Caravan and Motorhome Club price hikes.

We will soon be at £50 per night ,then members will stop going and the committee will fail to understand why.

Currently parked up at NO COST with EHU, on our drive, cannot afford the price hike in diesel, saving up for our epic 3 monther in the west country later in the year.
Seriously though it is a shame how the community get's hit hard with hikes as soon as a ripple is spotted on the horizon, especially when fuel and power is paid for months in advance but the public get the price hike on the very day of any announcement. So with fuel and site cost's escalating how much does it cost to actually enjoy our way of life.
As said in this thread the only way to make our voice's really heard is to possibly vote with your feet, but that could produce a negative effect and sites could close, leaving less choice for all?
We all love the freedom, and indeed paying a fair CLUB price for it, that is why we are members, but if its not effective through a club Leave it and let the clubs deal with the fallout?
But when it comes to taking out a mortgage to park and hook up NO, done away with them some time ago, do not want to go back to subsidising greedy money grabbers, it just spoils the niceness of why we all do what we do.

It seems it, but if the poster is prepared to pay that so be it.

We are going to stay three nights at a CCC THS at York.. . £45.

It does seem lot of money but the cheapest alternative if you want to be in the centre of Bristol is £150 for a night at a Travelodge so I suppose in that sense it is a bargain. It is a nice CE place in an excellent location and won't be here for long.

O.K. Have just done a bit of research.
Electricity cost on average £0.18.2 pence per kWh.
the average caravan will use between 4 and 6kWh per day, and most will use less, even with a worst case price hike the high user will use less than £1.50 per day. CMC I believe charge £2.50 per day for electric. How can they justify a price hike?
it really is time for a clear out at the top

No, the INCREASE was £2.50 per day.

Actually, the increase varies from site to site depending on the cost of the site so that suggests it's not based on the electric price alone

Unfortunately you’ll find that electricity costs are likely to be in the order of £0.30 kWhr now. Unless you are still on a fixed tariff contract. One of my manufacturing customers in the south is paying £0.28 now and they are a big user.

I have been surprised by the price increases with CAMC sites, some a really expensive and compared to others within a short distance that are at the usual prices for example the New Forest sites. All have similar facilities so the logic is odd. Camp sites not CL or CS.

Why would anyone in their right mind wish to be in a city centre, especially a vehicle hating place like Bristol?

Foreign plated vehicles. (y)
(y) :giggler: That'll be me then. :giggle:
Access to the campsite is a simple 10-15 minute drive from the end of the motorway. It's a lovely. peaceful site (in City centre terms) on the edge of the docks. Loads to see and do. Eaterys, pubs, history, museums, statues :)LOL:) churches, cathedrals, parks, historics docks, ships and boats, a suspension bridge over a big gorge, etc etc - all within walking distance of the campsite.

I'm begining to regret my original post - this is probably the best value for money campsite in the UK!!!!!!

Bristol is a fantastic city. (Having being born here and lived here until I was 18 I might be a little biased.) Having said that - it is so much nicer than it was in the 70's!

If you need to go into the centre of Bristol I guess you have no choice. Come the late summer it's only going to get more expensive to travel into Bristol City centre with certain vehicle's when the emissions charges kick in. My Hymer is in the £100.00 a day category! 😳
As a guide, charges will not apply to:
  • Euro 4, 5 and 6 petrol vehicles, roughly 2006 upwards
  • Euro 6 diesel vehicles, roughly end of 2015 onwards
  • fully electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles
  • modified or retrofitted vehicles registered with the Energy Saving Trust’s Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme (CVRAS)
  • motorbikes

As I lovingly pat my Euro 6 diesel motorhome.

I'm not sure where your figures come from, but your rate per kw/h sounds highly optimistic. It's also illegal to charge more than the 'pass through' rate for electricity.

I have left the club. Shame as there are good sites and some good staff but prices are silly for a single traveller!
this!! so many people complaining or suggesting I should use less power on site.. yet as a single traveller Im already paying for the usage of TWO people anyway as most site fees include 2 adults.. plus at some sites an additional £3.50 per dog x 2 for exactly WHAT in return?

