Costco membership - worth it?

ours nearest is 20 miles away
as our nearest shop is well over an hour away
I asked Google how many in England and it came up with the above
they do not appear to favour the East of the country, nearest is about 55miles away in Leicester
Haha my nearest is over 200 miles, over 5 hours' drive, and doesn't have fuel (but it does do tyres!). The nearest one that does is over 250 miles, 5.5 hours.

You wouldn't want someone not happy doing it on jacks being forced to though!
Very true! Tho apparently the staff were happy enough to do it, they said the manager wouldn't let them. Of course we only have their word for that...

Anyway, was just making the point that just because some warehouses will fit tyres to larger MHs, you can't rely on all of them doing it.

Excellent, but as already said you do need to do some homework before buying expensive non food items

Stupid question, how do you become a member, and what's the cost involved?

Its worth it for the fuel savings. But be prepared to queue for fuel in a lot of locations a lot of the time.

Last night on the way back from Bury to Stockport with our Family, I suggested we pop in for fuel at Oldham.

Usually queue for 15 mins. But a van driver had broken down at the slip road traffic lights. So it was 30 mins.

Regular E10 Petrol was 142.9p / l E5 Premium Unleaded 148.9p / l Premium Diesel (no standard) 163.9 / l

Our local Shell is 151.9 Regular Unleaded, 171.9 Regular Diesel. Local ASDA, Tesco & Morrisons are 8-10p a litre more.

My Car requires High Octane Fuel and my Sprinter Van runs better on the posh Diesel after a couple of tanks.

I used to buy a lot from Costco. But its too expensive these days. The meats are good, but cheaper elsewhere and they do not reduce sell by foods.

We used to be members when we used to visit Orpington often but gave it up when we stopped going there, then they open one here but didn't get round to rejoining but we have now for the fuel

10p a litre saving, is that really a saving? all depends on the price of fuel at that store, we were members from when they first opened, it was and still is great for small companies, like for cleaning products & cakes etc which we would do a shop once a month, as some have said, meat is always good deals, oh and of course the drinks for parties, but Electrics seemed always cost more, always could get them cheaper else where, to be truthful, for home use have always been disappointed.

It’s really not that kind of shopping, l know that sounds odd but when you go with the intension of looking for a bargain and a probable budget of say £100 you will spend £400 in a breath if indeed you have it.There are so many items that you all of a sudden need.
No Credit Cards though, Debit or Cash only.
Credit cards have been accepted in Costco for at least a year!!

Here the saving is about 15p a litre, the car takes 60 litres so £9 per fill after 4 fills I'm in profit

They have been accepting CC's for years.

They will Not fit to A Class Motorhomes
Bristol did a couple on mine. I think it depends on the lifts they have and the headroom in the bay. I would add that they do a really good job as well and fill with nitrogen.

The 'hot buy' at Costco this season is their Gourmia Air Fryer. Often out of stock but it does appear back every couple of weeks, you need to be quick to secure one.

We were members but the warehouses are well out of our usual trip routes so didn't bother with the renewal.

18 months / 13000 miles at about 25mpg (5.55 m/l) so that's about 2343 litres @ say 10p a litre cheaper is £234.30p
Now, to be fair I don't live close enough to ONLY use costco for fuel, but even if i use it say a quarter of the time thats £58.75

Even better

Not sure if this has been mentioned but they usually only sell premium fuels and mostly at less than the price of standard at supermarkets, etc.

Ah, in that case ill likely not bother :-/ I tend to use credit cards a lot and then pay them off before the interest.

Electrical goods come with a, no quibble, 5 year warranty as standard.

A friend of mine drives 50 miles each way to his store and gets a lot of electricals. (Microwave, deep fat fryer, freezer etc.) But he inevitably has to go back and return them as they often turn out faulty. We went in with him for some bulk meat deals ... which turned out to be truly awful and tasteless. Toilet rolls were ok though ...

So far as I’m aware, they sell all the mainstream brands; what’s your friend doing to them that results in their failure or is he just an extraordinarily unlucky guy?

They are renowned (positively) for their meat products. 🤷‍♂️

Hi Folks, Like others, we have found it not cheaper, but different. Many of the products are really good but you end up with a big bill very quickly. We have just renewed as we can cover the cost if we fill up 15 times over the year. We drive past every time we go to visit family and as we are looking after an aged parent, we are going every week. The cakes and pastries are great!

Thanks, but you need to read the earlier posts.
(y)
That can be written on lots of MHF threads.
Not really "our" thing this reading subsequent posts to check for previous answers
I should have "TWIS" as my signature :(

I dont live near a costco anymore but keep my membership because it saves me a fortune in my prescription glasses

Completely agree!

Someone just mentioned costco on another thread which reminded me about the fact that a costco member can get fuel at some of their warehouses eg currently some are 10p per litre cheaper than the cheapest near me. So, i'd save a tenner per fill up and only need 3 to effectively negate the years membership.

OK, no costco right near me but like lpg stations theres plenty en route to destinations.

However, is it actually any good for anything else at all? any members here that would recommend etc?
Costco has nitrogen for tyres at the Reading branch

I think Costco are elitist looked up their membership criteria and my profession isn’t good enough for them. A very annoying as there’s one about two miles away!!!

We also top up with fuel when we pass Leicester or Sheffield in the van though the queues were 20 mins long the last two visits.
That's the biggest problem now, people queuing for petrol, Haydock & Trafford Park are both on dead ends, the queue for fuel was almost to the road, then you see people put £30 in after driving there and sitting in the queue for 20 minutes

It's cheaper but not 50p a litre cheaper, though you'd think it was

What is your profession?
I don't think they check
