Costco membership - worth it?

I think Costco are elitist looked up their membership criteria and my profession isn’t good enough for them. A very annoying as there’s one about two miles away!!!
If you know a member you can go on their card for about £18

Hi been a costco member forever they now take credit cards and agree with above post you can often buy things that you think you can't live without but don't really need also I would used to go in and buy things knowing that it was a guarantee that they were cheaper than anywhere else this is no longer the case now I check all their prices against others diesel is premium though.

I don't recall having my employment checked - but it might have changed I suppose
I've been a trade member for more than 20 years, I had to take in a vat registration document and a cheque book.

They have quite a strict list of individual membership requirements, emergency services, solicitors accountants etc, they do ask for proof, because I've been in there when somebody was signing up

Too many members now though, if I hadn't got a trade membership so I can go in an hour before the rest I doubt I'd go much, especially at this time of year, they're open until 8:30pm, if you go late it's normally quieter

Early it's like this

I went in today and picked up the cards we had to show ID and info on Mrs. Ex's employment with the council, although they barely looked at it. I thought we were careful about what we put in the trolley got to the till and £176 😱 it's all stuff we will use but because of the large pack sizes it soon adds up. The diesel is 19p a litre less than Sainsbury's the bad news is I filled up on Friday 😢

Well, me and the mrs went and got our cards yesterday and had a look round, very restrained and didn't actually buy anything (y)

well done we bought a" few things" when we got to the checkout the bill was £172  we did buy things we will use and at good prices but they come in bulk, we have enough washing tabs for at least 6 months the same with toilet rolls. I joined for the fuel which is 19p a litre under to lowest price anywhere else locally, and for us Costco is about a mile away.

Just don’t use the toilet rolls in the MH cassette, they are too good and strong 🤣 I keep them for home and buy cheapest thinnest possible for can

I've never given it a thought, we just use the same as at home, never had a problem

Me neither, but I joined at stall at the Great Yorkshire show, basically I explained that I wanted to join but as far as I was aware I didn't meet any criteria, he managed to find a way for me to join 👍

We went yesterday, popped into M&S enroute and took a few pictures of stuff we wanted for Christmas food, Costco meat and cheese platter is slightly cheaper but I prefer the Costco one, coilers cheese is £6.69 kilo, same as a strong M&S West Country, but again, I prefer coilers cheese, got Christmas nuts as they were much cheaper, sweet baby Ray's bbq sauce is £3 at asda, 2 for £4.66 at Costco, managed to spend £150 in store and topped up at the petrol station too 👍

That’s one of the best ‘excuses’ for a Costco shop, ever- I’ll use that one next time and hide the other things I don’t need under that cheese!!
It’s a great place to shop- amazing customer service is worth the membership alone!!

I've bought 2 TVs that have failed while under their 5 year warranty, it's probably a good job they're not covered on mileage as one of them was on 24/7 for months in my mother in laws care home, the other developed a line down the screen on dark scenes

Both refunded without question, you then go and buy another and the 5 year warranty begins again

10 years ago I bought 2 lazy boy sofas, they were about 2 years old when one of the recliner handles snapped

They have a 10 year lazy boy warranty so I rang to see who comes out to fix it

Bring it back for a refund, er, that'll leave me with an odd sofa, bring that back too

Full refund

I was talking to the manger, he said their refund policy is the best in the business, they had a woman who bought a 1.5 litre bottle of wine back with about glass full left in the bottle, she said it gave her a headache 😂

They gave her a refund

I grind my own beans (painful) for the espresso machine and find the membership cost worth it just for the bags of Columbian coffee beans. Also electrical goods, tvs etc. - no quibble returns if necessary. If you're not a label snob, their own brand jeans for about 12 quid are far more comfortable than Levis, which they also sell. The only problem occurs when I go to buy a few bags of coffee beans and because I take my wife with me, they end up costing me about 200 quid.

Oh dont even go there...partners son bought a tv from there, mainly for gaming.
He started to see small numbers in the top corner 🤷‍♂️ yep we all said the same thing...stop drinking 🤣
After being shown the numbers at stupid'o'clock we agreed and he contacted costco who said, repeatedly...'do one' .......he contacted the manufacturer who immediately (and I mean they stopped the conversation) asked for the numbers over the phone and really wanted to know where they bought it. They asked for a picture of the costco receipt and 2 days later a new tv arrived and the old one was took away no questions asked 🤷‍♂️
An internet search tells us it's a refurbed tv not for retail purchase, manufacturer fault or costco ...no idea but costco just didnt want to know ☹

I've bought returned TVs before, never had a problem with them, the 2 times I have the service has been fine

Did they go through the concierge?

Yep, at first they said you didnt buy it from us then wouldnt take it back in store 🤷‍♂️
Manufacturer wanted it back immediately, delivered new one and took old unboxed one away
Partners son has used costco for years as have we but the 'you didnt buy it from us' attitude from the beginning was a bit weird

Everything you've ever bought is on their system, I found some taps in the attic, no recollection of ever buying them but there was a Costco label on the box so I rang them up to ask if I could return them.

Customer services weren't sure but said bring them next time you're in and I'll ask the manager, so I did

She was gone for about 15 minutes then came back with the manager who was laughing

The returns policy is good, but not 12 years good, they'd found the purchase date

That's why if Costco sell it that's where I buy it, I don't care if it's cheaper somewhere else, I know I can return things without a receipt, not 12 years though

Another Costco tale, I bought some varifocal glasses there , everyone said they take getting used to, they'll make you feel sick

No problem whatsoever from day 1

A few years later I bought some on the high Street, because free sunglasses, put them on, couldn't see out of them, like looking through a goldfish bowl.

They retested my eyes and ordered another pair which were the same then the optician asked to see my glasses

Ah right, these are essilor lenses, we can get them but they're expensive, can't remember the numbers now but it was more than the £250 Costco charged me for them

Went back to Costco, ordered a pair, no problems from day 1

They only sell the best brands which is why you don't see ching yip tyres or alba TVs in there

Their Kirkland brand is also top quality, I'm an executive member, the 2% bonus covers the membership fee.

One thing that felt a bit weird though, all the shops are set out the same, on holiday in florida 15 years ago it was just like walking into the Manchester shop, your Costco card is valid worldwide

We were members years ago then let it go, we had bought a vacuum cleaner which went wrong, I returned it but as a non-member I was not allowed a replacement they gave me a refund. I found it cheaper at Comet but with only one year guarantee.

They never replace, always refund

Just back from Costco with my haul. There are certain things that I really like, petrol was 137p a litre, and yes a queue but it moved really quickly as it is just pay at pump.
Most of the things I get dried fruits and nuts, are treats to make last until next visit. A tub of coconut macarons with a belgian chocolate base £3.89, a big tub of organic mejool dates £8, Giadelli brownie mix and Belgian thins. Of course toilet rolls and tissues

Just had my online order delivered yesterday three days after ordering it, although the case of wine was delivered the day after placing the order. Great service. Saves us a trip of 40+ miles each way.

BossLady renewed membership yesterday but back to white card from the black that she had taken out when she bought some V expensive earrings. The bonus on them has paid for the next years membership.
Bought fuel today at £164.9 3/4 of a tank.
Nearest fuel to there was £178.9 so saving money already.

Visited Costco yesterday, They were selling a Fender Acoustic guitar FA 125 £139.99

Amazon, same thing £102.50

Gear for Music £89.00