Really gets my back up paying £7 per night extra when theres also one less adult. Are the dogs or invisible spouse using the electricity, showers, washing machines, playground or other facilities? Or do I pay that fee so someone else picks up their poop for me and walks them?
Ive stopped declaring I have dogs now, or at best just say I have one. Another rip off for nothing in return because they CAN. Theft.

We stayed on a private site about ten years ago in the winter when we had a RV, we had to pay for electric for what we used. Then it was costing us just under £5 a day.we Did some research and you can’t be charged more for your electric than they pay for it. (y)

CAMC do not charge for dogs.

I'm not sure whether you intended to quote me but I never mentioned kw/h rates. I just said they are increasing prices (from between 70p and £2.50 according to their email - the Bristol site is £2.50 increase) to cover increases in electricity. Of course CAMC do not charge specifically for electric so it does not need to relate directly to the cost of the electricity

Shush, it spoils them having a good moan and everything is a rip off. Haha
They also charge per adult, so if there is only one of you that's all you pay for.

Sorry, it was Claire Ambler I should have quoted.

Can not understand why something that is no good for you that you would do it then moan about it. It’s not like it’s compulsory. Still give you something to moan about.

Average B&B in say Chester is around £85, and rather than your own, your sleeping in someone else's dirt. If B&Bs were ¼ of the price of a pitch, I'd still stay in my van.
I don't understand why you think you'd be sleeping in someone else's dirt Jim?

We are off to Bristol at the weekend. I was already thinking it was a rip off at £45 per night for 2 people. Only going because its where I grew up and the site is shutting soon.

Just received an email to say they are increasing prices due to electricity costs. not only that - they are asking us not to use the electricity as much as possible!!! (please use your solar instead!)

Back to CL sites in future.
Seems it cost's more to cut the grass.

Seconded for Bristol. We enjoy city breaks anyway, but Baltic Wharf is/was (its due to close, it's on prime land) a favourite. There is a back gate which exits straight onto the wharf, with interesting boats, property, pubs and walks right there on the doorstep. SS Great Britain was a fascinating visit. Did a tour of the M Shed museum back rooms, saw the statue of Edward Colston lying on its back, enjoyed talking to locals about living with and dealing with Bristol's history of direct involvement with the slave trade. We really enjoyed Clifton village, plus Bristol is a university town, which means young people, which means vibrancy in my experience.
The site is right on the edge of town so the countryside is accessible anyway.
Very sad that Baltic Wharf is closing, I'd happily pay £45 or so for two people and ehu, because quite simply, any alternative costs more and anything that would be much better than staying in our new moho would cost a lot more. 🙂

Also, I'm struggling to understand complaints about price rises. We've had 2 years of pandemic which must have been horrible for many businesses, we've had Brexit which has meant labour shortages and unbelievable difficulties in importing/exporting, and now we have war in Europe and we've had to learn how much Ukraine and Russia exported to the West and beyond.
The comfortable years we enjoyed have gone. Time to make the most of what we have, or stay home. 🙂

I'm just hoping that this isn't the shape of things to come. Last summer we went to an independent site in Pembrokeshire and enjoyed the experience. We were thinking of going back for a couple of days again this summer but nearly choked on the new pricing structure.
In peak season and holidays, they are now charging £22.50 per person per night, £5 EHU per person per night and £3 per dog per night and a minimum of three nights, so that would be for two persons plus 1 dog 6 x £22.50, 6 x £5 and 3 x £3
That's £174 for 3 nights without diesel to get there. :Eeek: Last year we paid £67.00 for two nights in peak season
The pitches are on grass/sloping, the facilities were nothing special. They have a courtyard for sitting eating their over priced coffee and cakes. OK we had a nice view and a beach about 500 metres away, yes it's cheaper out of peak season and without a 3 night minimum.
No we won't be going back :whistle2:

Regards visiting Bristol, stay at say the Cheltenham race course site or maybe one of the private sites. Then catch a train into Bristol for the day, last year a off peak day return was less than £15.
I know trains are not for everyone .
