Costco membership - worth it?

For those that like their steaks, beef etc. they get a lot from a company called Grid Iron Meat, they have their own website to order from. They are in Yorkshire. Not cheap, but lovely.
costco’s return policy on electrical items etc. is second to none, never any arguments. We returned a Gaggia coffee machine after 2.5yrs without any quibbles…..been members now for +20yrs mostly shop online now as our nearest shop is well over an hour away.
for those that visit the south west in your van, don’t forget the Avonmouth, Bristol, Costco Petrol Station, just off the M5 before you go over the bridge.

Oh dear god, pass the mind bleach
Why? I must admit after a few pairs I've given up on the Primark jeans ( the studs tend to come slightly loose and catch under your fingernails....ouch!) but the Aldi whisky ( Islay malt and there's not a bad distillery on Islay) is pretty good.
I think a lot of shops play on people's bias were just trying Aldi ordinary Christmas pud Vs their specially selected. We only tried the ordinary as there was a TV program testing different ones and it came out really well in the taste tests. We would normally just have bought the specially selected one I think we've got a bit of middle class bias. It's a bit like Sainsbury's saying some of their stuff is price matched to Aldi but we actually find some Aldi stuff is better quality.

Personally I wouldn’t bother joining as there are only 29 Costco shops in UK.
I asked Google how many in England and it came up with the above, shouldn’t think all of them would have fuel stations as well!

I think it depends if you're near one but if you are it's likely you're in a city where there will probably be somewhere else with pretty competitive petrol too. When we lived in Leicester I thought about trying Costco but talking to a friend that shops there I decided it probably wasn't for us we're unlikely to buy in bulk and quite likely to see things we didn't go in for and decide we need them!
The last time I bought tyres I bought online and for the Michelin cross climates I wanted the first time a local tyre depot who I originally got a quote from were on the net £50 cheaper! The second time Halfords were the cheapest.

I see there is a few options for membership, which is the best option to get for just 2 people

If we had one nearer would probably rejoin as used to have membership.

An added bonus should you ever find yourselves in the USA your UK card will be accepted there also.

Get the cheapest, if the 2 of you want to go at the same time, you only need one card. Any member can take a friend and they can pay separately for their own stuff at the till.
We pay for and extra card on daughter’s membership and some friends of ours join on that too and pay for a card that way. It gives us Trade membership which allows earlier entry in the day.

Do they fit them ?

Yes

I'm thinking of changing all my tyres in a few months, whats the price of the Michelin tyres at Costco?

Check their website.

They will Not fit to A Class Motorhomes

They fitted them to my tag axle no problem in their Derby branch.

Do they say why?

They fitted them to my tag axle no problem in their Derby branch.

i think that with double insulated floor ..... the chassis is above the floor....

Dont know about that but They fitted them to my tag axle no problem in their Derby branch.

We had 4 tyres fitted to our A class Hymer at the Thurrock branch. Every couple of months they have a tyre offer. Saved us about £80. Plus they also fill them with Nitrogen.

We too had no problems getting them fitted to ours.

Michelin camper tyres tend to be very cheap
The Camper tyres weren't showing when i looked. Had the Criss Climates fitted instead which where £25 per tyre cheaper than anywhere else i could find. We also top up with fuel when we pass Leicester or Sheffield in the van though the queues were 20 mins long the last two visits.

my comment was to the whisky, I've not worn jeans for about 10 years now from anywhere.

No they don't all have fuel stations but having checked the map of where they do, there's plenty in main routes I regularly use so I've joined for the year and see how it goes, a bit like I joined the CAMC to see if i would join a second year ( I have)

Individual membership - when registering it asked if I wanted a second card for free so the wife will get one too.

Someone just mentioned costco on another thread which reminded me about the fact that a costco member can get fuel at some of their warehouses eg currently some are 10p per litre cheaper than the cheapest near me. So, i'd save a tenner per fill up and only need 3 to effectively negate the years membership.

OK, no costco right near me but like lpg stations theres plenty en route to destinations.

However, is it actually any good for anything else at all? any members here that would recommend etc?
Great place for impulse shoppers . We have one of the larger stores a mile from me. Apart from the fuel price and the cafe, I never know what will end up in my trolly. They change stock regularly so always something nice to tempt the shoppers.

All sounds good. However, they do not appear to favour the East of the country, nearest is about 55miles away in Leicester

Geoff

Far too expensive!
I only go in for bottled san Pellegrino and end up with 2 bottles of whisky (Glenlivet at around £20), Provence rose and a chunk of conte.
Not to mention the odd Honda generator, Levi jeans, parma ham, tonic water etc etc

It's worth joining just to watch all the men attracted to the catnip TV's at the entrance.

They occasionally check I am spending enough to qualify for the black card, then raise eyebrows and say "fine"!

Asda Tyres are cheaper at the moment as well as e tyres

Been members since they opened a store in Richmond, BC in 1988. Currently members in both Mexico and the US. We've never had a year in which we have not paid for our membership in savings many times over.

It’s really not that kind of shopping, l know that sounds odd but when you go with the intension of looking for a bargain and a probable budget of say £100 you will spend £400 in a breath if indeed you have it.There are so many items that you all of a sudden need.
No Credit Cards though, Debit or Cash only.
It's been about 8 months since they started to accept all major credit cards

Nearly decided not to renew for next year as household size has changed - kids have both left home. So bulk shopping is not as frequent as previous.
Had forgotten about fuel so will renew but not the "Black" card from this year just plain "White"

Some stores will, some won't.....from what I understand its about the size of their bays/lifts and whether the store manager will let them fit on jacks outside.

We needed new tyres for the Rapido earlier this year.....the Farnborough branch would sell us the tyres but not fit them because the MH was too big for their tyre bay. We queried it because the Reading branch had previously fit tyres to our Bailey (which wasn't that much smaller) and were told its up to each store manager to decide. Called the Reading branch and they were more than happy to sell and fit them for us on jacks in the car park.

You wouldn't want someone not happy doing it on jacks being forced to though!
