim location ? It will be interesting to see if the phone itself has a throttling effect on a sim card.

I normally buy the Three 24gb data bundle (for mifi) when it's on offer, which I don't need when I'm at home. But now we're touring soon, and of course it's not on offer. Has anyone seen any good deals right now? (Don't want a contract due to my intermittent usage).
Hi have a look on Amazon for my 3 sim cards 24gb that that you can use over 2 years. Around £40

Have a look at Smarty. They run on the 3 network. Pick a bundle(I think I got 30gb for £10 per month) . Cancel when you dont need it any more.

I had smarty for a time, cancelled this week, the reception was pathetic !!

Both sims connected to same network the Mifi has an external aerial also the vans inner wall is aluminium so phone signal is normally not as good as outside.
So the Mifi should well out perform the phone but with the Superdrug/Three sim speed is only a ¼ of the phone.

Any particular areas? We’ve not had problems with our Smarty sim reception in our MiFi…….Somerset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Devon, Cornwall, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, France.

Had a bit of a technical issue when we first got to France, but that was sorted by a call to Motorhome Wifi. (y)

£20 per month (unlimited data) but you can turn the auto renew off & on on their website
Also get £20 of Superdrug points when you take out the contract which makes the first month free.
Similar to Smarty. Just credit £10 for 30gb data over 30 days when you want it……but limited to 12gb Data when roaming.

We are with EE so decided on an EE data sim for the router. Our current deal gives us 120/122 gb on our two phones for £20 each, so we went for the £8/4gb data only sim which turned out to be only £6.40 for some reason.
We can now gift data to the router sim as and when necessary.

Couldn't you have got a PAYG EE sim and still gifted data?

Apparently not, there’s a £1 payg sim but you can’t gift data to a non contract sim. It’s got to be part of your plan, that’s why we have both our phones under one name/plan.

Works brilliant abroad of course as it will just use whatever network is nearby and strongest. Downside it they limit you to 12gb a month in Europe.

Picked up a superdrug card today its in mifi and working OK.
Now....if buy and I put a vpn on my phone can I watch itv .BBC. etc on phone or some other way?

As you have an British sim you do not need a VPN to enjoy streaming UK tv, iPlayer etc. when on your travels abroad.
You will have a UK ip address this is what iPlayer sees so thinks you are in the UK.
When you first arrive abroad you may need to alter the apn in the mifi. Look these up before you go so you can update them if required.

Now that mainland Europe appears to be opening up again was thinking about roaming charges and wondering what strategies people are following.
We have 3 Sky accounts which cost us £21 pcm which rolls over an extra 5Gb+ a month so 60Gb+per year and I also have the Mobiles Vodafone offer running out in June of 100Gb at £16pcm less £5.25 a month.
We can use up to 80/90Gb when abroad.
I am of a mind to keep the Vodafone contract at £16pcm holding onto my 100Gb roaming.
Any other thoughts?

This has more or less been done to death on here countless times with many members surprised how restricted there current data arrangement is when roaming in Europe. I think the best deal you can get from the big boys is 25B a month in the E.U.. Superdrug, however do an unlimited data package for £20.0 that works in Europe for some members. The T&C say data usage will be monitored in the E.U. and you may be notified that your exceeding your allowance. (Some customers have had no such warnings and are streaming without any issues). Best of luck which ever way you go.

I was told by Sky that they do not restrict data whilst roaming wherever you are 🤔😊

Virgin mobile and O2 also have no restrictions on usage but check for time you are allowed to roam. O2 allows 63 days.
